Showtrial season 2 will focus on a brand new case, three years after the original season aired.

But I don’t think they are linked

But recap 1 - 5 here

5 parts on every Sunday at 9 on bbc

In the first season, we focused on the mysterious disappearance of Hannah Ellis and an arrogant entrepreneur's daughter named Talitha Campbell finds herself as the prime suspect.

This time, it's an entirely new hotly contested criminal trial, with this season's case involving the death of high-profile climate activist named Marcus Calderwood, and the people who are trying to uncover the truth.

the drama unfolding as people try to work out if Marcus' death was an accident or a planned attack. But as secrets and lies are uncovered, it soon becomes clear that not everyone is telling the truth...

Showtrial season 2 plot
In Showtrial season 2, we see the high-profile climate activist Marcus Calderwood left for dead in a violent hit-and-run.

But in his dying moments, he reveals his killer is a serving policeman.

It's up to a charismatic and cocky officer, an anxious defense solicitor, and a rigorous CPS lawyer to uncover the truth and reveal whether or not Marcus' death was an accident or a planned attack.

From the victim's last breath to the jury’s final verdict, Showtrial introduces us to the charismatic and cocky police officer Justin Mitchell (Michael Socha);

Sam Malik (Adeel Akhtar) an anxious defense solicitor with a reputation for winning lost causes;

and Leila Hassoun-Kenny (Nathalie Armin) a driven CPS lawyer leading the case against the accused.

As public outrage reaches fever-pitch, the series asks what happens when a trial is dominated by cultural divisions and if the truth is ever clear cut.

Is a fair trial even possible when tensions are riding so high?

Showtrial season 2 cast
Adeel Akhtar (Fool Me Once (www.whattowatch.com/watching-guides/fool-me-once-cast-plot-and-all-about-the-latest-harlan-coben-thriller), Sherwood), Nathalie Armin (Unforgotten), and
Michael Socha (
This Is England
) star in the three leading roles this season.

Adeel plays defense solicitor Sam Gill.

Michael plays officer Justin Mitchell.

And Nathalie is a rigorous CPS lawyer who is leading the case against the accused.

Just watched this episode . Brilliant acting .

I'm wondering if he made Sandra drive into Marcus as she did everything he wanted . But I think if he did , he wants to take the blame , because he thinks he deserves it . He's a very complex character .

Blondeshavemorefun · 29/10/2024 15:27

I think she would have confessed it it was her

Plus didn't her phone show her miles away

I thought it might have been Sandra, and Justin was covering for her, a couple of weeks ago, but I don't still think so.

CollaterlieSistersSister · 30/10/2024 17:42

Oh blimey, I don’t know what to think. I’m veering towards Justin being guilty, but something else is going to come out as to the reason why. I’m hardly ever right about these dramas!

Loving this though, so well acted and well paced.

Well that was a good series but weird ending

Glad mani forgive sam

So was all over gambling and a bet he lost

And won't dob him in incase he goes after sandy

I almost expected there to be an ending of seeing Justin hanging /taken pills

Or words on screen saying 3w in prison and Justin killed his self etx

I almost wanted him to get off on murder and get maybe a he a sentence due to mh or his issues but didn't

Yes, I thought Justin would be dead at the end too. All so well acted, and glad Sam and Mani resolved the row, not that I blamed Mani for his rage.

Northoftheterritory · 03/11/2024 22:31

I'm really hoping that it leaves the door open for Southgate (?) to go after Norris and get him before Justin takes his own life. I won't lie, I had a little tear.

Hugs to you @Blondeshavemorefun we've experienced suicide in our family too xx

Northoftheterritory · 03/11/2024 22:32

All the acting was brilliant, so glad Mani and Sam went off for a pint at the end

duc748 · 03/11/2024 23:01

Really good series. So much better than the general run of stuff. Nice finale, too.

Sorry to hear this @Northoftheterritory 💐

I was very apprehensive at what the ending would be when he said a few days a week a month ans hoover to hell we wouldn't see legs dangling as I still can't look at those scenes

Thankfully not

But good shout that other copper May go after him

Tho this series seems to be one off plots

Sandy must love him a lot for all she went through 🥲

That was really very good . the courtroom scenes were well done . Glad we didn't get to see Justin's demise and nice to see Mani and Sam get back together .

CollaterlieSistersSister · 04/11/2024 20:24

There’s not many of them about, but that was a great drama from start to finish. Brilliantly acted. The quickly fading smile on Justin’s face when he said he “sets his own tariff”. Excellent stuff.

Devillishlooloo · 05/11/2024 12:43

Yes, great drama. We really enjoyed it, even though we felt a bit drained when it finished.

BakeOffRewatch · 24/11/2024 21:40

Just finished this, thought it was fantastic. Firstly - I have very different taste to everyone on this thread, I’ve been having dreams about DI Miles Southgate!

Adeel Akhter is Villanelle’s therapist too. I love him.

Justin blamed Marcus for Daniella Fielding’s death, because “she should have never been there”, she was coming off an exit on an unfamiliar busy road and got t-boned by a lorry. He said there was a metal going through her gut, so even if the ambulance got there I doubt she would have survived.

This was less of a whodunnit, and more of a whoIntendedIt. Felix Owusu wants to think it’s Big Oil, but at the end of the day it was a rich cocky man who valued life very very little, having spent time involved with drug industry in Colombia. In a way Justin was a victim, he was highly vulnerable, drawn into Norris’s web, easily proffered the life partner he dearly loved for naked cleaning (it wasn’t explicitly said, but I am assuming the dangerous people you don’t want to owe money to are Norris and his mates), and he was deeply insecure and arrogant, a perfect recruit as a pawn for dirty and petty work. I’m sure Norris knew what he was doing inviting that particular police officer who attended the tree incident to social gatherings. One that was so clearly messed up and traumatises. And whilst SCG want to think it’s police intent, it’s police incompetence r systemic failure that meant Justin was still serving after missing 3 psychotherapy appointments.

So now Justin will commit suicide, while Norris swans off on a private jet with his rich mates.

I liked the Leila sister stuff, the series is about relationships, perceptions, vulnerabilities played out on social media with the prevailing polarising dynamic that’s everywhere now. Not just police bad/good, SGC/FGC the opposite. It’s even going into personal relationships. Leila said something that hurt her sister deeply, hurting her sense of self, and her sister’s response to this deep hurt is to characterise her as an evil to be purged, rather than a human who loves and makes mistakes. The latter is far harder to do and nuanced of course, and requires self reflection .

And whilst we’re all tearing down our closest relationships to “do better”, and dismantling imperfect systems meant to protect us (police, healthcare), Norris is fine and laughing on a private jet.

Loved it Blondes, Adeel Akhtar is such an incredible actor

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 15/12/2024 22:38

I binge watched S1 and 2 recently and loved them both. The acting from Adeel Akhtar and the guy who played Justin was superb.

There were people calling AA out on the 'lousy actors and actresses' thread! I couldn't believe it!
