I absolutely LOVED Sade. Listened to her album on repeat.

I was 16 and worked all day. Saw the end late at night.

See I thought sade was quite boring.

I like hearing her now for nostalgia but I couldn't get into it back then. Also it ushered in a very unfortunate six months where everyone pretended to like jazz, and then things got really really dull.

To a kid like me growing up in a small ex-mining town in Derbyshire in the 1980s Sade seemed like the epitome of style, sophistication & class. I read later that she & her band were penniless & living in a squat when they hit the big time. The power of marketing, even back then…

Watching it now - Sade was and is amazing. I wanted to be her so badly back then, she was so effortlessly cool, but sadly I was more Kylie, complete with perm.

I don't mind Sade- but I would have preferred to have heard more from Nik.

(I probably thought the same at the time, to be honest).

She was never going to be the epitome of class 😆
