Dropping soon…starting thread in anticipation of many toe curling lifestyle guru treats with a total absence of irony and self awareness…!

Cooking the pasta in the sauce means it absorbs more of the flavour of the sauce. It's pretty good and I'm surprised she has been so criticised for it.

Well, even on the unlikely chance that that was what she was aiming for, it was sloppy and looked rank and wouldn’t have held its texture . There are a few exceptions and recipe adaptations that are out there but generally, pasta is not boiled alive in the sauce that’s meant to accompany it.

LoneAndLoco · 05/03/2025 23:38

We pay for Netflix so we have a right to have an opinion. It’s a load of tosh - I only got 20mins into the first one before I gave up.

To me water, feta and tomatoes that's filled with starch and all cooked at the same time as raw spaghetti is not acceptable as a sauce. It would put me off eating pasta forever!

A nice slow cooked tinned tomato sauce with good olive oil, then add very al dente pasta to serve and a bit of parmesan and basil. Why mess with that, it's not like it's difficult?!

I’ve heard early reviews and most people talking found it divorced from real life. Very little of interest to most of us. Netflix have ended the deal so little to interest them either. Just a rich woman telling you about her rich lifestyle. Boring! She’s got a nice kitchen though apparently!

it is boring, who wants to watch some rich woman pretending to be domesticated. She employs people to do all those nuance tasks

I just looked at pasta she made. Omg that's worse than my days as a 16 year old in a student house? How can you put raw pasta on top of feta and tomatoes then add water?! It must be so starchy and watery. I can't believe she would showcase such a basic and bizarre dish?

I thought that. Yuk!

I wish French and Saunders were still a thing. Imagine the sketch they could make of this bollocks!

I am waiting for a comedy sketch to be made from this. It’s like watching paint dry

What’s pancake mix? Self-raising flour surely?

You can make your own mix easily. Flour, eggs and milk and beat it all together. A child can make pancakes you don’t need a mix

I do wish MN would give us a yawn reaction.

Maybe if the silly woman grew up a bit and stopped trying to show us what a wonderful saint person she is and just got on with her life she might be more respected. Instead she's constantly in our faces and can't seem to grasp the fact that the majority of people are not at all interested in her fatuous life.

I am sick of hearing about her perfect life, perfect children and perfect husband. I don’t believe for one moment all is perfect in Meghan land. I see from Prince Harry’s body language he is not happy. I wouldn’t be surprised if she didn’t dump him for someone richer and better looking. Look how she treated her own father and I think she discards anyone who doesn’t dance to her tune.

Vacuous.
Surprisingly devoid of personality, charm and humour.
Lots of friends telling her how wonderful she is.
Lots of family and friends who won’t be on the receiving end of Meghan’s love, bath salts, dried flower sprinkles etc etc.

What a load of rubbish. Nobody is that perfect in real life

Elissaisnotmyname · 06/03/2025 02:48

AzurePanda · 05/03/2025 07:48

She just doesn’t seem to be a very good cook.

This is because she has a personal chef to cook for her. With her money why would anyone do their own cooking

It’s all very Amanda from Motherland,
kept expecting her to announce the soft opening of Hygge Tygge…😂

Brilliant! 🤣

Was Daniel not at the wedding?!

He was at a tasting for the cake but not the wedding??

I thought it seemed like an odd friendship.

She’s Probably friends with him for who he can introduce her to.

Sandylittleknees · 06/03/2025 06:57

I enjoyed it for the LOLs. Favourite moment was when they got molten wax all over the rather nice table and Megan tried to surreptitiously hide it with a tea towel. Why was that not edited out?! She seemed terrified of most of the things she was doing - the bees, the hot wax, tentatively poking the pasta, really messy looking cake icing, even said that baking wasn’t her favourite thing. The lumpy cake mixture did produce a surprisingly even cake though. I also watched thinking about French and Saunders, it is so perfect for parody it’s almost an unknown img parody already. Some of the reviews are v funny too. So overall I’m glad the program exists for the addition to the pantheon of things to laugh at. Dd appreciated me saying goodnight and checking if she had popcorn, pretzels and bedside blooms.

I just watched ten minutes. She put some pretzels from a branded bag into another bag. The editor must have been desperate.

I'm enjoying the show...it's what i expected and I'm not a Meghan hater...but this bit with the pretzels definitely made me cackle.

I may even try the bath teabag one day lol

Yes I thought it was truly bizarre that Daniel who apparently is one of her oldest friends wasn’t actually at the wedding. He seemed beyond delighted though that she’d deigned to give him a taste of the wedding cake.

She invited people she had never even met to her wedding (Oprah, the Clooneys etc) but not someone she had been friends with for years. Clearly he was not good enough. Hardly like she had to limit her side of the guest list due to hordes of family or keeping costs down.
She is a ruthless social climber.
Or is he just a friendly acquaintance wheeled out for this show because she has no real friends?
Either way I suppose poor old Daniel has to swallow it and keep her sweet because it is part of his job.

Jackdoor · 06/03/2025 09:57

Oh the cake annoyed me. Use digital scales to make sure they're all the same size! Your tins all weigh the same. Then you don't have to slice the sponge tops off.

I've only watched one ep but quite enjoyed it. I'm a sucker for beautiful houses and scenery though.

Edited

He did attend the wedding as a guest. Those cakes were display cakes and not the cake served to guests (and yes, I have just googled in order to look into this 😂)

AzurePanda · 06/03/2025 12:07

@BathingFrog as I read it he did her make up on the wedding day but was not a guest.

I make a pasta bake like this with raw pasta. It takes minutes to put together and is delicious!

Along the lines if when Victoria Wood ‘did’ Richard and Judy

I was listening to a tv reviewer yesterday on this. He feels the main issue is that it is on a streaming platform which lifestyle shows don't really fit well with how things are viewed. it would have done fine on a weekday morning show on terrestrial tv but people tend to watch documentaries or binge series on streaming platforms and generally watch them in the evenings so it just doesn't fit with this type of viewer. If you imagined it being done as a feature on Lorraine or This Morning it would go down fine.

Her surname isn’t even Sussex is it? She’s an embarrassment to the county & people of Sussex.

Anyone know what names/s she use in her previous marriages?

Dandeliontea123 · 06/03/2025 13:43

I've just finished watching series 4 of Sweet Magnolias (also on Netflix). Meghan's show is like the documentary version of it in some ways, especially with all the 'moments of joy' pronouncements and the amount of time and money (even though in SM the town is supposed to be broke) spent on entertaining others.

Although I haven't switched it off yet. It makes a good background for my sewing project!
