'I thought she was a bit direct with Miranda about the food'

I really liked that actually. She was assertive rather than passive aggressive, which is admirable. Miranda was well out of order helping herself to Carrie's stuff

I liked that too.Surely everyone knows basic common manners, not to take the last one of anything?!

PurplebeadedFendi · 01/07/2025 08:17

To me the food taking seemed very out of character for normally cautious Mirandav- or the Miranda of SATC. She must have spent years yelling at Steve and Brady for eating the last X from the fridge. Also I don't buy her walking around naked in her own house, let alone as a guest in someone else's home. And yet we saw her making a phone call whilst on the toilet in a previous episode too. It's all part of the reframing of her character now she's no longer straight, I think.

And also the food selfishness is plainly a plot device (and a lame one) because the writers must have known the viewers would be scratching their heads over Miranda being in temporary accommodation, while Carrie lives in a many roomed mansion alone. And obviously Semma now has a purposeful plot, to put her realtor licence to the test, slumming it finding a 2 bed in Manhattan, for a cash buying human rights lawyer. The shame!

I'm seeing Seema and Miranda having a "comedy" reality check about what she's able to buy and what Seema has to try to sell in her new, low brow career. A bit reminiscent of what Carrie went through when she thought she had to leave her apartment in SATC post Aiden - before she emotionally blackmailed Charlotte into giving her the ring/money for the deposit. Generosity is a one way street for Carrie. I would not get huffy with a friend who had helped me so much over the years over a yoghurt.

CowTown · 01/07/2025 08:31

I didn’t understand who Miranda thought the yogurt and banana were for? “Oh, I didn’t realise that was your yogurt, and your banana…I didn’t think you ate yogurt or bananas!” Really? Carrie lives on her own! Who was the food for? “The kids”? Carrie has no kids and no spouse!

I hate the way they make Miranda (a Harvard graduate, no less) seem so thick in AJLT.

Doubleraspberry · 01/07/2025 08:34

If the show was remotely anchored to reality Miranda would have used one of the many fast grocery delivery options to get breakfast as soon as she saw the empty fridge. Or had what was in the fridge but immediately offered to replace it and more once Carrie emerged. Because that’s how sensible women in their 50s behave.

PurplebeadedFendi · 01/07/2025 09:02

Both spot on @CowTown and @Doubleraspberry . Like I said, such an odd plot device to ensure Miranda doesn't stay at Carrie's house.

Do Miranda and Carrie even like each other? Do the writers even like Carrie? When Carrie was telling the ladies at lunch about Mr Cake downstairs and Miranda chipped in with her story about her noisy neighbour, Carrie's reaction was something like, "What's that got to do with me?" In SATC, the cafe interactions were all about them trading their "war" stories and laughing/sympathising with one another. It's as if the writers are acknowledging what a self centered character Carrie always was (when it came to her friends in particular) which has been stripped of her former saving graces of charm/humour/ cuteness in this latest iteration. The clattering around in high heels was another thing. I mean she got very annoyed at the noise her downstairs neighbour Lissette and her friends were making, but is dismissive her own annoyance to her downstairs neighbour. Zero empathy, bags of entitlement, she's only sympathetic to him once she finds him attractive.

I know what you mean. I liked that they are close enough that they could be so direct and honest too.

Eldermileniummam · 01/07/2025 09:36

I agree @PurplebeadedFendi

I think the argument over food was just a plot device and I can't see Miranda not realising the yogurt was Carrie's and after Carrie getting annoyed about the yogurt and banana also taking the Coke.

The shoe thing is annoying Carrie.

Also when Carrie asked Miranda to take her shoes off even though she had hers on!!

Yes, because Carrie knows how to walk quietly now, apparently. Whereas she thinks Miranda is what, an elephant thumping around who doesn't understand "be quiet"instructions? Oh, and she had to buy cheap temporary runners that aren't her perfect fit for her fairy castle! The sacrifice!

