I’m getting snacks and drinks in and watching the whole thing while pretending I’m 12 again. Can’t wait for the Quo to kick it off in half an hour! Anyone else gonna watch?

To anyone there, how’d you go to the loo? I’m guessing no one had a drink so most were probably dehydrated by today’s standards!

Yep. I went to the Stones in Roundhay Park in Leeds in 1983. I'd done a full night shift as a student nurse the night previous. Got to the park at 11am. Managed to not drink or need a wee till 9pm. I was fine.

smith and jones [rip mel smith]

I remember crying laughing at their barbecue sketch. Wonder if it’s on YouTube.

whatever happened to paul young, he was great

He was the support act when Cher toured in 2019 and he was really awful

On the doc last week, it showed that after Bowie introduced the song by The Cars, with the devastating footage, was the moment that the donations really took off.

I was 14 and watched the whole thing with my sister who is 4 years older. I remember being so shocked by that video - I can still see it my minds eye when that Cars song is played.

Evenstar · 12/07/2025 21:33

Freddie 🤩

Jellykat · 12/07/2025 21:33

Lovely naughty Freddie 😥

SirChenjins · 12/07/2025 21:34

Freddie Mercury - what a voice and presence

EverardDeTroyes · 12/07/2025 21:34

Move aside everyone, the master has arrived.

SpottyAardvark · 12/07/2025 21:34

On the subject of great live bands, here’s Queen.

Freddie’s voice really was unequalled, before or since.

Fashion sense dodgy as fuck, though…

My sister saw Queen at Knebworth - the one gig I really regret not seeing.

Ahhhh I was at that 😁 Queen & quo on the same bill

WillowTit · 12/07/2025 21:35

Freddie Mercury is what is needed!

I can’t listen to The Cars. Ric Ocasek was such a horrible prick and treated Paulina Porizkova like shit.

tobee · 12/07/2025 21:35

This always makes me teary

That’s impressive!

cornishatheart · 12/07/2025 21:36

Nobody could ever strut his stuff like Freddie Mercury. Just wonderful!

He lives near me 🙂

Quite often see him in town.

wobblyweasel · 12/07/2025 21:36

Oh I’m feeling old! Was 19 and had a whale of a time at the concert! @BlueEyedBogWitch Adam Ant! He might be 70, but damn I still definitely would….

I agree. Such an asshole and she was so out of his league.

BlueEyedBogWitch · 12/07/2025 21:37

When I went to see the Bohemian Rhapsody biopic I cried all the way through the last 20 minutes, where they recreated the Live Aid performance.

I cried last night watching the Days of Our Lives video, too. Dear Freddie ❤️

MyPunnyLemur · 12/07/2025 21:37

Tears. What a loss that man was to the music world. Dear dear Freddie.

BangaloreLulu · 12/07/2025 21:37

Ironic to think Geldof refused to book Queen for ages because he felt they were past it!

MissAmbrosia · 12/07/2025 21:38

I feel quite emotional now

Tudorduxbury · 12/07/2025 21:38

Freddie ! Nothing else compares

Yes I guess it depends on where you lived/went to school. It's 83% White British now (2021 census) but closer to 100% where I live (rural, coastal Devon).

Those more recent numbers make all the Daily Mail/local Facebook nostalgia groups handwringing and racist bile even more nonsensical.
