Or view the collection at John Lewis x John Cooper | John Lewis & Partners

It's not my style, but it's very classy and I think it will sell pretty well.

Soukmyfalafel · 30/05/2025 07:44

Thanks for sharing the link. It did occur to me last night the products would then be released.

I like the designs. Maybe a little bit to monochrome for me. I can't see anyone buying the full range as it would feel like you are stuck inside an analogue TV when you couldn't find a channel. The chair and bed throws and cushions are pretty cool though and I think would appeal to a lot of people. I was expecting a bit more furniture design rather than furnishings. I wonder what Rita would have come up with if she won as she did spend a lot of time sourcing antique/preloved stuff.

I bet his wife is concerned a little, but probably relieved its all over as it must have been harsh working, planning then doing the show. I think that's why everyone is a bit excitable in their interactions with Alan. It probably is too much coffee. You can tell they just want him to bugger off so they can get on with it.

Doingmybest12 · 30/05/2025 07:45

Wonder if they had a choice in who helped them as having Craig was definitely more of an advantage I would say.

Maybe John Lewis just liked his name and thats why he won? 😂

Chrysanthemum5 · 30/05/2025 08:30

Based purely on the final
Show I think John was the right choice but he was very lucky to make it to the final.

Rita is a great designer but she made so many mistakes with that last design. To be fair though both cottages were in poor condition and needed way too much remedial work which they didn't have time or budget for

John did not buy enough wallpaper, did not check where his statement wallpaper was coming from. I wonder if he is that dozy in his real life as he seems to be throughout this. This series is very weak.

i cannot understand Rita’s take on the kitchen. Just stick some bland pink paint everywhere. If she has painted the doors in a different colour, she might have won. That and not putting a throw on those hideous black chairs.

i agree about how boring the places were before.

Soukmyfalafel · 30/05/2025 08:37

In terms of what they had been given they did pretty well, although I suppose it was a proper blank canvas.

I'm not someone who holidays anywhere posh or exotic (my own house isn't that great either to be fair) but they were pretty depressing to start with.

Whoooo · 30/05/2025 08:38

John won because Rita's flat was awful.
Final was hers to lose imo.
Horrendous orange stairway (which the judges loved!) She did nothing in the kitchen, really.
The black chairs were wrong.
John's was far too busy for me, but he's learnt the most. I thought that salmon pink bedroom was hideous.
Far too much furniture in what was a very small space.
I think Michelle makes some odd decisions.

Whoooo · 30/05/2025 08:57

I think Craig was the best designer of the lot

Victoriawould24 · 30/05/2025 09:03

Thankyou @MarmiteWine

Im sure John had a huge input into the candles in his collection 💅🏼

Bruisername · 30/05/2025 09:28

Other than the fabric design I can imagine he was quite guided. As pp said - did he really get involved in candle design

the canvas wall prints are odd

FloppySarnie · 30/05/2025 10:04

I think John hit the brief better because his design was very in keeping with the whole Port Meirion vibe. If you haven’t been there, you might not appreciate that aspect of it but it did feel very appropriate to me ( get dragged there every year!).

Bruisername · 30/05/2025 10:06

I think it was a poor final tbh as the spaces were difficult and it was only picked because the location was so lovely

I don’t know if I really enjoyed this series tbh. When I watched on catch up I must have FF half at least

Bsmirched · 30/05/2025 11:39

Either Portmeirion haven't updated their website, or they've got rid of the designers' input completely?

Bruisername · 30/05/2025 11:48

Interesting! The cottages have extra bedrooms which they obviously didn’t have time for but would make the place look weird if just one was left different

disappointing challenge for the final tbh. I thought John had a much nicer space and more natural light which always helps. I think it is better in the final if they have the same space

Victoriawould24 · 30/05/2025 12:32

very odd you’d think they’d be keen to link it in for promotion purposes, it can’t have been easy to repaint all the orange back to white and remove all the panelling etc.

Bruisername · 30/05/2025 12:42

It’s also a false premise - they praised John for using the tile stickers to save time

but how many interior design jobs have such a restrictive budget and window to be done in?

MissMarplesNiece · 30/05/2025 12:43

"I agree the houses were god awful before hand, less homely than the hostels from the first week and like some kind of facility run by social services- embarrassing for Portmerian."
I was really surprised at how uninviting and utilitarian they looked before they were decorated. I always thought the self catering there would be quirky but luxurious. I'd be disappointed if I'd booked that. It made me wonder if Portmerian had pre-prepared blank canvases for the contestants.

Bruisername · 30/05/2025 12:50

Both of those cottages sleep 6 but the living space can’t really handle that many comfortably. Especially if all adults

placemats · 30/05/2025 15:03

Loved Rita's cottage and she should have won. Would love to know where she got the wallpaper for the dining room because I just love it.

Congratulations to John, had a feeling he would win but I won't be buying the design items from John Lewis. Not even when it's discounted.

imfae · 30/05/2025 17:02

I must admit thinking it over , I did find the final a bit disappointing . Whilst I think John deserved to win for that task- I didn’t really love either of their designs . I don’t know if it is less exciting at this stage anyway , as the final 2 are usually good anyway .
When they brought all the contestants back I realised that I didn’t remember a few that had got knocked out in the first weeks .

Bruisername · 30/05/2025 17:06

I would prefer the final if they had identical spaces because then you can see how they approach it differently

johns master bedroom had such a great view his room was much easier I thought

In the chats with friends and family last night Craig was featured in his Hastings Beach hut chatting with Maria McErlane, Graham Norton's big buddy.

Craig's upstairs bar had a tiled top coffee table, G Plan ... I have the smaller one of these (9 tiles) in my garage under a load of junk https://huntvintage.co/furniture/tables/coffee-table/coffee-table-g-plan-ceramic-tile-top-70s-mid-century?srsltid=AfmBOor79ZrVaX_8kOBSu38yBTMp3plRbxMXgiEtqp2RHKa1vo9TvTQO
wonder what that's worth!

Agree with the love for Banjo .. he was a judge on a TV show Best Scottish Christmas House which was madly entertaining viewing. 2024 is available on BBC Scotland still (Scotland's Home of the Year).

Wow that coffee table was a blast from the past, my mum and dad had one and I can remember dancing the can can on it when I was about 7!!

jantour · 30/05/2025 19:50

Has it been mentioned anywhere that John's sister is actress Claire Cooper? I was looking at John's IG today and saw his story repostings and one was from her. I wonder if they are close. I scrolled back as far as I had time for on his IG and didn't see her in any photos.