Doubleraspberry · 01/07/2025 09:41

But the whole scenario made no sense. Carrie just sounded rude and Miranda looked stupid.

PurplebeadedFendi · 01/07/2025 09:46

I'm going to have slight sympathy with Carrie on the Coke. I don't know what a Mexican coke is, but there's a particular full sugar, no caffeine Coke I've only ever found in Mallorca. I don't drink caffeine, and Coke was always my go to whenever under the weather. So anyone else touching my Mallorca stash is getting a hard stare!

She lives in NYC! I bet she could get a load more in minutes.

In fact, I think this show has probably raised awareness as this was the third google result. :-)

Mexican Coke is a definite thing, and it’s a BIG DEAL. And Miranda would know this, especially because the Coke was in a tall glass bottle, which you just don’t find in US Cokes (and Miranda admitted to drinking it with her Mexican takeaway). But apparently the newer, thicker, Miranda wouldn’t be capable of understanding why you don’t drink the last Mexican Coke.

PurplebeadedFendi · 01/07/2025 10:01

Ah, thank you both on the Mexican Coke knowledge! So Carrie's isn't left having to book a ticket to Cancun to replenish her stash. No need for the drama then!

My kids are always comparing the quality and colour Fanta orange relative to the UK whenever we travel, so regional differences are clearly a big thing. I guess local regulations on colour and flavour additives are part of it. I'm always surprised at the amount of sugar in everything in the "healthy" Mediterranean, but I guess that could be a heat/preservative issue.

GellerYeller · 01/07/2025 20:48

To be fair I always think coke tastes better from a glass bottle, even if it is a, more expensive and b, just the UK version.

Piffle11 · 01/07/2025 21:10

So now I’m desperate to try Mexican Coke…

EmeraldRoulette · 01/07/2025 23:56

I haven't seen the episode yet so I don't know if it's the same

But I had Mexican Coke in a bar this afternoon. It's nice.

in case this helps anyone…I found my missing episode 4 by using the Sky Go app instead 😄

Ah good I’m glad!
I have been watching Divorce. It’s quite strange as it seems serious but with Horgan’s writing it’s hard to tell. Not sure if it’s because it’s American but it’s not quite landing.

KeepCalmAndPretendItIsOnTheLessonPlan · 03/07/2025 22:44

I watched all three series of Divorce. It is drama rather than comedy. Not even dramedy.
I found it was quite depressing and bleak for the main part.

greengreyblue · 04/07/2025 06:15

The Robert character is quite awkward and funny and I can see Horgan’s irony ( psychiatrist Dallas having a breakdown) and the farcical nature of the near shooting at the party etc but Frances(SJP) is very serious and there’s no humour there at all I really don’t buy that she was in an affair with Julian! Really? Is that the comedy element? I’m at the Christmas episode of series 1.

Netaporter · 04/07/2025 07:38

S3E6

spoilers ahead

An excellent episode I thought. Writers are back to their best. Something for everyone - fashion, Tiffany’s and Bitsy VM 👏

I also cried a LOT. As someone who managed to get to both parents bedside when they passed, I could completely understand LTW’s guilt. As a mother, the guilt of something unexpected inevitably happening the minute you turn your phone off is also relatable - but I loved the subtlety of the fact she’d only turned her phone off because of her crush on Marian.

If Carrie doesn’t bin off Aidan now, she never will. Absolutely did not buy the fact that having bought an apartment (having got rid of her own beloved place) to house Aidan and his kids she was about to go off and sleep with other people for the next 5 years…. Utter nonsense and fanciful behaviour by the writers... That said, At least they managed a dig by depicting Aidan applying hair loss serum and giving him a ridiculous trouser storyline. As if. I assumed he’d packed one of his kids suits by accident (I once turned up to a 9am start Saturday funeral in rural Scotland in winter only to find DH had put our then 18mth old’s black tights in my drawer rather than hers… and guess whose tights I had packed 😂)

Apart from S1E1, I don’t think I’ve ever cried so much during an episode Charlotte 😭

The funeral and Jennifer Lewis’ portrayal of the theatre manager was just genius. The funeral was up there with Liza Minnelli at Anthony and Stanford’s big fat gay wedding. Herbert’s Mum 👏👏

Miranda has definitely got the best story arc this season and who doesn’t love an Italian Greyhound? Polar opposite to my own humongous dog.

