No spoilers but this documentary is out there as one of the most disturbing I have seen in a long time, the manipulation, the death threats, the abhorrent sexual messages. Has anyone else seen this? Worth a watch I think.

  • UPDATE: We've edited the title, as requested, to reflect that there may now be spoilers on this thread

I can’t believe how much they glossed over the senders clear infatuation with Owen, it really felt like that was more of a reason for the messages than their excuse. Otherwise why message the new girlfriend too?

Then senders reasons made no sense at all even when they talked about their history and the reasons for doing whst they did itmade no sense
And I agree i think they were infatuated with Owen and jealous of Lauryn.

MoggetsCollar · 30/08/2025 10:32

I cannot believe the perpetrator was not done for child abuse?? Why were social services not called??

The sender isn't allowed contact with either Lauryn or Owen so I would assume they would be seen as safe now ,but I would hope the sender is being heavily monitored, so they can't stalk any other children like this?

Suednymph · 30/08/2025 11:28

It is rare I feel such revulsion for a person but this one... wow. Just wow. The more I think of it the more sickened I feel by it all. And zero accountability either.

HelloHattie · 30/08/2025 11:33

Absolutely devastated for that poor girl. She’s lovely and will have to live with what happened.

x2boys · 30/08/2025 11:40

It's such a small town aa well everyone will know what's happened to her and to owen they are both victims

ilikeeggs · 30/08/2025 12:59

Who the perpetrator turned out to be was shocking enough but I could not believe the amount of minimising this person did and was still clearly lying about why they did it and claiming they didn’t send the first messages. Absolutely no accountability at all. I can only guess that this person was infatuated with Owen as there other need for how sexually explicit the content of the messages were.

x2boys · 30/08/2025 13:45

Owen was 12 when it started and he looked 12 I find that paticularly disturbing
Khloe,s mother made some interesting comments, i won't say what they where as I don't want to give away any spoilers.

CarpeVitam · 30/08/2025 14:07

Don’t think I’ve ever watched anything so shocking! Truly mindblown! 🤯🤯🤯

Agree with this, especially with how sexual the messages were. I also agree with the Headteacher guy that it’s like Münchausen syndrome. The person seems to blame everyone else for everything that’s happened in their life, no accountability at all.
Unfortunately I feel Lauryn is going to completely regret keeping this person in their life as they reach adulthood.

Onleemoi · 30/08/2025 14:51

Have a watch of Con Mum if you haven’t already seen it.

racierach · 30/08/2025 15:40

This was just shocking. No real regret or understanding from the perpetrator. Poor kids.

Londonnight · 30/08/2025 16:17

I've just watched it and it is really disturbing. It was the huge amount of text messages I couldn't get over with the actual vile things that were said.

The lack of remorse by the person that did this is shocking.

YanTanTetheraPetheraBumfitt · 30/08/2025 17:00

Just watching it now. Unbelievable.

The main girl (Lauren)? could have killed herself over this. I also don’t believe that they only sent the latter messages, they were too similar. The police think it was all the same person.

the excuse about wanting to get to the bottom of it as the reason for sending them doesn’t make sense

i think the person is a total psychopath. The lies about the job. Giggling towards the end interview, saying oh everyone has probably done something illegal, they just haven’t been caught! wtf! Fake crying as well with no tears, mopping their chin?? wtf. Totally sick. They must hate Lauren. They must have liked the attention. To target Lauren appearance and then say they didn’t!! Telling her to kill herself! I can’t believe how forgiving of the perpetrator Lauren seems to be.

one thing i don’t understand is why they agreed to take part in the documentary. They are sat there with a weird grin, like they are enjoying being interviewed!

Yes very strange I think they have probably only touched the surface of the Senders past behaviour and glossed over a lot
You don't go from perfectly normal behaviour to that kind of behaviour.it just doesn't ring true.

Firealarm1414 · 30/08/2025 17:55

Did anyone else find the reactions when the police revealed who was responsible very strange? I understand Lauryn being shellshocked but to not even express shock or to say anything? the other person seemed more annoyed and shocked about the other lies than the harassment.

Poor Lauryn, I feel like this is all going to hit her like a ton of bricks at at some point , she is still deeply enmeshed with the person.

JudeyJudey · 30/08/2025 18:09

To be honest it starts off a little dull but then 🤯

Thank you for posting this because I'd left it after five minutes and your comment got me watching it again. I was gobsmacked. Couldn't believe it, even having read the spoilery hint on page 1.

The ripple effects of this must have been so harmful and long-lasting.

I wondered if the programme makers portrayed of some of the participants as having a different kind of lifestyle than they really have. I mean, in terms of the panelled rooms, hair & make up etc. that seemed quite different to the old photos and videos.

menopausalfart · 30/08/2025 18:18

It was shocking. The perp was clearly obsessed with a minor and jealous of the attention the girl was getting.

The thing is we all react differently and none of us know how we would until we’re in it. I think starting to judge reactions is a dangerous path.

UneFoisAuChalet · 30/08/2025 18:36

I did not expect the perpetrator to be the perpetrator (sorry don’t know how else to say it without spoiling). I’m usually quite good at picking the guilty one - one of my hobbies is watching 48 hrs and calling who’s guilty!

But I never imagined this is a million years because of the perpetrator’s role. It just defies all rational. You must be a psychopath to behave that way. Like a previous poster said, the giggling, the ‘everyone has done something illegal’ WTAF.

In fact, showing their face after this is mind blowing. You must be insane to even take part in the documentary because any sane person would move away and change their names.

I found the kitchen scene mind blowing. So so much damage was being done to that child and we only heard half of it. The trauma Lauryn will face later when she’s an adult…

I think that the other person’s reaction was complete shock and they were too busy dealing with the first shock - jobs, finances, evictions, etc and hadn’t even began to process the other part. As it was all becoming clear in their mind, they just wanted the person removed before they wrapped their mind over everything that was coming out.

As for Lauryn’s reaction - that’s a child who has been controlled her entire life. I expected her to scream, shout out ‘why’? But she did none of that. As I said, it was mind blowing.

I think the other person held it together quite well
I can't even begin to imagine how I would feel they must have been reeling

JudeyJudey · 30/08/2025 18:48

I think "spoilers" needs adding to the title.

CalamityGanon · 30/08/2025 18:51

I was a bit shocked by Lauren’s reaction to being told who it was. She did not react in anyway at all. It was really bizarre. In actual fact I thought the Police Officer when he was telling her didn’t seem to be very clear about what he was telling her and I thought possibly she didn’t really grasp what he was saying. It was just really odd.

However the offender’s reaction was really odd too. Multiple excuses and a complete lack of responsibility for their actions. The dismissive comment about ‘everyone’s done something illegal but I just got caught’ said more about them than anything else. The minimising of those truly horrific messages. I felt the sister may have had some stories to tell but they didn’t really probe her other than her saying that the offender had always been an attention seeker but that was it.

I know American law is different to uk but I was confused why they didn’t arrest the offender as soon as they admitted it but did it several days/weeks(?) later.

Agree. I don’t think there can be a proper discussion without identifying the offender.
