I’m getting snacks and drinks in and watching the whole thing while pretending I’m 12 again. Can’t wait for the Quo to kick it off in half an hour! Anyone else gonna watch?

I love how they’re having to tell us not to try donating now as the numbers etc are no longer active.Grin

They have missed a trick here I think

JaneJeffer · 12/07/2025 18:45

Remember the video for this?

I can’t look at Midge Ure now without thinking of Fr. Benny Cake Grin

PhaseFour · 12/07/2025 18:45

@BlueEyedBogWitchyou and me both. I had forgotten just quite how stunningly beautiful he was back in the day!

Steelworks · 12/07/2025 18:45

Never was into Adam Ant back in 89s but really enjoyed him just now.

JaneJeffer · 12/07/2025 18:46

Funny we were chatting about how gorgeous Adam was on the tennis thread a few days ago Grin

ImWearingPantaloons · 12/07/2025 18:47

We’re watching!! I too am 12 again although first time round I was only interested in Duran Duran and the Power Station so I’m hoping to appreciate it more this time round

Steelworks · 12/07/2025 18:47

I’d really recommend the ‘Just for One day’ musical in London. Superb. It’s gets the feel of the 80s and how momentous it was all , but also views it through modern eyes as well.

I was there and still remember very little of it

I was there with a group of friends . The bits I can’t remember happened while we were queuing for watery beers at the overrun bar .
Immediately before it began we were told to buy the souvenir T-shirts , wrap them around our heads and soak ourselves with water because it was so hot .
We took turns yomping up to the bar all day and drank a lot - by the early evening we were all a bit cheery…. Jumping around to Freddie’s performance could never be forgotten but by the time David Bowie appeared I think we were all just a bit complacent .
Didn’t appreciate how we were going to be a small part of history……

Jackiebrambles · 12/07/2025 18:49

Thank you so much OP - got it on now, I have it on DVD but no player anymore!

Adam Ant was quite athletic wasn’t he?!

I was about 8 years old and we all watched until I was made to go to bed!

stargirl1701 · 12/07/2025 18:50

Loving it so far.

Trying to explain to DD2 age 10 how to post a Giro!

Raahh · 12/07/2025 18:50

Ohhhhhhh VIENNNNNNNNA

Appalonia · 12/07/2025 18:50

Midge must have been hot in that coat!

SwedishEdith · 12/07/2025 18:50

The weather was similar to today. Midge regretting his Mac.

stargirl1701 · 12/07/2025 18:51

Oh, Vienna!

Oh how brilliant that you were there!😁

SpottyAardvark · 12/07/2025 18:52

I’m ancient enough to have watched Live Aid on the day. I was a teenager at the time & I remember it so clearly, as you do remember the cultural milestones of your teenage years.

Before it started I thought it might be rubbish as most of the acts seemed older than my parents. But as soon as Status Quo started playing Rockin all over the world & Wembley was absolutely jumping I knew it was going to be brilliant. I’m going to do it all again tonight while DP fires up the BBQ. Enjoy the evening, everyone! WineGrin

dewfirst · 12/07/2025 18:52

Yes -still got the tickets !!

Raahh · 12/07/2025 18:52

SwedishEdith definitely- 'what look should we go for' 're-create the video?' 'might be hot? '
' It'll be fine....'.

Midge melts.

TheFinePrintess · 12/07/2025 18:52

I don’t think I even realised back then what a fabulous voice Midge Ure has!

Appalonia · 12/07/2025 18:52

I was a bit of a New Romantic back in the day, I loved Vienna!

PuppyMonkey · 12/07/2025 18:53

I’ve caught up with it live now. My friend was mad about Ultravox. So fascinating seeing the audience actually watching rather than filming it on their phones.

I thought the same after seeing the Jyst Firbone day musical (see above). I’ve since listened to his music a lot.
