Where There's Cake, There's Hope...Bake Off 25

The new series starts on Tuesday 2nd September and the bakers have been named. A few weeks earlier than recent seasons, so taking us nicely from late summer through to the cosiness of autumn.

No change to the team of Paul, Prue, Noel and Alison, which I thought worked well last year - it was a warmer and kinder programme than it has been for a few years.

The usual eclectic mix of contestants, but less of an age spread than some years - a lot of 30 somethings, no-one under 20 or over 60.

Anyone else excited for this season?

Am I the only person on the planet who doesn't like hobnobs?

No, I don't either, The oats stick in your teeth.

No, I’m also a hobnob heretic. I think they taste like overly sweetened straw.

Agree with PP on tent temperature. The challenges are already so difficult that throwing in a ludicrously hot tent seems too much. I’d like to see what they can do without high temp/humidity interfering with the results.

murasaki · 09/09/2025 21:15

Dark chocolate hobnobs were a solid 30% of my student diet.

I feel very told off.

Sorry mother.

Sorry! There just seems to be so much negativity but obviously I just added to that so I do apologise.

It's the tent tension.... it's rubbing off on us.

Jessica's box is beautiful.

Ellmau · 09/09/2025 21:17

I like the piano, finesse or not.

Ellmau · 09/09/2025 21:18

Another lovely box from Jasmine.

Not2identifying · 09/09/2025 21:18

I like Jessika's pictures on the outside of her box and the concept.

Iain's doesn't look very impressive. The moving bit doesn't compensate for that in my view.

I thought the pattern on Lesley's was good.

Missed Leighton's.

Jasmine's is very neat, looks amazing. Star baker material maybe!

Pancakeflipper · 09/09/2025 21:18

Oh Jasmine.... it is a work of art.

Ellmau · 09/09/2025 21:18

Oh dear.

C8H10N4O2 · 09/09/2025 21:18

Much as I admire Tom’s artistry I just don’t find blue and bright green biscuits or cakes appetising.

I can remember joining a food tasting panel once (for product testing). They used to use blue to mask any appetising appearance in some tests as apparently its the colour humans are predisposed to avoid in food.

NotMyRealAccount · 09/09/2025 21:19

I was hoping Jasmine would get a handshake there.

Ellmau · 09/09/2025 21:19

Oh, that one is very cute.

Not2identifying · 09/09/2025 21:20

Natalia - bit off more than she could bake.

Nadia's looks good, but it's similar to Jasmine's and the latter did it better.

I like Toby's and love the flavours he used but the judges don't like the taste. Dog inspiration is always okay by me.

Ellmau · 09/09/2025 21:20

Aaron's is very pretty.

PrincessScarlett · 09/09/2025 21:21

Wow. Paul just put Toby back in his place after smashing the technical.

Not2identifying · 09/09/2025 21:21

Aaron - I thought the concept was good but he just didn't manage to pull it off. The biscuits inside were rubbish (although apparently tasted good). Oh dear, the laughing!

Pui Man's looks fantastic. Hopefully she's saved herself.

Ellmau · 09/09/2025 21:22

Pui has saved herself.

Not2identifying · 09/09/2025 21:23

I'm so happy for her.

Ellmau · 09/09/2025 21:23

I actually don't like it as much as some of the others.

Ellmau · 09/09/2025 21:23

The cottage is adorable.

Ellmau · 09/09/2025 21:23

Is Danish granny going to be mentioned every week? It's 2/2 so far.

CrushingOnRubies · 09/09/2025 21:24

Really hope Pui Man has done enough there to stay in

Ellmau · 09/09/2025 21:24

A handshake!
