I’m getting snacks and drinks in and watching the whole thing while pretending I’m 12 again. Can’t wait for the Quo to kick it off in half an hour! Anyone else gonna watch?

I was at Live 8 in Hyde park in 2005, won free tickets via text. My main memory of it sadly is that there was a time lag between the acts on the screen and the actual sound. Was quite disorienting unfortunately. Wasn't a fan of Robbie Williams, but he was fantastic on stage!

Elderflower14 · 12/07/2025 20:54

Wonder where the Bono girls are now!!??

Not sure I’d call Paul Weller a weak act Grin

Absolutely not...

RoseAylingEllisFanClub · 12/07/2025 20:55

I’m watching it live with sound effects (cochlear implant).

Back then it was the visuals and wonky subtitles on Ceefax, with a lot of help from the lyrics printed in Smash Hits.

My grandparents were born in the late 20s and too young to fight in the war. My parents were born in 1949/1951. They were young when I was born.

Bl8mey. My dad did the whole shebang, as did many friends’ parents. I was 20.

Illjusthavethebreadsticks · 12/07/2025 20:55

I was 11 very nostalgic, proper pop stars !

Adam Ant was awesome. As were the other Ants. I saw them live in the early 80s and they rocked.

We’re still going out about whether he should have done Ant Music (yes!!!) or Kings of the Wild Frontier for the crowd, or the thing he did.

It helps to be old, I suppose 😀

They were the dogs bollocks but this was not his finest hour or even five minutes

Should have Stand and Deliver or Antmusic

They must have been in their 40s. People aged in a different way back then 😄

Bryan Ferry was 39 at live aid. He looked about 50 😮

SpottyAardvark · 12/07/2025 20:53

Edge, Larry & Adam freestyling while Bono went walkabout. Grin

That bit is so cringe. I remember at the time even 12 year old me thought "Nice idea but you really didnt think it through".

Think he was imagining "Courtney Cox with Bruce Springsteen", didnt pull it off!

MissAmbrosia · 12/07/2025 20:57

Adam Ant was my first love.

ThePoshUns · 12/07/2025 20:58

God I had the biggest crush on Jim Kerr

TheAutumnCrow · 12/07/2025 20:58

digiwidgy · 12/07/2025 20:50

If live Aid was today who do you think would perform?

A load of old crap with auto tune, backing singers, backing musicians and a choir.

WillowTit · 12/07/2025 20:58

never liked u2
did not realise Bono wear high heels and had long hair

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 12/07/2025 20:58

My parents were children during WW2. My Dad did National Service aged 18-20. My grandfather was conscripted into the Fire Service, no picnic, as he was stationed on Clydebank on the outskirts of Glasgow and there was a lot of bombing of the docks.

Is there any subject that the British can't shoehorn a discussion about WWII into?

Whattheduck · 12/07/2025 20:58

Myself and my best friend went with my cousin who at the time worked with Queen
It was amazing
My Dh bought me the box set dvd a few years ago it’s great to put on and reminisce

Nope.

And it turns out I am one of them 😁

MissAmbrosia · 12/07/2025 20:59

Oh Simple Minds - this is a great song. Breakfast Club vibes and all

JaneJeffer · 12/07/2025 20:59

Went to Simple Minds last year and DS1 couldn’t understand how they were selling out stadiums Grin

Evenstar · 12/07/2025 21:00

@cardibach my DF was born 1934, one of his brothers served he was much younger than his siblings My DM was born in 1938, her DF served in WW1 and married my grandma in the 1920’s so she and her siblings were too young to serve in WW2. I don’t think any of my school friends had parents who served in WW2.

Kings of the Wild Frontier did have the awesome double drum burundi sound

DisplayPurposesOnly · 12/07/2025 21:01

Grandparents? Parents if you were a teen/20 something in 1985!

Definitely grandparents. I was 17 in 1985, my parents were 37-38. Admittedly they were young parents but my friends' older parents were still not old enough to have served in WWII!

Saw them in Brussels a few years ago and they were good, but not stadium worthy to be fair.

MissAmbrosia · 12/07/2025 21:03

Jim had much less hair
