I’m getting snacks and drinks in and watching the whole thing while pretending I’m 12 again. Can’t wait for the Quo to kick it off in half an hour! Anyone else gonna watch?

You were definitely miles away if Sting sounded amazing @Middlemarch123😁

He did, really, not a big Sting fan at all, but he was amazing.

HurdyGurdy19 · 12/07/2025 21:25

Dire Straits was the first concert DH and I went to. We've not been to many together as we don't have similar musical tastes. It was an amazing concert. They were superb live.

The phone number for The South was the same as Swap Shop's Grin

The guitar on Brothers In Arms! And David Hepworth on TV - he was a stalwart of the 80s

Jellykat · 12/07/2025 21:26

God even Roger looks young!!!

Oh dear! 🤣

Dire Starits are one of the greatest live bands ever! But then I always liked the ‘proper’ bands who could actually play rather than the pretty boy pop stars. I’m guessing you were the other way round?

I'm sorry, I'm sure they're v good musicians, they just didn't move me in any way..Each to their own tho, ay?😁

Big difference between 9 and late teens/early 20s which is the group I was referring to.

Edited

Had my mum and dad been born 10 years earlier they would have been born in 1941 and still wouldn’t have been serving in WW2. They would have been very small children.

Loved Swap Shop.

My sister saw Queen at Knebworth - the one gig I really regret not seeing.

SwedishEdith · 12/07/2025 21:27

I was too young the first time around so loving it!

Music was never quite as good once the 90's came along.

This is amusing, because everyone on the 90's threads swear that THAT was the epitome of good music and that everything has gone downhill since then. I guess it's true that everyone thinks the soundtrack to their youth is the best (myself included, straddling mid 80's to early 90's)

socialdilemmawhattodo · 12/07/2025 21:27

Just started watching last few mins. God it is bringing back memories. I was 20 - digging on some archaeological site in mid England, so we were listening on radio only. But Dire Straits - they were amazing live. Can't wait to see the rest!

Jellykat · 12/07/2025 21:28

So did I. They were fab.

Utterlyexhausted · 12/07/2025 21:28

To anyone there, how’d you go to the loo? I’m guessing no one had a drink so most were probably dehydrated by today’s standards!

StarCourt · 12/07/2025 21:29

Love Christie Hynde’s voice

Kattley · 12/07/2025 21:29

The war itself had a pen fetch + men away at war didn’t start having children 7ntil much later. Look, I can see lots of people didn’t have parents in the war, but I did and so did several of my friends.

Appalonia · 12/07/2025 21:30

On the doc last week, it showed that after Bowie introduced the song by The Cars, with the devastating footage, was the moment that the donations really took off.
