Robson Green and Jason Watkins go toe-to-toe in The Game trailer
A retired detective believes he's found a twisted stalker – but is he just deluding himself?

It was called catch you later and changed to the game

Set to debut on 5, the psychological drama will air its first episode on Monday 12 May at 9pm, with the remaining episodes set to follow that same week (via Radio Times (https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/drama/jason-watkins-robson-green-game-air-date-newsupdate/)).

Jason Watkins and Robson Green star in the suspenseful trailer for upcoming 5 drama The Game (https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/drama/jason-watkins-robson-green-game-air-date-newsupdate/), which finds a former
detective locked in psychological warfare with a man he believes to be a notorious stalker.

Huw Miller (Watkins) retired from the police force with one major career regret: failing to catch the so-called Ripton Stalker, who would torment his victims before ultimately murdering them.

When an enigmatic stranger named Patrick Harbottle (Green) moves in next door, Huw starts to think that the criminal who eluded him for so many years might now be operating right under his nose.

The synopsis reads: "As Huw attempts to settle into retirement, the case is never far from his mind – and when new neighbour Patrick Harbottle (Green) moves in and utters the chilling phrase 'catch you later' – the sign-off the stalker used to taunt Huw during the investigation –

Huw is determined he’s finally got his man.
"What follows is a high stakes game of psychological chess between the two neighbours as Huw’s world begins to crumble around him.

"Unable to bear the guilt of the stalker taking another victim under his nose, Huw risks everything to unearth the truth.

But has he set his sights on the right man, or is his obsession pushing him ever closer to the brink?"

Does Huw die? Assume not. Alice wasn’t doing a very good job of putting pressure on the wound though.
Sureky he would have dialled 999 not Jenny’s phone when he realised Patrick was there.
It was ok and there was plenty of tension, but like all 5 dramas, had more holes than a colander.

Yes was tense and gripping but omg the holes. Surely they'd have had police protection for starters and why didn't any of them have ring doorbells or basic security.
I also think someone else could've been applying pressure rather than leaving her to it.
Quite liked it though.

Blondeshavemorefun · 15/05/2025 23:01

so was Patrick

but a bad ending. Too many loose ends and rushed imo

why Wasn’t both Their houses watched or a policeman on duty

he snuck in with a photo

how did Patrick get into huws house

ill Call an ambulance - yet Patrick had been walked out to the car and handcuffed 🙄

surely 999 and ambulance would have been the first thing she would have done after she saw him stabbed

sitting up propped while bleeding from chest. Worst thing ever Should have been flat with feet raised and yes the pathetic pressure on his wound 🙄

I assume he died. Happy. Caught the killer

did he kill Frank so could be near huw

silly daughter going to the workshop

silly copper going without backup there

it was good till the last few mins.

that was a crap ending

I finish 1.30. Might call into Auntie Pat’s and get money for her shopping, need to get petrol and get prescription from vets if it’s ready so probably pick you up 2ish. I’ll let you know x

Papergirl1968 · 15/05/2025 23:04

Oh god, I thought I was sending a text to my daughter. Ignore last post! 😂

Tho wouldn’t the lady who just does recognise him

and he ‘saved’ her as killer in the wardrobe and he chased and lost him

it was just a feeling I had, not that I sat down and watched the episodes in their entirety. They were playing in the background whilst I did other things and it just felt right to think that.

I suppose we're meant to make out own minds up about the ending, but I thought that was an awful cop-out.

Given that Huw had the police on his side and believing him, it's just ludicrous that he would challenge Patrick to come and find him without having made any prior arrangement for the local cops at least to be on call at all times, and preferably actually on guard.

Clawdy · 16/05/2025 08:36

I assumed Huw died at the end. Yes, surely there would have been police presence on that street to protect Huw once they realised who the killer was. And yes, that ambulance would have been called immediately!

Mintyt · 16/05/2025 12:24

I think Patrick escaped because his face profile disappeared while in the back of the car

JSMill · 16/05/2025 13:03

I did like Jason Watkins in this. I would like to see Sunetra Sarkar in more things.

I decided he died after he was saying about the things they wanted to do and she was saying they would.

I kind of enjoyed it, but it needed more thought and better writing. It had the feel of a first draft with the fine detail yet to be worked through. That's Channel 5 for you.

I'd have liked the twist at the end to be that Huw was setting a trap for Patrick, the police were lying in wait and Huw was wearing a stab vest.

butterpuffed · 16/05/2025 15:13

Well , is Huw Dead or alive < we'll never know.

Why so long to call an ambulance?

Why hadn't Patrick been driven away by the Police at the end, instead of sitting in the car looking smug ?

Why did Huw call Jenny instead of 999 ?

Aaand why does nobody lock any doors in that street 😄

That would be far too sensible.

Gloriia · 17/05/2025 11:05

The way he snuck around houses turning music on etc really crept me out. I was in the kitchen earlier and there was a thud upstairs when no one else was in. I stood there wibbling for a few mins. Took the dog up though and all was clear Grin

pigear · 17/05/2025 11:09

I don't understand how the music box in Ruth's room upstairs kept being opened to play music but somehow Patrick was downstairs, outside her locked front door waiting for her.

LemograssLollipop · 17/05/2025 14:39

What a rubbish ending! Standard ch5 fare.

Jenny's intuition though..... One missed call from Huw and she's getting back up and racing over there with blues and twos. But before then ....... Nothing. Not watching his house 🤣🤣

Glad it was only 4 eps.

Liked the actress playing the daughter.

Papergirl1968 · 17/05/2025 14:50

I wonder why Patrick didn’t kill Jenny, and Huw’s daughter.
So in the recap they think Huw probably survives.
I don’t like inconclusive endings - I prefer everything neatly tied up!

lazymum99 · 17/05/2025 17:41

Just finished. Why do they do this to me. I need a proper conclusion.
it was better than most channel 5 stuff. Still full of holes and stupid decisions

Blondeshavemorefun · 17/05/2025 18:26

Yes sounds like huw survives and maybe Patrick escapes

s2 in a few years 😂

Sadly I think it was just poor overall. But I obviously watched it 😀

TitsInAbsentia · 17/05/2025 23:07

I've just finished this and it was pretty meh...glad it was only 4 eps and not the usual 6-8. Surprised Watkins said yes to this, he's usually in things of a better quality but I guess sometimes it's just a case of the price is right!

Blondeshavemorefun · 18/05/2025 11:15

Or he may be a ch 5 person like ss and the dark haired lady in lots

so they pay them a stash of cash to work for them for a year

like ant and dec and itv
