I don't think it's that. When he says "more vulnerable" what he means is "stop being so fake all the time and just be real. Take off your Bridget Jones mask and be Emma. The real one" because he has seens glimpses of that Emma and he likes Emma. I am not sure that Emma herself likes that Emma though.
