I’m getting snacks and drinks in and watching the whole thing while pretending I’m 12 again. Can’t wait for the Quo to kick it off in half an hour! Anyone else gonna watch?

Adam went for a big grey shirt instead of white

It's the same distance between then and now and then and the end of WW2.

Wow - that puts things in perspective

What was happening in London when the American bit was happening? Did they just have it playing on big screens with no one performing live on stage in Wembley?

My DH was there and yes they watched the US acts on screens, he said that actually it made it better as it was 15min between each UK act as the stage was changed.

Jackiebrambles · 12/07/2025 20:49

Never mind the mullet, Bono’s knee high heeled boots, Lordy!

Mnello · 12/07/2025 20:49

Bono makes me smile, remembering a story I read online about U2 in concert in Scotland. He clapped his hands every few seconds and said “everytime I clap my hands a child in Africa dies. Some scottish fella in the crowd shouted “well stop doing it then you evil bxxxd!

Yes. WW2 was still in everyone’s memory because our grandparents fought in the wars. It feels so very long ago now. What’s the saying: those who don’t remember history are doomed to repeat it?

Iamacatslave · 12/07/2025 20:50

Bono’s boots 🤣

cardibach · 12/07/2025 20:50

Adam Ant was awesome. As were the other Ants. I saw them live in the early 80s and they rocked.

SwedishEdith · 12/07/2025 20:50

And I only learned a few weeks ago that the Beach Boys are a) singing hurache sandals and b) that is how you pronounce that word having seen it written down for years.

LadyTangerine · 12/07/2025 20:50

Bono is magnificent isn't he. Those boots though Shock

Evenstar · 12/07/2025 20:50

@SwedishEdith 😳

MissAmbrosia · 12/07/2025 20:50

I was born in 1968 and still think of Beatles/Rolling Stones as OLD music, even though they were still actually going when I was born. Duran Duran is positively modern :)

digiwidgy · 12/07/2025 20:50

If live Aid was today who do you think would perform?

Utterlyexhausted · 12/07/2025 20:51

Ooh anyone see Bono’s boots! I was 11 when this was on but him in his leathers and those boots, very Adam Ant!

My friend (who was there as a teenager) told us last night that, while Madonna was on, the Wembley crowd were busy batting around a massive inflated ball.

Chicheguevara · 12/07/2025 20:51

I have just rewound - do we still say that? - to Paul Young and Alison Moyet. I had to take the dogs out as it’s finally cool enough. Got back in to see U2 when they were great. They will be great again, after Alison Moyet though.

PuppyMonkey · 12/07/2025 20:51

At the time, we didn’t realise how massive U2 would become.

Grandparents? Parents if you were a teen/20 something in 1985!

No filters, no autotune - not sure any of them would be up for it.

JaneJeffer · 12/07/2025 20:53

Everyone getting crushed 😬

SpottyAardvark · 12/07/2025 20:53

Edge, Larry & Adam freestyling while Bono went walkabout. Grin

My grandparents were born in the late 20s and too young to fight in the war. My parents were born in 1949/1951. They were young when I was born.
