Dropping soon…starting thread in anticipation of many toe curling lifestyle guru treats with a total absence of irony and self awareness…!

She hasn't got to work like the rest of us so has time to make jam. To be fair the spaghetti recipe looked nice and easy to make, all in one pot. The soap and honey stuff was too pretentious for me.

Cloudsandbees · 04/03/2025 16:54

I would say I'm looking forward to the parodies, but the whole thing is more like a parody - and I'm only 10 minutes in.

I only watched half of the first one so maybe it improves but the friend she had over she has apparently known for 15 years. They were so stilted and awkward together. It was uncomfortable to watch. Neither could be themselves. Awful.

The cynical part of me says that they asked her to find the most diverse person she knows and she called a former underling. Or she is just THAT fake with friends. But he didn’t come across as a close friend who she hosts often

Ferryweather · 04/03/2025 17:19

I don’t really expect it to be like ‘real life’

Like all cookery / lifestyle shows there is an element of aspiration.

I think the issue with it is that it’s kind of trying to be like Martha Stewart but she’s Martha without the chops.

She’s no chef so even the cookery parts are bad. It’s basically a show around ‘look how I make things lovely for people’ and that will have a limited audience as it’s not like Martha who actually did things in a more practical way ( even though in a million years I wouldn’t do half that stuff )

Carouselfish · 04/03/2025 17:26

I just watched ten minutes. She put some pretzels from a branded bag into another bag. The editor must have been desperate.

Penko25 · 04/03/2025 17:29

It’s utter trash & so cringey. The reviews, including The Guardian are brutal.

CrazyOldMe · 04/03/2025 17:35

Does she really think her surname is "Sussex"!!?

AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair · 04/03/2025 17:36

I've had it on in the background today, I think we got what we were expecting. I found it fairly inoffensive

MollyRover · 04/03/2025 17:48

I won't be watching it but from the snippets of the reviews I read, is she trying to give Nadia Hussain vibes? With none of the warmth or personality obviously. The kitchen reminds me a bit of Nadia's set up.

Ferryweather · 04/03/2025 17:52

No, not really Nadiya. I would say it’s more aspirational. Nadiya sticks to cooking and is quite ‘ordinary’. I think it’s more Nigella/ kirstie allsop. I don’t really know what to think of it, I don’t know who the audience would be

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 04/03/2025 17:54

Mindy is intimidated by cutting fruit?

WTF am I watching?

MollyRover · 04/03/2025 17:57

Yes but she does a lot of creative cooking for children and family style dishes plus the fact that she's so warm, funny, likeable.

The bath tea bags from upthread made me chuckle though. Ruined many a muslin cloth with porridge oats in the bath during chickenpox season myself, can I have a Netflix deal plz?

Somethingthecatdraggedin7 · 04/03/2025 18:03

I wish French and Saunders were still a thing. Imagine the sketch they could make of this bollocks!

Iloveyoubut · 04/03/2025 18:07

Yeah I love it! She’s making pasta and honey - if you don’t like it move on - the whole county doesn’t need to continuously pick on one woman every day forever . Ffs - she’s literally made a show about cooking etc that no one has to watch and everyone is still bullying her for literally no reason anymore.

RubyTuesday10 · 04/03/2025 18:09

Poor “Uncle Daniel”, bet he would have loved a couple of beers and a pringle platter for his late night nibble.

Any problem that starts with 5 mins of beekeeping is good with me! Not sure why she was whispering the whole time. Hopefully it will be a bee heavy series.

RubyTuesday10 · 04/03/2025 18:12

That’s the first time she’d ever seen those bees though let’s be honest.

Edited

Yeap. I did notice she said they hadn't looked at them for months and the beekeeper guy was like, well I have.

BobbyBiscuits · 04/03/2025 18:27

I've not watched it but it sounds appallingly twee and fake. She makes pasta in the first one? I honestly don't believe she can cook. Or make honey or whatever other guff she's alleging?

She claims she had an impoverished childhood, (🙃🫤) then went on to be a Hollywood dolly bird, then did suits, then became a fake royal.
When would she ever have time to learn all those amazing yummy mummy skills? Oh, she didn't. Until the week they filmed it.

Gawd. She has no original ideas at all does she? I don't even know now who would admit to liking her. It would be social suicide for any of the types of women she's trying to appeal to.

RubyTuesday10 · 04/03/2025 18:31

It’s all very Amanda from Motherland,
kept expecting her to announce the soft opening of Hygge Tygge…😂

OMG YES!!!

Wildbird12 · 04/03/2025 18:34

I've only watched the first one so far.... Hmmmm. I agree that her and Daniel seemed very awkward and stilted around each other. I think she just seems such a dry character who takes herself very seriously.

The most authentic thing about it is that real beekeeper.

I think her putting the packet of snacks into another bag with a bow was ridiculous. This is a 'trick' is it??

I also think the music is very distracting...it's sort of like supermarket music?

It seems to be all about her and how amazing she is... I'll watch the other episodes because I'm interested in her and Prince Harry's story but I think the show is of a poor standard.

Just a note on the Sussex surname - I heard she has said this. But I thought her kids were given the Mountbatten-Windsor surname?

Oh I 'd love to see the Royals here watching this Gogglebox style!

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 04/03/2025 18:35

Watched Episode One - won't be watching another - found it fatuous
