Where There's Cake, There's Hope...Bake Off 25

The new series starts on Tuesday 2nd September and the bakers have been named. A few weeks earlier than recent seasons, so taking us nicely from late summer through to the cosiness of autumn.

No change to the team of Paul, Prue, Noel and Alison, which I thought worked well last year - it was a warmer and kinder programme than it has been for a few years.

The usual eclectic mix of contestants, but less of an age spread than some years - a lot of 30 somethings, no-one under 20 or over 60.

Anyone else excited for this season?

Yep, at the moment it looks like Jasmine for star baker and Toby to go but the next round is always the most important.

Hedjwitch · 28/10/2025 20:21

Does Jasmine ever get anything wrong?

She is too predictable. I know it sounds mean, but part of me hopes she doesn't win.

And she doesnt sound Scottish either.

Just wish Tom would stop running his fingers through his hair every two minutes!😩

I wouldn't want to eat anything he'd baked after all that hair-touching.

FawnDrench · 28/10/2025 20:39

Bloody macarons yet again!
Cant they do something’s else ffs

Florencesndzebedee · 28/10/2025 20:41

I think Tobys had it unfortunately.
Jasmine doesn’t even need to try, she’s such an instinctive baker. It’s been a done deal for a while. She’s obviously a high achiever doing medicine etc.

CrushingOnRubies · 28/10/2025 20:41

12kg of chocolate!!!

littlbrowndog · 28/10/2025 20:41

Oh my god 12 kilos of chocolate

Looking at that chocolate - who pays for all the ingredients?

PrincessScarlett · 28/10/2025 20:42

Paul saying to Tom "what are you doing?!" over his 12kg of chocolate 🤣🤣

And she doesnt sound Scottish either.

She's very posh Edinburgh, that's why she has no accent. But I read on her instagram today that she was a) doing her medicine finals this week of filming and b) crying a lot off screen. No wonder she has stuck to a limited palette of flavours, not a lot of time to be experimental if she's fitting this in around exams. And I suspect medical students learn pretty quickly to present a front of total confidence and do their crying in secret.

And how good quality are the ingredients? With something like chocolate the actual quality / taste of the chocolate makes a difference.

How does she find the time to do all that baking as a medical student? The workload and clinical placements don't leave much spare time.

Also looking at Tom pouring that chocolate a lot of it isn’t tempered - its full of unmelted pieces. I made that mistake once (on a much smaller scale) and it affected the flavour as well as the look.

Delurking to gasp at the 12kg chocolate. I buy in bulk sometimes - not in those quantities though! - and that much Callebaut (which I think I spotted him using) would cost over £200.

ETA - probably quite a bit over £250 actually. Just looked at the prices! 😵‍💫

That's why Paul asked Tom what he was doing, he's blown the Bake Off budget on 12kg of quality chocolate. That he's now dripping all over the floor 🤣

KimTheresPeopleThatAreDying · 28/10/2025 20:48

Tom is a bit of a tit IMHO.

Hedjwitch · 28/10/2025 20:48

Oh Aaron!

Hobnobswantshernameback · 28/10/2025 20:49

PrincessScarlett · 28/10/2025 20:51

That chocolate beehive is so bloody thick. You'd break your jaw on it!

Florencesndzebedee · 28/10/2025 20:51

Aaron is panicking now.
