I’m getting snacks and drinks in and watching the whole thing while pretending I’m 12 again. Can’t wait for the Quo to kick it off in half an hour! Anyone else gonna watch?

It's just a benchmark for timelines that's all. The end of the war is quite a notable historic date.

Exactly this.

Anyone remember how people bought the tickets for Live Aid? Dh and I can't recall.

There was a phone number where you spoke to a real person, gave your credit card number and they posted the tickets to you.

Itisallgoingtobeok · 12/07/2025 21:15

I've got an early start tomorrow. I keep saying I'll watch one more act then go to bed. This is going to end badly isn't it?

NooNakedJacuzziness · 12/07/2025 21:16

@Jellykat if it was Paul King I'm well jealous

See you at 1am.

HurdyGurdy19 · 12/07/2025 21:16

My son is home for the weekend, so we're watching it together. Switched on late, unfortunatley - Alison Moyet and Paul Young.

I turned down tickets for Live Aid. We were getting married that year and we couldn't justify paying that much for a day at Wembley rather than paying for wedding bits.

I keep looking for my friend, who did go. Not spotted her yet 😂

Jellykat · 12/07/2025 21:16

Sure is @Itisallgoingtobeok Grin the best is yet to come!

Yep, Knopfler & Sting both ex-English teachers, too.

Queen are on soon - you have to stay up for them at least!

Wild. I was 20. DD is 29 NOW and her grandad served in WW2. He was a little older than average, but was 18 when war broke out. Lots of my friends had parents who were old enough. You only needed to be 18 in say 1944 so born in 1926 and 59 in 1985. Surely lots of people in their late teens/20s had a parent (father anyway) who was 59?

I was 9 in 1985. My mum was 33. That was the average amongst my friends. Our parents were all born post WW2.

Is it a documentary or the live aid concert people are watching?

I didn't see the thread until now.

So true

I think that's why Madonna was so groundbreaking at the time. She was really the first global female superstar. And did it on her own terms.

The concert

BlessicaBlimpson · 12/07/2025 21:18

Sultans of Swing - boring then, still boring now

Thejackrussellsrule · 12/07/2025 21:18

This was on my dad's 40th Birthday, I remember i kept dodging back into the house to watch live aid, glad they've put it on tonight, I'm hosting his 80th tomorrow!

Not Paul King, but just as hot to be fair Wink

Appalonia · 12/07/2025 21:19

Dire Straits. Still dire...

SpottyAardvark · 12/07/2025 21:19

I wonder how many of today’s bands could play like Dire Straits? Their entire success was based on being a brilliant live band. It certainly wasn’t on their looks or image…

JaneJeffer · 12/07/2025 21:20

I love Romeo and Juliet

tothelefttotheleft · 12/07/2025 21:20

@JaneJeffer

Thankyou. Was confused cos I went to I player and it's a documentary on the home page.
