No spoilers but this documentary is out there as one of the most disturbing I have seen in a long time, the manipulation, the death threats, the abhorrent sexual messages. Has anyone else seen this? Worth a watch I think.

  • UPDATE: We've edited the title, as requested, to reflect that there may now be spoilers on this thread

It was very shocking. Still on my mind today!

I'd be interested to know why Kendra was "let go" from both her jobs.

And interested to know why Owen has turned against Lauryn, saying he was mad at her, and not even acknowledging her now. Why is he taking it out on her, as she was as much a victim as he was?

When they said that conversations that took place in school were being referenced in the messages, I thought it was going to be a teacher or someone on the school staff that was responsible. I was really shocked when it turned out to be Kendra.

It was a shocking programme to watch, knowing that a mother could send such vile messages.

I think a lot was left unsaid about Kendra
Whilst none of it is Lauryns fault, Owen is still very young himself maybe he just wants to forget the whole thing he probably feels repulsed and embarrassed by everything and can't understand why lauryn has anything to do with kendra he's not bring fair but I csn understand why he,s reacted that way.

CalamityGanon · 31/08/2025 11:35

I can understand why Owen may be giving Lauryn a wide berth to be honest. Out of all the people involved she seemed to be the least horrified and still seemed to be in team ‘mom’ when it first came out. I totally get she was totally manipulated by her mother but I can’t imagine it would be difficult for Owen to reconcile the devastation Kendra had wreaked on him and his family with Lauryn who I can imagine having a ‘it wasn’t that bad’ attitude and supporting her mum. kendra had a multitude of excuses which Lauryn probably wanted to believe certainly at first. How many women in abusive relationships defend their abusive spouses to the hilt and this was a mother/daughter relationship which is meant to be a really close one.

Re the manipulation Kendra admitted she did all the finances. Husband was clearly aware there were money issues as they moved 4 time during the period in question and at least one occasion was due to unpaid rent and there was mention of bailiffs too. Kendra is a manipulator and I can totally see Kendra manipulating him in to thinking their money issues were due to something else rather than the fact she didn’t have a job.

CalamityGanon · 31/08/2025 11:38

Plus of course Owen and Lauryn had split up anyway even before her mother was identified as being responsible.

Same here. Can you imagine even sending one of those messages to someone? To be sending 100s to anyone is unimaginable.

MoominMai · 31/08/2025 15:32

just finished watching it. The perpetrator is frighteningly deluded is all I’ll say. Because of the dynamics involved I found it more saddening and depressing than shocking and scandalous 😕

Sadly it didnt shock me so much. A female family member speaks to me like that. Or spoke to me like that until I cut her off once and for all. I got a full range: go and kill yourself, etc etc

But for a mother to do it anonymously to her daughter is completely crazy.

Karmacamelia · 02/09/2025 12:46

Oh god.
Poor Lauryn, my heart breaks for her. One of the most disturbing programmes I have ever watched. So desperately sad. Kendra is completely in denial, I should feel anger towards her but only feel deeply sorry for her at how deeply disturbed she is. Hard to know if shesis telling the truth about anything, although the rape story would explain a lot, so awful. Lauryn is lovely, so sad her and Owen had their future together destroyed, I hope she finds happiness, she deserves it.

ThePinkPoster · 02/09/2025 14:37

Watching now. Wow. Just - wow.

Also - OMG THE VOCAL FRY. Can none of these kids speak without rasping?

JudeyJudey · 02/09/2025 17:13

Lauryn is lovely, so sad her and Owen had their future together destroyed,

What? They were about 13 weren't they?

Suednymph · 02/09/2025 17:19

Not sure how long they would have stayed together anyway but certainly their own lives have taken a turn that should never have been. Losing trust like that in people can have an enormous affect on your relationships going forward. I still cant get my head around that woman at all a week after watching it. Haunting how low some people will go.

Yes, i didn't necessarily mean long term, more that they were teenagers who were probably having the best time together and may have continued to but it was all ruined

colouringindoors · 02/09/2025 21:26

Just watched this.

