It was definitely a case of the makers jumping before they were pushed so had to pull something out of their backsides very quickly

& they did @Dita73 it was literally & figuratively shit!

Scorchio84 · 15/08/2025 15:24

@cordelia16 Oh my god RDJ (Larry) broke my heart in Ally McBeal.. I was so angry with him (RDJ) & then Jon Bon Jovi came along.. no consolation but better than nothing! I LOVED that programme actually, I might try a rewatch now The Guilded Age is over now too

PurplebeadedFendi · 15/08/2025 15:32

Wasn't RDJ SJP's big love pre Matthew Broderick?

PurplebeadedFendi · 15/08/2025 15:41

Whilst Mark is absolutely not Carrie's type, I did eye roll over the 3 marriages line. Carrie having been Big's third wife and desperate to become so. Just like I eye rolled over Aiden breaking her boundaries with Duncan, when she continually broke Aiden's physical and personal boundaries over Big and wouldn't accept Aiden's reasons why this upset him. And I hate standing up for Aiden, so that makes me extra cross! I can't believe Aiden was tossed so quickly. I am glad he went, but it all seemed too sudden and without enough build up to the end, especially as she was describing him as her 22 year old relationship and love of her life etc. And we never found out what was clanking heavily in all those bags he brought with him!

SheilaFentiman · 15/08/2025 15:50

Spoilers

Well, at least Seema and Carrie remembered in the finale that Carrie was, in fact, married to Big, and that it was, in fact, Quite a Big Deal (pun intended) after all that 'Aidan for 22 years' bollocks.

greengreyblue · 15/08/2025 15:53

How can Charlotte put Mark with Carrie??? Does she not know her friend by now?

greengreyblue · 15/08/2025 15:54

I was hoping Carrie would bump into podcast man and we’d be left thinking about that. But no.

That was how many years ago, and I still can't rewatch those final episodes with Larry. And at Christmas!! Larry leaving Ally after promising he never would broke me. I was an absolute wreck - no storyline has ever gotten to me like that one. It felt like a real breakup. And then Vonda's singing at the end killed me further. My heart retroactively hurts as I type this haha.

I know RDJ massively struggled during this time, and I really applaud him for turning his life around. But at the time I was so angry at him for hurting Ally and ending one of my fave tv couples ever. I saw an interview with either Calista or one of the producers who said that Ally and Larry were meant to stay together.

I think I also might try a rewatch xx

Newgirls · 15/08/2025 16:42

He’s got a plane!! She did used to be very swayed by money.

i liked her line about ‘being chosen’. That rang true and seemed very reflective.

all the wee etc - to remind us / Carrie that men can be awful ?!

Dita73 · 15/08/2025 17:08

I think the toilet scene was probably a metaphor for the entire show. Overflowing with a load of crap

Candlesburn · 15/08/2025 17:13

Spoilers ahead -

I think I will rewatch as am sure there are bits I missed . I did feel they tried to cram too much in and agree it was annoying to introduce new characters . At least Harry and Steve got a look in , even albeit briefly .

I was starting to find Carrie so annoying especially in this series . I find it incredibly hard to believe that she barely mentioned
Big over the last few series . He was totally erased . I do understand because of the allegations against the actor they may not want to mention him too much . I do think they went too far the other way and did a disservice to those who have suffered grief . There was never any nostalgia and only brief mentions about him . I was annoyed when she talked about having been in a relationship with Aiden for 22 years ( I think ) as though he was the one that got away . Carrie tossed him away several times !
I loved the character of Seema and I am glad that she had found true love with someone decent .
Charlotte became a parody of herself and Miranda also became even more annoying .
I probably would have continued watching more series , if even for the fashion and some nostalgia .

it would have been great if Kim Catrall had made an appearance in the end , but wasn’t to be .
I did like Lisa’s character and looked forward to seeing her bonkers jewellery .
The third series was far superior to the earlier series , but did seem to lack something .

tothelefttotheleft · 15/08/2025 17:18

Yo me the whole reboot feels like it's been written through the gaze of what a man thinks a woman is like. It's all caricatures.

I don't know, Mark was quite charming and might've been a fun escort to the theatre or galleries!

PurplebeadedFendi · 15/08/2025 19:29

I’m looking for symbolism in Miranda ending up knee deep in a wokester’s shit. Maybe that’s the writers punishing CN for turning Miranda into herself, and more or less destroying the re-boot from the off with her woke shit.

SagaNorensPorche · 15/08/2025 19:51

They had better find some money for a film to wrap this up properly. What a joke that was. Even the actors looked embarrassed.

ETA: and we didn’t even see Charlotte’s new hall
did we.

I thought the writers changed Miranda, not CN?

Bumble6 · 15/08/2025 21:22

Just got round to watching the finale. What a let down. I so loved the original series and all the characters. I understood that it had to change a bit for modern viewing but this last episode was a MASSIVE letdown. Absolutely no depth to any of the storylines etc.
I'm convinced, like others, that there is no way the series was planned to end like that.

Sminty2 · 15/08/2025 21:54

How sad.

I feel as if my lifelong best friend had an awful, messy mid-life crisis and never recovered from it.

What a waste of such iconic characters.

OhDorWheresthesalad · 15/08/2025 22:11

Spoilers
Just seen it. And Just Like That, my 20 something year love affair has ended. I loved that show more than I probably should have, but I really did. As a pp said, Carrie and Big on the bridge in Paris was the proper ending and maybe should have just stayed there.
I hated Mia's friends and the toilet nonsense.
However, I thought the 4 women at the bridal show looked beautiful and I thought the conversation was perfect.
I thought Miranda looked more like her old self than in a long time and it was good to see Steve.
SJP looked fabulous.
I cannot believe they whizzed through the Very Last One in under half an hour.
I just feel a bit cheated by it all. The show, after a shocking start, grew on me and now I feel (a little) bereft at its loss, but mostly at the loss of them, it was very of its time, but it was my time too and it feels a bit sad.

Holluschickie · 15/08/2025 22:13

What a shit finale. Literally and metaphorically. So bitty and pointless and poorly written.

Why is every Gen Z person in this so deeply annoying and inconsiderate and ridiculous? Also how did Brady get Mia to shut up long enough to have sex with her?

SheilaFentiman · 15/08/2025 22:19

I actually felt pretty sorry for Brady. He wants to be a chef, he’s sorting out dinner for all his mum’s friends and families, he’s been dragged along in the past to Lily’s piano recital and whatnot when he isn’t even friends with her.

Then practically everyone cancels, the people who do come are awful to him and the turkey is messed up because none of Mia’s selfish crew thought to bring the food she would eat and Carrie didn’t think to text a Turkey question, just took it out.
