New 5 part drama

Will it beat Pauline behind the curtain 😂😂😂

Joanna moves to the quiet town of Flinstead with her young son, Alfie – a fresh start in a place that promises peace.

But beneath its quiet surface lies something more sinister.

When she discovers a chilling rumour about a convicted child killer hiding in plain sight, Joanna seizes the chance to bond with the local mums by sharing it – unknowingly unleashing a wave of paranoia and suspicion.

As whispers grow louder and tensions rise, Joanna is swept into a dangerous spiral of secrets and blame.

With trust eroding and fear spreading like wildfire, she begins to question not only the town’s past but her own instincts. Who can she trust?

And what will it cost her to find the truth?

The story is based on the Sunday Times bestselling book by Lesley Kara,

The cast of The Rumour includes Rachel Shenton (All Creatures Great and Small, For Her Sins, The Strangers Part 1 & Part 2) who stars as Joanna – a mother desperate to outrun her past and protect her future. Also joining the cast is Joanne Whalley (Willow, Wolf Hall, Scandal), Emily Atack (Rivals), Samuel Anderson (Doctor Who, Amandaland), Ellie Haddington (Enola Holmes, Motherland), Lucy Speed (Unforgotten, Afterlife), Liza Sadovy (A Real Pain, Patience, A Small Light) and Carryl Thomas (Emmerdale, Silo, Silent Witness, Eastenders). Rounding out the ensemble cast are Tamzin Griffin, Alex Waldmann and Okezie Morro.

On wed Thur Fri and then not till next week

Joanna is a pain in the fucking arse

LIZS · 17/09/2025 21:44

Why would anyone give her their background story knowing how she spreads gossip? Surely they would just tell her to f off and keep her nose out.

xSideshowAuntSallyXx · 17/09/2025 21:56

How are they going to drag this out for a 5th episode?

itsgettingweird · 17/09/2025 21:58

I was just thinking the same.

especially as most of us had worked it out by the 3rd one anyway 😂🤷‍♀️

moto748e · 17/09/2025 22:21

There's a murder and an attempted murder to sort out.

purpleme12 · 17/09/2025 22:54

That was really good

itsgettingweird · 18/09/2025 07:05

I liked the fire and Lucy twist.

it was the best episode so far imo.

xSideshowAuntSallyXx · 18/09/2025 07:25

They weren't going to get Joanne Whalley in to play a bit part so it was kind of obvious that she was more than just the supporting mum. Although she was wasted up until last night.

autienotnaughty · 18/09/2025 10:29

It’s very different to the book, I don’t remember a murder in the book and I think it just ended after the big reveal. I’m enjoying it though.

butterpuffed · 18/09/2025 13:59

Joanna has named four people as being Sally McGowan. She wouldn't make a good detective!

onceuponatimeinneverland · 18/09/2025 14:06

Someone remind me who Seth is!

purpleme12 · 18/09/2025 14:07

onceuponatimeinneverland · 18/09/2025 14:06

Someone remind me who Seth is!

I think he's her half brother (ie they've both got the same dad)

moto748e · 18/09/2025 14:08

The guy who video-called her, showing her the picture.

LondonElle · 18/09/2025 14:11

The cctv I found unrealistic as well as them spending a grand on a picture to see the signature! They didn’t seem particularly loaded!

Blondeshavemorefun · 18/09/2025 15:01

Finally seen last nights so avoided thread till now

so Sally is her mum

Did the fire kill her dad

Doesn't look like there was a fire.

Did the fire kill her dad

Edited

No he went off to Canada(?) and had another family (Seth). Although it is not clear what prompted it.

purpleme12 · 18/09/2025 15:31

Her mum said that her dad found out she was Sally McGowan
So that'll be why he left

LonelyMom123 · 18/09/2025 16:33

Debbie's husband is dodgy, I think he was the one who planted the seed about Sally to Joanna in the first episode.

Yes. And he's the one who is having affairs (or trying to have affairs) left, right and centre too. What a creep!

But didn't the online article say Sally had just moved there ie recently?

Blondeshavemorefun · 18/09/2025 17:10

moto748e · 18/09/2025 15:07

Doesn't look like there was a fire.

Now I’m totally confused
so the flashbacks aren’t real with a fire

and Seth is younger then her so she must know dad was alive after

so the dad left after finding out she was Sally and Joanna was a kid. So then moved and got name changed

so why on earth would her mum go back to the local area

no one would do that

No she said they aren’t real memories and no wonder she couldn’t remember the fire because it didn’t actually happen.

Her dad found out who her mum was and so left, her mum got their identities changed again.

What I find odd is that Lucy/Jo was left with her murderer mum.

Blondeshavemorefun · 18/09/2025 20:49

Confused

this is why I like recaps and can’t find a rumour one
