I went once with DS when he was about 6 and really into it. I found it all quite uderwhelming tbh - it was the year with Kelvin Fletcher and Karim (early 2020 just before everything shut up shop). Everything was rehearsed to within an inch of its life and the judges' responses were entirely scripted and predicable. There were probably some good professional routines but the "celebrity" dances we'd all seeen befoer so almost no element of surprise, except for Bruno Tonioli singing "can't take my eyes off you" (badly). I wouldn't go again. It was full of middle aged wives and accompanying husbands, and quite a lot of families. Overwhelmingly female crowd.

however DS was thrilled when we were in Pret nearby beforehand and Neil and Graziano and a couple of others came in, basically just to pose for selfies. They were quite literally looking for attention but quite nice and friendly with it.

That made me laugh.
God love em, I suppose it's a precarious job and you have to take the opportunities you get!

Never been to the tour, but I saw Aljaz and Janette plus the Robin Windsor tribute recently. I am thinking of booking to see Karen and Gorkha next year, or perhaps Oti.

tennissquare · 20/11/2024 18:41

I've been to the live tour a few times, last year (Feb 24) I went just to see Layton and Nikita. The tickets do sell
out in advance but they still need decent celebs to give the event a lift. I hope Kai gets Montell as Johannes can't do the tour due to kinky boots.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 20/11/2024 21:10

Got to say it. Not a huge fan of Sarah and I hate Couples Choice but I've now watched that Padam Padam routine so many times, I love it.

GrouchyKiwi · 20/11/2024 22:08

I'm quite irritated because I've had Asereje stuck in my head all week so far, a song I hadn't thought about in literally years.

I don't know Padam Padam well enough for it to get stuck there, thankfully, because it would be if I did.

Well, I shouldn't have looked at this thread just before going to bed. Thanks for that 😁

I've never been to the tour, but did see Strictly: The Professionals and it was brilliant. Shame they aren't doing that any more. I did want to go and see Giovanni but don't want to now after everything.

I saw Giovanni on tour with Lauren a couple of years ago. It was great - I'd certainly go again regardless of the events.

Not just me then. I've had it stuck in my head all week too!

I bet those who go to the tour are die hard fans, who probably go every single year.

Surely some of them are on this thread?

I've been two or three times, generally picking up a single ticket at the last minute if I happen to be free and I fancy the lineup. It's a good show, but I only ever go to the last night at the O2 where the end of tour madness cuts through the off putting knowledge that the judges have made those spontaneous off the cuff remarks fifty times already.

ChessieFL · 21/11/2024 09:42

I’ve been to the live tour once. It was good but haven’t gone again because for us it’s a really expensive day out so not worth it - none of the venues are anywhere near us so travel needs to be added on, and I think you need to pay for decent seats so that adds to the cost. When we went we were quite high up and while we could see everything they were all very small…

FrothyCothy · 21/11/2024 09:51

I’ve been to the tour twice - once being the Danny and Oti year which was fab, and last year with the kids who got really into it. Have to say, wasn’t a fan of Layton during the series but seeing him dance live was a treat, he was really phenomenal. It’s an expensive day out but feels like value for money usually - but wouldn’t bother paying for this year’s crop sadly.

FrothyCothy · 21/11/2024 09:52

Danny and Oti was also the Ed Balls year and was a total hoot!

Lentilweaver · 21/11/2024 10:31

The 02 is a terrible venue for dance, as too large. Prefer Sadler's Wells.

I wouldn't bother seeing this year's crop even for free. Would rather pay to see exceptional pros like Karen who have had a rotten run.

CaveMum · 21/11/2024 11:35

Is there an easy way to see which pros are touring without having to google each bleedin' one of them?!

I see that Anton is playing the next town over just before Christmas and he's back with his Giovanni double act next summer too.

It's a terrible venue full stop.

I've been very comfortable in the stalls for Dolly Parton, and wildly happy dancing down by the stage for Prince (gone but not forgotten 💜).
But can totally imagine it being a bad dance venue.

The final celeb for the Christmas special is Billy Monger.

Runningupthecurtains · 21/11/2024 18:50

Billy Monger is the 6th name for Christmas. So as I suspected 4 men and only two women in the Christmas Special. Gutted that I won't be watching on principle as I think Billy is fantastic.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 21/11/2024 18:51

Oh! Billy Monger is great! Loved him on Race Across The World

I was gutted when him and Bonnie had to leave.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 21/11/2024 18:54

Totally

EsmaCannonball · 21/11/2024 18:56

So only two women in the Christmas Special. Among the blokes there's a drag queen and someone who has just been banned from driving. Seems like they are taking their cue from the main show.

And Tamsin Outhwaite is dancing to Hallelujah. Yeah, that'll be Christmassy. Bet the opening routine will be to Radiohead's Fade Out and the judges will walk on to I Know It's Over by The Smiths.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 21/11/2024 18:59

I too, don't understand why Hallelujah is classed as a Christmas song. I know they released it at Christmas time for X Factor but still!

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 21/11/2024 18:59

someone who has just been banned from driving.

Who?
