No spoilers but this documentary is out there as one of the most disturbing I have seen in a long time, the manipulation, the death threats, the abhorrent sexual messages. Has anyone else seen this? Worth a watch I think.

  • UPDATE: We've edited the title, as requested, to reflect that there may now be spoilers on this thread

I had already seen spoilers for this so knew who the perpetrator was however I was open mouth shocked at the way it was completely minimised, especially when the cop first confronted the person at home, how the other people there didn’t start shouting and screaming at the person I do not know! And totally agree about the sexual nature of the messages. Absolutely disgusting that this seemed to be completely overlooked. Lauryn did appear to me to have some learning difficulties.

I know it’s off topic but the vocal fry of these kids is grating. Especially Adrianna the cousin. Really really irritating

Lauryn I think perhaps knew & sworn to secrecy? Abused?

I just can not fathom how a mother could do that to her own child. A s a mum we are supposed to protect them from this sort of thing.

Exactly & to think we all have days we think we’re terrible Mums over incredibly minor stuff.

So frustrating how it was minimised and the weird focus on the job losses rather than the sexual messages she sent about and to a child and that she wanted her own daughter dead so she could have her teenage boyfriend. Wtf?!?

Lauryn's reaction was so weirdly nonchalant that I think she guessed who it was before the cop told her.

There’s a Cut article that suggests she knew & poss the father. Also some in community.

XelaM · 06/09/2025 00:24

No wonder Owen wants nothing to do with that batshit crazy family! The minimising and excusing the inexcusable was infuriating! She was sending sexually explicit messages to and about a 13-year-old boy, aside from continuously tormenting her daughter and nearly driving her to suicide.

I did read a Reddit theory which I feel made sense that Lauren knew about the Halloween party messages (which were relatively tame compared to the subsequent ones). The party was for everyone and THEIR PARENTS so Kendra was missing out too. Owen had said Lauren could go with him but I suspect Lauren wanted him to refuse to go rather than take her. Owen said Lauren just wanted it to be the two of them so she was possibly somewhat controlling like her mother. Theory is Kendra suggested sending the messages to Lauren to force Owen into not going to the Halloween party at all although I wasn’t clear from the documentary if she did go after all.

The messages then basically stop for nearly 12 months and started up again when I suspect is Kendra lost her job and had too much time on her hands. I don’t think Lauren then necessarily knew it was her mother doing them but maybe suspected. Kendra was sending the messages because she wanted to keep Kendra dependent on her plus being jealous of her and her relationship with Owen.

I’ve read people defending Lauren’s reaction at being told as her being immature and ‘in shock’ but there was literally no sign of that. She just looked like a bored teen sat in that kitchen. It is possible she’d been explicitly told prior to coming in to the kitchen because I thought the Police Officer wasn’t clear in what he was saying in the kitchen. Conversely if Lauren didn’t understand what he was saying she could have asked and she didn’t. She didn’t look upset, confused or shocked. She just looked bored and only got upset when her Dad started telling her Mum she had to leave.

JackJarvisEsq · 06/09/2025 12:17

I’m not one to spout the “the poor menz” nonsense but can you imagine if it had been a man sending these messages? I think the outrage would be far far worse

Apparently Owen’s Mum suspected Kendra & a lot of community. NB: Cut article. The more I reflect the more I think Lauryn realised too but relationship so dysfunctional meant scenario not absorbed in a normal way.

I’d simply not allow this abuse to persist & surely you’d just give your child a dumb, brick in meantime while FBI investigated. The fact Mum allowed daughter to apparently continually read that (!) should surely have been a massive red flag.

Livingthebestlife · 06/09/2025 12:45

Omg what the fuck have I just watched 😲😲 that dirty ass mouth on that mother !!! I've a feeling a lot wasn't disclosed that couple at the kitchen table I'd say know much more.

Why wasn't Lauren more shocked when the sheriff told her ? She sat there picking her toe nails ! Teens go ape shit over minor things, but she didn't even flinch at the thoughts of the dirty sick sexual messages and telling her to kill herself from her own mother.

I can see why Owen doesn't want anything to do with her, imagine forgiving your mother for that crazy shit she did to her and him and blaming others fucking up everyone's lives.

JustStopItNora · 06/09/2025 16:22

I thought Lauryn when told went into a kind of trauma response. She seemed totally shut down and stunned. The trauma responses are flight, fight, freeze or fawn. I think she went into freeze and then when she was caressing her mother's leg was in a fawn response.

She was what- 15-16 when the truth came out? Clearly in an enmeshed dependant relationship with a parent narcissist.

I can't imagine what amount of help this girl is ever going to need to build a vaguely healthy life.

KillingEvesbestmate · 06/09/2025 17:49

I think it is exactly what Owen"s mum said it was.
She was.obsessed with Owen. Owen said that she acted weird towards him , cutting his steak up etc. Absolutely disgusting woman . Should have got ten years .

blubberball · 06/09/2025 21:32

The woman is a paedophile, and I don't understand why she isn't referred to as such. She sent sexually explicit messages to children, and groomed them. If a man had done the same thing, he would be called a paedophile. I don't understand why she's not. It's so disturbing that she was a sports coach as well. A mother, and a sports coach. The most trusted person in the room, and she abused her position to send children sexually explicit messages. She's a nonce

jamnpancakes · 06/09/2025 23:09

Just watched this. Why did she say she didn't start the messages ?

"I wanted to protect her, keep her safe, control her journey" says the mum

Bullshit.

Those messages were so, so abusive.

Agree it was all a load of old " word salad" about poor her.

It keeps on coming into my mind that Lauryn might have been the one that started them as an attention ploy.

Exactly. The content of those messages was so disturbing and sexually explicit and the kids in question were around 13-14! It was completely ignored by authorities. She clearly had a sexual interest in Owen, which was the motive behind the messages.

I think Lauryn is too traumatised by her crazy mother and too innocent to sned any of the messages to herself. Until those messages started, Lauryn and Owen had a nice relationship - why would she sabotage it? I'm pretty sure all the messages were sent by her mother.

Yes and a narc. It was all about her.

queenofarles · 07/09/2025 13:07

I hate myself for watching this, probably the most disturbing thing I’ve seen and I’ve seen some horrible criminal documentaries.

MiceAsPie · 07/09/2025 17:23

I’ve just watched this and one of ny take aways was that Lauren didn’t seem shocked at all when the police came to the house. So my feeling is that she knew her mum was doing this.

she kept looking at her mum for guidance almost.

of course, as a child, it’s not her responsibility at all but I think she was involved

I'm not sure i agree but one of the other mothers thought the same, the mother of the girl who had been to florida, and was accused of it
She thought both Lauryn and her dad were involved.

I think Lauryn almost certainly knew by the end but not culpable.

Surely all of us here simply wouldn’t let our child be exposed to porn on a daily basis. We’d remove the phone.

JudeyJudey · 07/09/2025 19:13

I think Lauryn wouldn't have known which way was up by this point. Not with a mum like that.

IkeaJesusChrist · 07/09/2025 21:19

Inkanta · 31/08/2025 10:52

It was very shocking. Still on my mind today!

The messages Kendra sent were horrific, some were so explicit I'm surprised that she wasn't charged with a anything of a sexual nature.

Lauryn I think shut down when she was told but I don't think that the sheriff should have told her with her mum next to her, he could have taken her somewhere and told her in a more direct way.

I'm not surprised that the husband wanted Kendra to go straight away, he knew that every message Lauryn had received, including the sexually explicit ones were sent by her, I would have to have been held back if that was me.

Kendra should have got longer in prison, her trying to justify what she'd done made me want to switch off.
