Fans of the medical thriller series Malpractice (https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/drama/malpractice-season-2-release-date/) have been eagerly awaiting news on when the new season

Been a 2year wait

Season 2 will follow Dr James Ford, played by Those About to Die (https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/drama/those-about-to-die-review/)'s Tom Hughes.

He finds himself under investigation after getting himself "caught between an anxious new mother’s postnatal check-up and the sectioning of a psychotic patient" in a North Yorkshire hospital, according to the show's synopsis.

The synopsis also ask
s: "Is Dr Ford a doctor with a God complex, or a victim himself?"

This season of the ITV drama will welcome a near-completely new cast, (https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/drama/malpractice-season-2-itv-cast-confirmed-newsupdate/) including Selin Hizli (Am I Being Unreasonable?) and Zoë Telford (Red Eye).

Other new additions to the ensemble are Hannah McClean (Blue Lights) and Seraphina Beh (Top Boy) amongst a whole host of new faces.

However, some fan favourites are set to return, with Norma Callahan (Helen Behan) and George Adjei (Jordan Kouamé) confirmed to reprise their roles as part of the Medical Investigation Unit for another season.

The announcement came from ITV, who said of the new series ahead of its release: "As George and Norma uncover a hospital seemingly at war with itself, to what lengths will James go to preserve his position?

"Can the MIU uncover the truth of what happened despite fierce opposition from all sides?"

Oh good lord! 😱

I know it never rains but it pours for old Dr Ford!

Yes, using forceps is cheaper than surgery. Dr Hernandez appears a bit traumatised by forceps deliveries going wrong so automatically wants c sections. Which is actually understandable. Damn, does that mean I'm warming to Dr Hernandez and she's trying to save patients and babies?!

Agree with this.

Hernandez is being thrown under the bus in the maternity unit - pressured to cut rate of c sections and perform unsafe deliveries. Birth injuries are being covered up. Doing the c section on the seizure woman was her going with the gut and doing the right thing, but the seniors hated it.

perhaps the obstetrics dept would have been charged for Rosie’s psych referral, or perhaps she was worried what Rosie would discuss. So that’s why she cancelled it.

Ashlene 🙀🙀 does she actually really like James

Yes I think she's infatuated with him and he knows it so tries to keep his distance.

Bologneselove · 06/05/2025 23:15

Really enjoyed this so binge watched the whole second season over two nights. It is very, vert far fetched though.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 06/05/2025 23:17

Yes, I think Rosie must have had a traumatic birth. She mentioned that she was still in pain at that 6-week check and Hernandez brushed that off as 'some discomfort is to be expected'. I wonder if there's been a post-mortem done on Rosie that would show up an untreated birth injury caused by forceps? Not that would have caused her psychiatric problems, but there's definitely something being covered up.

James was an absolute idiot to examine Aislene with no chaperone present. She's bound to allege he touched her inappropriately and it will be his word against hers. He's been an absolute idiot all round, frankly, but I hope he digs up the dirt on Obstetrics.

PrincessScarlett · 07/05/2025 06:57

Yes something definitely went wrong with Rosie's labour/delivery as otherwise Dr Hernandez wouldn't be threatening Maria about keeping quiet about it.

I've gone from being on Dr Ford's side to thinking what an absolute fool he is. Yes he has the patients best interests at heart but he doesn't help himself by going clubbing with drug users, examining a vulnerable patient without anyone else there, grabbing at Dr Hernandez when he's already under investigation. Others are guilty but Dr Ford is not acting completely professionally.

howcanitbetrue · 07/05/2025 07:30

I think he's in a spiralling situation where absolutely any thing he does is wrong. And it just gets worse and worse. And he can't get out.

Whilst I appreciated the drama ref the scissor hunt it did occur to me that we'd have the same carryon looking for scissors at my place of work (not a hospital).

Weepixie · 07/05/2025 07:34

I watched the first episode but it made me very nervous for the Dr and I don’t think I can watch anymore of it. And yes, it’s only a made for TV drama but it’s too stressful and these kind of things must go on in real life as well.

butterpuffed · 07/05/2025 08:36

Secrets, lies , manipulation . What else could possibly happen ? Oh yes, Fizz has turned up at the hospital after a manic episode ! And Aishlene took a photo of James and Kate kissing , and showed it to a nurse or doctor. She'll be causing trouble .

Is Hernandez ill ~ at the meeting when she was talking about Rosie , the camera appeared to show her head was swirling [can't explain it properly] and then she quickly composed herself .

Piggywaspushed · 07/05/2025 08:53

I am sure we'll find out more about Sophia, her marriage and so on.

Given all the powers are gunning for James, I am surprised they aren't equally keen to bring Sophia down. This programme makes the management of medics look so brutal.

By the way, haven't checked cast list but the spelling will almost certainly be Aisling.

The programme was filmed in Belfast - never sure why they don't just set it there!

Blondeshavemorefun · 07/05/2025 09:07

It’s Ashlene

and reliesed that kwame is jp from death in paradise

James was right about hazard tape being a danger wasn’t he. She nearly died - scary how tight that tape can be

Yes I spotted JP from Death in Paradise 😃

Untery · 07/05/2025 12:58

This programme is utterly terrifying .

I recognised him but couldn’t think why. Had to google him

OP posts:
Piggywaspushed · 07/05/2025 14:46

Where did the hazard tape go though because he screwed it up and binned it so how did Ashlene (apparent spelling!) know where it was.Had she already taken some?

I do like the focus this programme is throwing on how awful and harrowing it is to be seriously mentally ill. That's generally being done quite sensitively.

JSMill · 07/05/2025 15:18

Watching it made me realise how easy it is for things to go wrong quickly in childbirth. I also don’t think new mums get the support they need, especially when things go wrong. I was reading an article about a former Tory mp who had an absolutely traumatic experience giving birth. She gave a speech in the commons about supporting mothers and ended up in tears. She says she won’t have another child because of it.

Blondeshavemorefun · 07/05/2025 16:25

I think she has already taken some @Piggywaspushed

yes as a maternity nurse I hear some horrific stories from the mums I’ve worked for

real trauma

is there real targets for hospitals to try and meet with regards to lowering c sections ?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 07/05/2025 17:11

Wasn't that the main problem identified in one of the recent maternity scandals?

Yes it does sound familiar now

Piggywaspushed · 07/05/2025 18:29

Yes, the stuff about caesareans and the pressure to perform / not perform them and not listening to women was all a major strand of the Staffs Hospitals Enquiry and the Ockenden Report .

I wasn't sure how to read the patient who had the C section - did she have a seizure or not? It was clear Hernandez rushed to a C section decision and that the midwife was troubled. But Hernandez could have been correct.
