That article with quotes from John made me laugh when he said Lawrence Llewelyn-Bowen had given him really good advice about not doing too much, just concentrating on getting a good quality finish. Bit ironic given John spent most of the series failing to finish and skimping on things.

He’s a nice guy but I hated the much-awaited wallpaper that he stuck up in the wall in a frame (why??), loathed that acid-yellow wallpaper in the design of those open-work concrete blocks you see everywhere in grim 50s architecture, and I thought the two shades of blue in his bedroom clashed horrendously.

However, Rita threw it all away by painting everything in pink, yellow and orange. No idea what came over her. She was capable of so much better.

(I’m afraid I’m not very enthused by the John Lewis range either. It all looks a bit dull and corporate)

I think his range will appeal to a lot of people as it is largely black and white, so can fit with a lot of other colours. I'm not a huge fan of monochrome, but I quite like what he has come up with. I would have been interested in what Craig or Ayesha would have designed. I liked Ayesha's sunny/warm style.

Not familiar with the Reno show?

Wasn’t it LL-B who did Changing Rooms where even with careful camera work the shoddy mess never looked good or finished off?

I don’t much like the monochrome range. Agree its a bit corporate but its stylistically quite neutral - very John Lewis. What I don’t know is how much of John is in that range or how much was a template to which he contributed. I can’t imagine JL or last year’s prize are going to give a free hand to novice designers rather than letting them contribute in return for the publicity.

Yes I wonder if they said it needs to have this chair but he can pick fabric, 2 candles, 1 bath mat etc

and the candles he just had a choice and picked the packaging (plain black🤨)

Much as Craig's arrogance annoyed me and I'm pretty sure he thought he was going to win because he was very much ticking boxes until he ran short of boxes in the semi-finals and got kicked out by his own lack of vision - not saying he had no vision but it failed him in the semi-final, I think either he or Rita would be better in at John Lewis. Did John design the chair? I thought he did just accesories and stuff like that. I thought what he did was okay but boring. I wouldn't be rushing to buy anything. Craig's stuff would have been JL but brighter and more fun and I might have bought something despite myself. I've bought some LLB stuff, so it's not too far a stretch. Rita would have done something slightly outside their comfort zone but not too far and for things like her baskets, etc I would have been tempted. It's what I liked about her, she would find something and upcycle it in a way that most people would just wouldn't see. Which is also supposed to be part of the Port Merion vibe, re-using and no waste.

I still don't think John deserved the win over the whole series and his continued failures would have seen many other contestants kicked out long before the semis, But it is what it is.
