I’m getting snacks and drinks in and watching the whole thing while pretending I’m 12 again. Can’t wait for the Quo to kick it off in half an hour! Anyone else gonna watch?

I was 9 in 1985. My mum was 33. That was the average amongst my friends. Our parents were all born post WW2.

Big difference between 9 and late teens/early 20s which is the group I was referring to.

Itisallgoingtobeok · 12/07/2025 21:20

@thenightsky a 1am finish and a 5am get up will be ok... won't it?
@Jellykat and @Shetlands - That's what's stopping me from going to sleep yet!

springintoaction321 · 12/07/2025 21:21

Sultans of Swing - boring then, still boring now

Nonsense, one of the best guitar tunes ever. Nothing else like it.

Anyone remember how people bought the tickets for Live Aid? Dh and I can't recall.

My Dad got them as he worked for a firm that did something to do with the electrics for the concert. He didn't actually work on that project but his boss didn't want to go so gave him the tickets.

Middlemarch123 · 12/07/2025 21:21

I was there.
Im the one in the Spurs shit, and Kim Wilde hair.
Don’t remember half of it, so good to reminisce.
They all looked so tiny, they were miles away, I was down on the pitch, on my boyfriend’s shoulders. He looked a lot like George Michael. We split shortly after this, probably because I dislocated his shoulder! Happy days, but where the hell did all those years go? Stings voice was amazing, I remember that.

Who else did you think would be there in huge numbers? In 1985, the percentage of people identifying as White British in England and Wales was 95%.

That's shocking - I remember the UK being much more diverse (although went to boarding school, where the mix of nationalities was probably not representative)

Queen are on soon - you have to stay up for them at least!

It's too hot to sleep anyway.

Middlemarch123 · 12/07/2025 21:22

JaneJeffer · 12/07/2025 21:22

You were definitely miles away if Sting sounded amazing @Middlemarch123😁

Jellykat · 12/07/2025 21:22

Bloody hell, i've munched my way through a whole punnet of Strawberries while this one songs been on!

tobee · 12/07/2025 21:22

I remember really well what everyone was wearing!

I also remember the energy was a bit pffft when most of the US bands were on.

Dh was there, at Wembley, with his little sister. Of course that meant he never really saw it on tv.

Have they cut no 1 soviet band Autograph with the fuck up footage of people picking cherries in an orchard? Boo! if so!!

I was17

Itisallgoingtobeok · 12/07/2025 21:23

@mateysmum - Good point, my sleep is now sacrificed to the nostalgia of Live Aid. 😁

Dire Straits. Still dire...

Nooo, I loved Dire Straits.

U2 and that ridiculous strutting buffoon bored me.

Anyway, Queen on soon.

I’m a bit behind, but Bono strutting up and down in his high heels is making me think of Patrick Star 😂

My dd has asked if it was a prerequisite of playing that the artists had to have a mullet! lol!

Yeah... you've done that kind of night before, as have I. Go for it.

KateShugakIsALegend · 12/07/2025 21:24

That's quite enough of that now

JaneJeffer · 12/07/2025 21:24

Here’s the bit!

Appalonia · 12/07/2025 21:19

Dire Straits. Still dire...

Oh dear! 🤣

Dire Starits are one of the greatest live bands ever! But then I always liked the ‘proper’ bands who could actually play rather than the pretty boy pop stars. I’m guessing you were the other way round?

maddiemookins16mum · 12/07/2025 21:25

I was 20. U2 performing Bad was my highlight. Went out the following Saturday and bought The Unforgettable Fire LP, still have it.

Yes I guess it depends on where you lived/went to school. It's 83% White British now (2021 census) but closer to 100% where I live (rural, coastal Devon).
