Where There's Cake, There's Hope...Bake Off 25

The new series starts on Tuesday 2nd September and the bakers have been named. A few weeks earlier than recent seasons, so taking us nicely from late summer through to the cosiness of autumn.

No change to the team of Paul, Prue, Noel and Alison, which I thought worked well last year - it was a warmer and kinder programme than it has been for a few years.

The usual eclectic mix of contestants, but less of an age spread than some years - a lot of 30 somethings, no-one under 20 or over 60.

Anyone else excited for this season?

Yes @Pancakeflipper - she did say that she doesn't eat sweet things. I'm not sure that will hold her back as I eat loads of sweet things and would be worse than any of the bakers in the tent!

Butteredtoast55 · 09/09/2025 20:44

Have come to the conclusion that I'm tired of the nonsense of Bake Off. I love to see what people are making and learn new techniques etc, but it's a real exercise in setting people up to fail. They aren't given long enough, they're not given sufficient guidance in the technical and the showstopper challenges are more focused on a theme than creating an actual delicious bake.

Wolbutter · 09/09/2025 20:44

Why do they keep saying the caramel's too thick like that's a bad thing?

We need to laugh emoji back 🤣

Pancakeflipper · 09/09/2025 20:45

Toby smashes it again.

Ellmau · 09/09/2025 20:46

Toby could be heading for star baker?

Poor Pui Man is going to have to do a spectacular showstopper.

LadyAddle · 09/09/2025 20:46

I really want a hobnob now

GetSetFake · 09/09/2025 20:47

Mincemeat ganache?!

I thought that looked disgusting but the judges liked it.

Toby should have had a handshake

Well - some of them succeeded. So it wasn't impossible. I actually think the time limits are better this year.

Not sure, but I don't think Paul ever gives handshakes for the technical.

Pui Man didn’t do that badly last week did she?

Pancakeflipper · 09/09/2025 20:55

A time capsule ???

Next week in bread week, they take inspiration from the pottery challenge show and create a flushing toilet made from bread.

I just want gorgeous biscuits. Not over worked dough.

Not2identifying · 09/09/2025 20:56

I like Pui Man, I hope she can pull this off.

Pancakeflipper · 09/09/2025 20:56

Pui Man - like your ambition.

PrincessScarlett · 09/09/2025 21:03

They always have to assemble biscuit constructions in a baking hot tent. They need to move to a nice air conditioned studio and then we would see masterpieces.

GetSetFake · 09/09/2025 21:06

Honestly, if you're just here to whinge about the challenges being too complicated and just wanting a nice biscuit, I do wonder if this is the show for you? They've been asking for this level of challenge for years. I quite often bake along with the series and I blooming love the gingerbread challenges, so much fun.

I feel very told off.

Sorry mother.

Am I the only person on the planet who doesn't like hobnobs?

Very possibly, they are the Best Biscuit

Yes.

PrincessScarlett · 09/09/2025 21:09

I love Pui Man's positivity with her "I'm not going home" 😃

Not2identifying · 09/09/2025 21:10

It's tense; hope the biscuits don't break in these final stages.

lettingthedaysgoby · 09/09/2025 21:10

Some of these are amazing!

PrincessScarlett · 09/09/2025 21:11

These are all so clever. I'm impressed.
