I’m getting snacks and drinks in and watching the whole thing while pretending I’m 12 again. Can’t wait for the Quo to kick it off in half an hour! Anyone else gonna watch?

My husband has pointed out that it's twice as long from Live Aid to now as it was from the Beach Boys releasing these songs to Live Aid. Gulp.

LTB.

PyongyangKipperbang · 12/07/2025 20:41

I watched or listened to every moment, I was 12.

I bought a DVD boxset of it and its amazing has it all on there and extras, interviews etc.

MissAmbrosia · 12/07/2025 20:41

The crowd have woken up for U2

ImWearingPantaloons · 12/07/2025 20:41

What was happening in London when the American bit was happening? Did they just have it playing on big screens with no one performing live on stage in Wembley?

JaneJeffer · 12/07/2025 20:41

Bono was on that documentary saying how he can’t watch himself with the mullet. Compared to his current hairdo it looks amazing!

Uk has Noel Edmonds and the States have Jack Nicholson 😄

Just said this exact thing to DH! 🤣 Another big white shirt on the edge

Kattley · 12/07/2025 20:42

Say what you want about u2 but they know how to work a crowd

JaneJeffer · 12/07/2025 20:42

Oh no everyone is arriving home to ruin my enjoyment

I think so. The diamond screens (cutting edge technology at the time) relayed what was going on.

They were brilliant live even if Bono is a PITA

Nooo! Send them all to bed immediately...😂

Evenstar · 12/07/2025 20:44

Regarding the phones DH and I went to see Ludovico Einaudi at Co-op Live and phones had to be put away and staff were enforcing it. It was such a pleasant change to see people just enjoying a performance.

MissAmbrosia · 12/07/2025 20:44

I did see U2 twice at Wembley and they were amazing, but it was probably around 10 years after LiveAid.

SpottyAardvark · 12/07/2025 20:44

This performance gave U2s career a massive boost. Two years later they released The Joshua Tree & became the biggest band in the world. Me & my friends queued up to buy the album on the day it was released. Never done that before or since.

I was 20 in my second year at uni and had to get a coach to Doncaster for my cousin’s wedding, my brother got on the same coach further up the M1. We were both really fed up as we wanted to watch it (would probably have gone if we hadn’t had to go to the wedding 😔)

To make matters worse we were staying at my Grandma’s that night and she made everyone go to bed and turned the TV off as the house was full, including mattresses in the hall and she was sleeping on the sofa!

Really enjoying the music and memories and the acts I saw live at other concerts.

Oh that’s so sad Sad

The beach boys look old even then

They must have been in their 40s. People aged in a different way back then 😄

But they’re over 20

Appalonia · 12/07/2025 20:46

JaneJeffer · 12/07/2025 20:45

But they’re over 20

Tell them shush, they're witnessing history...😁

digiwidgy · 12/07/2025 20:46

I am on catch up but Alison Moyet. I'd forgotten what a fabulous singer is is.

MissAmbrosia · 12/07/2025 20:47

Yes - Bono was not a global superstar in 1985

Raahh · 12/07/2025 20:47

I'm starting to feel really sweaty ,the more I see all these people in leather trousers.

PluckyBamboo · 12/07/2025 20:47

I was too young the first time around so loving it!

Music was never quite as good once the 90's came along.

SwedishEdith · 12/07/2025 20:48

It's the same distance between then and now and then and the end of WW2.

TheAutumnCrow · 12/07/2025 20:48

Found you! I’m still giving DP grief about his ridiculous admiration OR WHATEVER YOU CALL IT IN DSM-5 THESE DAYS about the horror that was Adam Ant.

Prince fucking Charming my arse.