Seema definitely rocking the fashion this series. Loved her waving goodbye to the now unsaleable brown S Class… forget the fact it was bad enough it was brown, she can revel in the fact that now she’s smoked in it, it’s going nowhere ever on a dealership forecourt 😂

EachandEveryone · 04/07/2025 10:55

Oh I’m looking forward to this. No soaps this week so I’ll save it up for the weekend. With a takeaway. Even in London it’s hard to get a decent Mexican take away. I will think of something else.

EachandEveryone · 04/07/2025 10:57

I’ve gone to four different sites and all Mexican Coke sold out!

PurplebeadedFendi · 04/07/2025 11:02

SPOILERS!!

Typing and watching, typing and watching (read that in an Anthony voice).

Mutton stew- really? And Carrie will be pontificating on Duncan's political biography of Margaret Thatcher with exactly what qualifications? Critiquing her pussy bow blouses or something? Poor Duncan having to read her dreadful, Henry James-lite sounding novel.

Charlotte's blue wrap dress - perfection on her! More fashion like this for Charlotte, please!

Miranda and Joy - I am loving them together. I feel this is the partnership of respectful equals Miranda always deserved. Joy's dogs are gorgeous!

Seema - looked gorgeous. Her new career is slumming it with those who can only afford to pay $150k over asking price. Will she be rich enough to stay in the group much longer, I wonder? Or will there be a rich man coming along soon to rescue her like all the others?

Mitzy V-M. Always a joy to see her.

Aiden forcing Wyatt to go to Wyoming unsupervised. He'll probably be hooking up with other would-be school shooters.

Oh no, I called it! Lisa's father died twice! Very sad though. I know how she feels, I missed seeing my dad before he passed away by just 30 minutes.

Loved Charlotte and Harry. I feel like the spirit of the old Harry has returned. He doesn't want to grow old and die prematurely, which is what his persona has been like up until now.

Aiden is a bore. I wonder if the post-it note is a deliberately placed bad omen for his future with Carrie (harking back to Berger).

Tiffanys! Loved Charlotte's dress, never seen someone rocking horizontal strips so well. She's looking so much better this episode! Carrie has started dressing like her Victorian-era novel character. Loved Bitzy all in orange.

Loved Miranda in her Gareth Southgate waistcoat ensemble. She looked very chic. Nice to see Brady looking happy, being charming and not whinging like all the other children in this show. Still loving Joy. She's confirming my theory that some people get dogs who resemble them. In her case, elegant and pointy.

Aiden slept with Kathy. FFS, the wanker! Although my "wicked witch" theory of Kathy, undermining Princess Carrie's happiness, comes to fruition. Carrie's reaction and revelation that she didn't agree to monogamy is very interesting. It shows that the whole thing was just some fairy tale fantasy role play for her (or the writers) and/or the writers have realised what a ridiculous, boring and limiting idea the 5 year plot line has been.

The funeral party all looked wonderful, apart from Aiden and his bloody suit. How has Carrie not got the ick with him? Really felt for Lisa trying to do her eulogy and feeling guilty. Herbert saved the day, and a lovely moment with his mother.

Lovely and heartbreaking to see Carrie supporting Charlotte and Charlotte being able to let go of everything she's been holding in.

Overall a very enjoyable episode, setting it up for Carrie to shag Duncan. Happy days!

I found you guys at last!! I looked at the beginning of season 3 and couldn't find the thread.

Anyhoo, the thing that shocks me the most is how skint Seema is, she was certainly rinsing those company perks!
