The adaptation of Harlan Coben's novel is coming to Netflix on New Year's Day.

I've recently read the book so I'm looking forward to the series.

Bookmarking this thank you!

Just finished episode 3. REALLY enjoying it. It's very good! 😄

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 02/01/2025 15:12

We binged it yesterday but as a probation officer, I couldn’t get past Kat being snuck into a prison by a prison guard as payment for her next PI investigation 😂. That could literally never, ever happen!

icecreamscoops · 02/01/2025 19:25

Just finished episode 2 I always love the dramatic ends of each episode which reveals everyone is dodgy as hell!

ItWasnaMeGuv · 02/01/2025 20:16

I have watched all of them. It is ok, I'm going to read the book again. The transvestite yoga teacher mate of Kat's was also in an old episode of Vera, he was pretty good. I agree that sometimes the transfer from a USA book to UK can cause some jarring in the script and storyline. Some stuff just doesn't translate. Nonetheless, I love a Harlan Coban story.

Did anyone notice reference to the Bolitar Hotel? Grin

farthingwood5 · 02/01/2025 20:32

Weird seeing GK Barry and Matt from busted in it !

doneandone · 02/01/2025 21:43

Feel like I'm in the minority then when I say I think it was meh, definitely nowhere near BBC drama quality and feel like the catfishing story line was shoehorned in. It didn't flow. Feels like it was chucked together.

JustWalkingTheDogs · 02/01/2025 21:51

I binge watched it this week. Far too many holes and stuff that wasn't quite believable. The ending ruined the whole series for me tbh. Bloody ridiculous.

Olika · 02/01/2025 21:56

Just finished binging it today. Haven't read the book so no idea of the original storyline but the ending was annoying. The series was entertaining but not something I would watch again.

hattie43 · 02/01/2025 22:01

I thought it was disappointing held together by the amazing Steve Pembertons dog breeder . It just didn't knit together well for me and I didn't enjoy to random storylines , mad dog breeder incinerating people on a farm and Kats boyfriend doing a runner , meh

NotaRealHousewife · 02/01/2025 22:29

What a load of rubbish

mnahmnah · 02/01/2025 22:39

Does the book have a clearer ending? Because I just said to DH ‘is that it?! What’s that meant to mean?!’

ellebelli · 02/01/2025 22:39

Watched the first episode, wanted to give up half way through that but OH said to continue.
Doubt will watch anymore.

I said, “is that it?” too. The dodgy dog breeder’s storyline needed far more explanation. Plus it would never have worked, kidnapping people and forcing them to send money from their bank accounts. Their accounts would obviously be looked into as soon as they were reported missing and it would come back to the dog breeder in the end.

I would also like to add: Kat shot someone and then was immediately allowed to leave the scene by the Police. Even in self defence, she would be questioned. And what are the chances that they just happened upon the image of the investigating officer’s ex fiancé, out of all of the inactive accounts on social media?!

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 02/01/2025 22:52

Oh and one more moan… it was so obvious who had killed her dad right from the start 🙈.

Talesfromtheriverbank · 02/01/2025 23:05

Sorry but it’s a load of rubbish imho. Badly acted, full of plot holes. The idea she could sneak into a prison with a mobile phone and that ludicrous nurse in the jail! Just wouldn’t happen.

watched 2 episodes and that was enough.

Meredusoleil · 02/01/2025 23:15

Have only watched episode 1 so far and the constant flashbacks without warning are getting on my nerves a bit.

Have watched all the other English language Harlan Coben miniseries, as well as read the books, so will perservere and finish this one too.

VelvetWildflower · 02/01/2025 23:18

Just finished it. Was expecting good things and didn't enjoy it at all. I ended up skipping parts of episode 5 and watched through the end of episode 6.

It's watchable but I wouldn't revisit it.

Bibbetybobbity · 02/01/2025 23:51

I agree with the PP saying it was twaddle. I’ve barely lasted ten mins- seems laboured and over acted. I’ve just finished Slow Horses on the other hand which was exceptional.

SabreIsMyFave · 03/01/2025 10:40

I was kinda hooked on it, but also thought it was a messy mish-mash. Kat's ex - (Josh was it, also known as Reggie,) why DID he leave/ghost her 11 years ago? I never figured that bit out. (The whole thing was quite confusing!)

I liked Steve Pemberton as the evil dog breeder though. He makes a good baddie. Good actor!

I was also surprised to see GK Barry as the cam-girl, but yeah, the whole thing seemed messy/confusing!

JMSA · 03/01/2025 14:15

I lasted until halfway through episode 2.
There is so much going on, yet still it manages to be boring and slow.

SPOILER

He left because he killed her dad and couldn't live with the guilt of it all.

Glad I read that comment above.
Watched the first episode and has soon has the hit man said he didn't do it, I said it would be the ex.
Now I don't need to wonder and watch anymore(couldnt force myself too)
(Seriously though why after 11yrs would you care about someone who fucked off)
the first scene of her and her date in the restaurant with the shite script and him flexing etc put me right off..

Edited

I've read the book and it feels less obvious in the book version as there are lots of various things going on at the same time. It would have been better if this was set in the US as the book was, as some of the changes weakened the story.

Hmmm. Not sure what I made of all that.

I liked the lead actor, she’s believable and didn’t overact in my opinion.

I guessed whodunnit early doors, but hoped I was wrong as that would be a bit rubbish. Unfortunately I was right.

Seemed implausible that Kat would just take Josh back like that as well, after giving such a lame excuse as to why he disappeared. It was watchable though. Rather enjoyed Steve Pemberton’s character (yes very Inside No9!) but now I’ve finished it, it just seemed rather disjointed. Bit disappointed overall.