WTF

Sexual messages to kids about kids, urging her daughter to kill herself?!

I was appalled how the Sherriff handled it - telling Lauren with her mum in the room!! Horrendous. Mum should have been removed and Lauren counselled.

This woman looks like a psychopath to me. I'm uncomfortable with how much "airtimr" she gets towards the end of the programme. "Sending the messages to herself" wtf? Excusing the abuse? So, so messed up. She knew Lauren wouldn't hurt herself?! Could have ended even more tragically.

Feel so, so sorry for Lauren.

colouringindoors · 02/09/2025 21:42

"I wanted to protect her, keep her safe, control her journey" says the mum

Bullshit.

Those messages were so, so abusive.

colouringindoors · 02/09/2025 21:48

The mother seems to have no comprehension of how appalling her messages and abuse was.

I really, really hope Lauren has good, professional support that enables her to fully separate from her abusive "mother".

Appalling.

Cocolapew · 02/09/2025 22:08

I've just watched it, I already knew it was Kendra, but didn't know the content of the texts 😯
The thing I dislike about these type of documentaries is nobody is really questioned, they just tell their story.
I really didn't like the director (?) saying to Kendra oh were you taking about yourself and then having to listen to more poor me from her.
She's a sexual predator and should still be in jail.

Yes and why continue the messages to Owens next girlfriend ?

WheresWallyWally · 03/09/2025 07:27

How awful for Lauryn, those messages are truly shocking.

Even in the beginning I felt the messages were more aimed towards Owen and an infatuation with him and a jealousy towards Lauryn. I suspect the attention Kendra received by proxy through Lauryn was an additional perk for her.

I felt the latter half of the documentary seemed to gloss over a few things. For example, how did Kendra seem to know information about Lauryn whilst she at school? How did she get the photo from Christmas? How did she get the phone number of Owens’s new girlfriend mother? I would be very interested to understand what actually happened with the jobs and how Kendra was able to deceive the father for so long about her employment status.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 03/09/2025 19:21

Just finished this, words fail me.

Im also shocked she only got a year in jail 🤯

Bringmeahigherlove · 03/09/2025 20:41

Lauryn definitely doesn’t seem capable of grasping the full extent of what happened. I’m not sure if she has some learning difficulties? The perpetrator is a self obsessed crack pot.

monicagellerbing · 03/09/2025 21:40

I had already seen spoilers for this so knew who the perpetrator was however I was open mouth shocked at the way it was completely minimised, especially when the cop first confronted the person at home, how the other people there didn’t start shouting and screaming at the person I do not know! And totally agree about the sexual nature of the messages. Absolutely disgusting that this seemed to be completely overlooked. Lauryn did appear to me to have some learning difficulties.

I know it’s off topic but the vocal fry of these kids is grating. Especially Adrianna the cousin. Really really irritating

Choclabratwatowner88 · 03/09/2025 22:40

I just can not fathom how a mother could do that to her own child. A s a mum we are supposed to protect them from this sort of thing.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 03/09/2025 22:51

I also couldn’t understand why they didn’t change the kids phones, had they done this it would have made it easier to work out who could be doing it?

The police were very slow to work it out and should have gone to the FBI much sooner.

ILoveWhales · 04/09/2025 07:24

She's still a child though. Children often don't understand the ramifications of things. Children often stay loyal to abusive parents.

It will probably hit her in adulthood. And she realises.

User14March · 05/09/2025 23:03

Firealarm1414 · 30/08/2025 17:55

Did anyone else find the reactions when the police revealed who was responsible very strange? I understand Lauryn being shellshocked but to not even express shock or to say anything? the other person seemed more annoyed and shocked about the other lies than the harassment.

Poor Lauryn, I feel like this is all going to hit her like a ton of bricks at at some point , she is still deeply enmeshed with the person.

Edited

Why was Lauryn so passive on reveal? Did she know on some level? Most in Lauryn’s position would surely go TOTALLY nuclear!
