No spoilers but this documentary is out there as one of the most disturbing I have seen in a long time, the manipulation, the death threats, the abhorrent sexual messages. Has anyone else seen this? Worth a watch I think.

  • UPDATE: We've edited the title, as requested, to reflect that there may now be spoilers on this thread

Agree. I don’t think there can be a proper discussion without identifying the offender.

Agree we are talking in riddles 🤣

UneFoisAuChalet · 30/08/2025 18:58

Yes, I agree this thread should include spoilers. It’s a really fascinating documentary for the typical mumsnet’s poster as we mostly share something in common with the perp

How about you start a new spoiler thread? 🙂

Or contact MNHQ ro add spoilers to the title

Don’t think I can edit title can I? But I agree we have a lot to discuss!

Just watched it and like other posters, mind absolutely blown. The damage done to the victims and their friends is huge and probably lifelong. The interview with the perpetrator was extraordinary, seemingly no regret. As for the sentence - laughable.

Suednymph · 30/08/2025 11:28

It is rare I feel such revulsion for a person but this one... wow. Just wow. The more I think of it the more sickened I feel by it all. And zero accountability either.

Same here. Evil. Glad to see there's thread on it.

bringbackthespira · 30/08/2025 19:29

Wow. I’ve just watched.
Absolutely crazy
I’m normally good at knowing this kind of stuff, but I didn’t guess this one!
my mind is blown

ILoveWhales · 30/08/2025 19:40

It kind of made sense when they said ahe had a kind of Munchausens that Kendra had.

It must have got her a lot of attention to have her daughter be the victim of stalking. So she was inflicting it for attention for herself.

localnotail · 30/08/2025 19:45

I watched it and still shocked the person is still allowed contact with the victims - and that she was allowed to give "her side of things" in a very sympathetic way. She is vile and unhinged, and clearly damaging to everyone around her.

I also wonder how no one is worried about sexual nature of the messages and all the "kill yourself" stuff. She is clearly dangerous.

JudeyJudey · 30/08/2025 19:48

I thought the person behind the messages should really have been on the sex offenders register (do they have such a thing in the US?).

YanTanTetheraPetheraBumfitt · 30/08/2025 19:50

Ok, now the title has changed.

yes, I thought munchasen syndrome. She liked the attention. I was literally thinking that when the teacher (or was it police officer) said it too.

JudeyJudey · 30/08/2025 19:51

Ooh, thanks @MNHQ for the new title.

I too was flabbergasted that she was allowed to continue contact beyond anything more than, say, 2 letters a year. For me it felt like the abusive relationship just carried on, in a slightly different way.

The way L. (and her parents) reacted to finding out the perpetrator's name hinted at a rather chaotic childhood. She seemed to disassociate.

I noticed that Lauryn only got upset when the dad started shouting and getting angry. She covered her ears and drew herself up into a ball 😔 And the way he kept saying take her now or I'll do something I regret, or words to that effect, seemed to hint at an explosive domestic situation that she had been a witness to for years.

It says 'spoilers' on the title? Can we not say who it was?

Anyhoo, I will try to avoid saying it!

I agree with this post. ^ The woman who was responsible is vile and unhinged. And utterly repugnant!

I am sickened and disgusted at how she was minimising her behaviour and acting like a victim. Also denying it was her to start with. It so was her, and as some posters have said, she had an obsession with Lauren's boyfriend, and was jealous of Lauryn.

She has no idea how damaging her vile and putrid acts have damaged Lauryn, and I am disgusted at how not many people seemed to take account of the fact she called her slut, and bitch, and said 'die now' and 'kill yourself' and 'you don't deserve to live' etc etc... Some of them were acting like it was just silent phone calls!

All the 'I wasn't quite myself' bollocks boiled my piss. It's upsetting and worrying too, that Lauryn wants contact with her again. It's like Stockholm Syndrome. I know I sound ignorant, but why oh WHY has Lauryn not decided to cut her out of her life? Poor girl. She needs to be taken away, and the woman should have got 10 years for what she did. Not a shitty 15 months!

Edited

I kind of felt that was the moment the penny dropped and she realised that there were going to be major ramifications. That basically her parents were splitting up. Which would be upsetting regardless of the circumstances.

We can say now as it was edited.

She is her mother at the end of the day. It's hard to cut contact with your mum especially so young.

JudeyJudey · 30/08/2025 20:25

I think we can discuss without outright giving it away. It just helps people avoid accidentally spoiling the programme if they have it in their Watching list.

I know I sound ignorant, but why oh WHY has Lauryn not decided to cut her out of her life? I've known children experience much worse at the hands of their mother and still love them and want to be with them. That's why I think the decision should be made by someone other than the child/teen to end contact.

Ineedanewsofa · 30/08/2025 20:34

Glad the spoilers title has been added! I feel so sorry for that poor girl and the lad who seems to have been caught in this awful woman’s fantasy life. The PPs are right, she was treated far too sympathetically by the documentary makers, I also think the Dad’s reaction was very telling

GoingOutOutAgain · 30/08/2025 20:45

Just finished this. Absolutely insane. I thought it was the cousin for ages.

This must be one of the most damaging types of psychological abuse - to watch your child in pain and then keep going attacking her? Vile.

I suppose if Lauryn wants to keep in contact thsn how can she be stopped?
She must be 16/17 now?

In what way?

UneFoisAuChalet · 30/08/2025 20:55

Now that we can talk about it…

I never doubted Kendra was guilty because a) she was shown sitting on a couch, recounting the details of the messages like all the others. B) she’s her mother. No mother would do that. Even the most abusive of mothers that we either known in RL or seen on television wouldn’t drag through the consistent and persistent abuse of their child. Lauryn was a 13 year old child. Not an adult who she might have felt she was in competition with, a bloody child.

I thought it was that Khloe kid or the school principal before I believed it to be Kendra.

LondonElle · 30/08/2025 20:58

Apparently L was filmed at two different stages. She’s now 18 and seemed less keen on being in contact with K. Poor girl I hope she gets the love support and help she needs but how do you process the unimaginable.

Yes i thought it was Khloe ,khloes mum. Made a comment about Lauryn and her dad would act all innocent and make out they knew nothing about it but i think she's just bitter and understandably so because everyone thought it was Khloe for a while and Kendra pinned it on her.

I agree. I think it shows the effects of that kind of coercive control and just how long and complicated the recovery from it is.
