Can't see a thread about it. We loved it. Sat down together to watch it just like we did some of the earlier ones when the kids were little (in their 30s now!). What a terrific job the voice actor playing Wallace did! Just like Peter Sallis.

It was great, wasn’t it! Full of little nods to old films (a fake nun on the Accrington Queen, for example) and Reece Shearsmith as Norbot was inspired Grin
No one recognising Feathers McGraw with a rubber glove on his head will never not be funny.

historygeek · 26/12/2024 07:01

We loved it too! DD8 was absolutely howling. We might need to spend the rest of the holidays watching the old ones. We love Early Man too

allmybooksarefromthelibrary · 26/12/2024 07:07

We loved it as well.

frenchnoodle · 26/12/2024 07:09

Wonderful.

Ben Whitehead has been doing Wallace for about 10 years now, taking the workload off Sailis (Ben did the video games and adverts, sails did the "main line" stuff) but it still must have been daunting stepping into those big shoes, your first mainline outing a feature film!

He did perfectly, starting on a high.

As for the film, after the netflix chicken run I had apprehensions, but it was spot on, a clear new era has been opened while completely respecting the franchise past.

How they make Gromit so expressive is beyond me, but you always know exactly what he's thinking. I loved the fact that a Christmas special started with a present which the giver was convinced was exactly what the recipient needed but actually demonstrated a total lack of understanding of what the recipient loves and wants. So many threads here yesterday on that same theme!

Gromit’s eyeroll when Wallace said “He’s voice activated!” was classic.

frenchnoodle · 26/12/2024 07:20

I love the fact that the flashbacks have the policeman younger but Wallace, Feathers and Gromit are identical.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 26/12/2024 07:26

Nice nods at the end to The Italian Job and Mary Poppins. There were probably lots more I missed. The nun one mentioned above passed me by.

@Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g

I clocked Aliens, too, and Terminator.

NewGreenDuck · 26/12/2024 07:42

It was absolutely wonderful! And Gromit is brilliant, agree that he is so expressive. I like the fact that there can be a sequel as Feathers is now on the loose again, and up to his old tricks.

frenchnoodle · 26/12/2024 07:44

"Click all the items made of cheese"

Of course the moon was there 🤣

FeegleFrenzy · 26/12/2024 07:45

Dh was laughing his head off all the way through. I wouldn’t have known it wasn’t Peter sallis doing the voice. Sounded just the same.

Oblomov24 · 26/12/2024 07:48

Enjoyed it. Very much. Agree that Gromitt is so expressive. I did laugh, and as always thought it was well done and clever.

femininomenon · 26/12/2024 07:48

Absolutely brilliant we all loved it! I have to sit and remind myself how it's made sometimes as all the teeny tiny details and facial expressions etc are just incredible.

soupfiend · 26/12/2024 07:49

I had to look up whether Peter Sallis had died or not, incredible voice for Wallace

We loved it, and yes gives opportunity for another one involving Feathers.

Loved all the other film references and the Britishness of it

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 26/12/2024 07:51

This was an absolute masterpiece - we all loved it. I spotted a reference to The Ladykillers during the end scene too.
100% on rotten tomatoes when I looked last night

Watched it after the terrible episode of Doctor Who...

Oblomov24 · 26/12/2024 07:54

I love what op says about present 🎁 total lack of understanding, takes me right back to the first time I ever saw the wrong trousers train scene, which is still my favourite.

focuspocus · 26/12/2024 08:03

The only references I picked up were Bond and Mary Poppins! Thought it was great and nice to have something to wait, look forward to and sit down for as a family.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 26/12/2024 08:07

Of course, The Ladykillers too! I did spot that last night but forgot it again. One of my favourite films (original Alec Guinness/Peter Sellers/Herbert Lom version, unsurpassed).

Yorkshire Border - No Parkin also made me laugh.

We all loved it in our house from age 5 to 75. Even the grumpy teens were giggling.

I also love Feathers' disguises that are apparently so convincing 'it's being driven by a small nun' and we were howling at the slow motion canal boat chase where they get overtaken by a granny and her little dog!

Perfect Christmas movie.

Moonwalkies · 26/12/2024 08:09

I'm actually not a huge W&G fan, i watched the others when I was younger but always been a bit meh on them; but loved this- best thing I've watched this year!

ThePure · 26/12/2024 08:12

I heard an interview about the making of it and they pointed out that Feathers has almost no features to make any expression with but they manage to make his blankness sinister. It's really amazing the effort that goes in

ThatAgileCoralBird · 26/12/2024 08:17

It was brilliant! We loved every minute of it.

Oreosareawful · 26/12/2024 08:22

I howled with laughter when Feathers turned around in his chair with the big white mug from The Office “Worlds Best Boss”

I also loved The Traitors add at the end with Feathers in place of Claudia 😂

ErrolTheDragon · 26/12/2024 08:24

Yorkshire Border - No Parkin also made me laugh.

I love those little blink and you'll miss them details (Grommit's books 'A room of one's own by Virginia Woof, and later Paradise Lost...I'm sure I missed quite a few).

Loved the Bond villain with a seal pup 😂
