Re Charlotte. I've come to think that people (myself included initially) have really misunderstood her.
I think she's one of the players who took the purity of the game very seriously. A game buff maybe? There've been others over the three series, including Ivan in series 1. I get the impression she didn't take stuff personally. So, possibly didn't fully comprehend the personal impact on others? I genuinely, sincerely don't think she meant to cause hurt. I really don't. I think she just was excited by her newfound traitor role, and was fully immersed in the game, and got a little carried away!
I was so upset about poor Freddie. However, in terms of Minah, she was amazing, but starting to run out of steam, and already had lots of heat on her, especially from Freddie and Frankie. If she hadn't gone that night, it would have been the next I reckon, regardless of Charlotte. If Charlotte hadn't voted for her, she'd have had to vote for Freddie, so he'd have gone the day before he did, though possibly better for him, as he'd have left declaring himself a faithful.
In terms of gameplay, I reckon the reason she recruited and sacrificed Freddie was that it was the last night a banished traitor could be named. So her last opportunity to potentially enable the others to think they'd caught most of all of the traitors. As Jake was convinced it had to be a bloke, she only had Freddie or Alexander to choose from. Alexander would have been less upset I think, but she probably went with Freddie, as he was one vote shy of being voted out earlier that evening. I still thought it was awful, but I don't think there was even a tiny bit of malice there, just ruthless gameplay. She wanted to win!
As for the suggestion that she cost others their game. Well, yes, but they all cost someone else their game! Minah and Linda ended the game for over half the players by ousting them! Those are the rules.
I most definitely didn't want Charlotte to win. I'm always team faithful, and I was team Alexander at the end; and my heart broke for Freddie. But, I don't think Charlotte is remotely the person she's been painted as by some. I think she just really played the game, with more enthusiasm and focus than most. Her line about the chess game not being 'the chess she loves and knows' confirmed her love of games and strategy for me. She never once was personal or aggressive towards other players at any other point. Other traitors in past seasons have been way more brutal. I can't help but think the fact she's a woman has fed much of the ire? Even if subconsciously...
