I’ve been in hospital all week so I have two episodes to catch up on. I’ve avoided spoilers and will be back tonight.

I’m sad to say he looks and sounds very much like a friend of mine who died last year, which I found extremely distracting.

Jonathon Cake/Duncan did nothing for me. The most enticing thing about him was being called ‘cake’.

Have rewatched the supposed ‘finale’. As we’ve all said before there’s no way this was written with an ending in mind. And as for MPK saying in one of the numerous articles linked to above, that they’d left the storylines open for fanfic to pick up on and expand is both laughable and insulting to viewer intelligence.

Anyway. It wasn’t as atrocious on a second watch if viewed as a solitary episode. To try to expunge the memory from my brain, though, I went back and rewatched An American Girl in Paris, Part Deux. And even though I’ve seen it so many times I suppose I’d forgotten that Carrie steps in shit, so maybe the shit scene was indeed a throwback to that!

Has anyone got the dates and where to view (Now?) for the final episodes? I think there were two is that right?

My fan theory about Miranda and Mia is that this is an echo of Miranda and Steve’s Mum.

Twice Mia said “you didn’t ask me” about the rice and cheese. Mia feels unheard and the reference to her own mother cutting her off Facebook is a clue that Mia wants a loving, stable family for her baby. Otherwise, why even go to Thanksgiving? She will soon grow tired of her silly friends when the baby arrives. Miranda has proved time and time again that she will literally wallow in shit to look after the people she loves. I think Mia will let Miranda the hands on Gran that she won’t get from her own mother and their future looks secure.

Miranda is very annoying but when the shit hits the fan you can always rely on her to do the right thing.

No way would Ben Stiller's daughter ( and the granddaughter of the actress who played Mary, Steve's mum) sign up for a screen time of only 15 minutes. She was meant to continue in S 4, which got cancelled.

Yes but in fairness to Ben Stiller, he has a decent body of work. And in fairness to his daughter, the casting was because of her gran having been in it. Same as young Sheldon's mum is daughter of the actress playing same part in BBT.

What I think should have happened (feel free to add your own!)

Carrie:
Should have binned Aiden much much earlier, obvs. We could have done without the whole Aiden storyline, other than maybe a brief fling, where she realises that she doesn't love him at all and his family is too complicated for her, Carrie doesn't do families really. They could have shown her mid 50s writing career (which wouldn't involve a stupid mid century narvel) she could have been writing about dating and sex in your fifties / as a widow / fashion, anything but the stupid novel. The Carrie we knew would have furnished the house beautifully with a massive wardrobe and proper writing space. She should have met the downstairs neighbour naturally, as they shared a garden, without the stupid storyline about her shoes on a wooden floor. If he was going to be English, they should have left out the outdated stereotypes: pipe and mutton and writing about Thatcher, totally ridiculous. And Big should have been mentioned, as should her grief, do they think we've forgotten the whole love affair, marriage and death?

Miranda:
Should have been much more ruthless with Brady and his bloody sex life. I'd be fine with her deciding to be gay in her fifties but they should have left out Che (OBVS!) and the bumbling around not knowing how to talk to black people. Totally unbelievable. She went to Harvard! She was a shit hot lawyer! I'd have liked to see her navigating a legal career in her fifties. She also was a shit friend to Carrie in AJLT which she wasn't in the series. Also, Steve, I'd have thought they'd have had a better relationship after all these years, the dinner they had in the last episode where they talked about grandchildren was nice though.

Charlotte:
Massively underutilised. She's got a happy marriage, why didn't they show more of that? And the Rock stuff was irritating beyond belief.

Seema:
Underused. And not a substitute for Samantha.

Menopause - not mentioned, WTAF? Really?
Anthony, not enough of him
Stanford, never mentioned
Lisa TW - who cares
Nyah - likewise

I’m desperate to know what happens to Kathy’s boyfriend! Does he find out that Kathy shagged Aidan? Does he dump her, or do they work it out?

Do Anthony and Giuseppe get married? If so, how do you top Liza Minnelli as your entertainment? And the swans? Does Patti LuPone do a number?

I’d presume that Aidan, being bitter that his relationship with Carrie is over, would spill the beans during one of their heated family gatherings.

Surely not quite the same thing - is Brady meant to want to sleep with her because she looks like his dead grandmother? 😆

In amongst my snark podcasts I've found one that actually thinks this was not a bad episode (although even they don't go so far to think it's a good final ever episode). I'm quite shocked anyone could see this as anything other than a mess.

I’ve watched the last one now. Have pretty much hate watched the programme but did like this series the best. I felt this last ep wrapped up the storylines better than last eps of previous series had, but agree that it felt incomplete and rushed as the last ep ever. Just glad that big was mentioned and that Carrie didn’t end up with aiden.

in some way I liked the fact that we don’t know what will happen with Brady and Mia etc, and whether or not Carrie will end up with someone. Felt like the main characters had at least found their direction even if their stories may not be complete.

Nya: The actress Karen Pittman ran off to film The Morning Show. Where she has a much better role.

'Menopause - not mentioned, WTAF? Really?'

It was mentioned in one episode of the first season. Charlotte gets a flash period while wearing white overalls and painting the community centre, and there was a brief mention of hot flushes. But it did feel like they had ticked that box and then moved on, whereas we know that menopause is a big part of a woman's life for many years

She had a lead role in Netflix's version of Forever too.

There's been no explanation of where Nya or Che went to, even though they were bessies that were invited to Carrie's special dinner a few months ago.

Watched no. 11, what a non-episode…

Carrie buys pies & goes back to her apartment.
Everything else was totally forgettable.

Seema “I love you” should have been exciting!
Like when Charlotte met Harry again. A moment.

Bracing myself for no.12. Sad AJLT wasn’t better.

I’ve just watched the last one. Seeing all the reviews I was not sure what to expect but I thought it was going to be “shit“, it was actually better than I thought it was going to be. I thought there were some really nice moments in it, the bit between Carrie and Seema the fashion show and the bit with Charlotte and LTW as well were both nice. I thought the comedy bit of Charlotte and Harry going off to have sex was actually quite well done and I thought the reflections of Carrie in terms of being on her own but not alone were actually quite quite poignant - seeing her drop the pies off showed she had a circle of love around her.

The toilet bit was totally unnecessary and the Brady‘s girlfriend’s friends characters were dreadful, dreadful parodies.

I don’t know if it was cancelled but I can see how they thought it could end there. Overall though it doesn’t make up for the dreadful storylines from the last three seasons.
