But recap 1 - 5 here

5 parts on every Sunday at 9 on bbc

In the first season, we focused on the mysterious disappearance of Hannah Ellis and an arrogant entrepreneur's daughter named Talitha Campbell finds herself as the prime suspect.

This time, it's an entirely new hotly contested criminal trial, with this season's case involving the death of high-profile climate activist named Marcus Calderwood, and the people who are trying to uncover the truth.

the drama unfolding as people try to work out if Marcus' death was an accident or a planned attack. But as secrets and lies are uncovered, it soon becomes clear that not everyone is telling the truth...

Showtrial season 2 plot
In Showtrial season 2, we see the high-profile climate activist Marcus Calderwood left for dead in a violent hit-and-run.

But in his dying moments, he reveals his killer is a serving policeman.

It's up to a charismatic and cocky officer, an anxious defense solicitor, and a rigorous CPS lawyer to uncover the truth and reveal whether or not Marcus' death was an accident or a planned attack.

From the victim's last breath to the jury’s final verdict, Showtrial introduces us to the charismatic and cocky police officer Justin Mitchell (Michael Socha);

Sam Malik (Adeel Akhtar) an anxious defense solicitor with a reputation for winning lost causes;

and Leila Hassoun-Kenny (Nathalie Armin) a driven CPS lawyer leading the case against the accused.

As public outrage reaches fever-pitch, the series asks what happens when a trial is dominated by cultural divisions and if the truth is ever clear cut.

Is a fair trial even possible when tensions are riding so high?

Showtrial season 2 cast
Adeel Akhtar (Fool Me Once (www.whattowatch.com/watching-guides/fool-me-once-cast-plot-and-all-about-the-latest-harlan-coben-thriller), Sherwood), Nathalie Armin (Unforgotten), and
Michael Socha (
This Is England
) star in the three leading roles this season.

Adeel plays defense solicitor Sam Gill.

Michael plays officer Justin Mitchell.

And Nathalie is a rigorous CPS lawyer who is leading the case against the accused.

It must be me. Actors great. Script terrible. Really poor.

Blondeshavemorefun · 22/10/2024 13:04

I'm loving the script

With his comic way to explain stuff

I agree
It's the
"I Want It All And I Want It Now" mentality.

What happened to delayed gratification ! Smile

Yes, I like having stuff to look forward to, never binge unless retrospectively, I don't even like the word!

duc748 · 22/10/2024 19:03

"Appointment TV" along with many other things, is yet another small pleasure in life that the exigencies of the digital world have effectively killed off. "Water-cooler chat", and all that.

FannyCradocksDoughnut · 22/10/2024 21:51

Really enjoying this it's nice to see Francesca Annis looking fabulous at 79!

Yes that's a good point

Omg. Did you watch xxx last night

Yep. Rarely happens now

Adeel is fabulous in this! He does angst so well
I don't like Justin , but the actor playing him is lush. The script is clunky, but Laila is good and Francesca Annis is looking good !
It is oddly entertaining about a very serious subject.

Blondeshavemorefun · 25/10/2024 00:00

Prods @the80sweregreat

Justin is mine

I have a huge crush on him

Wonder what sandys statement said and will Justin be cocky in the Dock

OP posts:
Moanranger · 27/10/2024 22:18

Well, that was something! They do take a lot of liberties with court proceedings, tho. A lot of that would never happen, court is mainly very dry & mundane.
Not immediately handing Sandy’s letter to the other side would be dealt with severely.
All families/relationships dysfunctional - and then some.
I love how the station commander got 86ed!

duc748 · 27/10/2024 22:27

I think when Sam said to Justin that they were going to tear Sandra to pieces in court, he was all too well aware that Justin would be torn to pieces too. I want to know more about dodgy Norris, and a lot less about Leila and her annoying family!

Northoftheterritory · 27/10/2024 22:28

That was really good but Mani 😰😰

duc748 · 27/10/2024 22:32

Lock your laptop!

Clawdy · 27/10/2024 23:03

Poor Mani. I did think last week how weird for Sam to consider suicide and leaving his son alone, after losing one parent already.

Blondeshavemorefun · 28/10/2024 09:31

So he did do it ?

I'm a little puzzled - why was he so cocky that he would get off ? Due to sandy ?

He obv does love her due to his outburst in court

Not sure what's going to happen in next weeks

Will be get off due to mh issues and losing their baby

Don't know what I'm still not convinced he did it - whether due to how s1 ended or ..........

Poor mani. And no way San would ever consider suicide and leaving his son. Esp after his wife did

I know about suicide as dh committed suicide

There is no way the other parent would do the same due to the total devastation

Thank you @Blondeshavemorefun.
It's great to be able to chat on here about what we watched. Flowers

Great acting by Adeel Akhtar, Michael Socha and Anna Prochniak as Sandra.

Moanranger · 28/10/2024 11:03

@Blondeshavemorefun But don’t you see? His cockiness hides a deep insecurity, he is very self hating. It is meaningless in this context, just a way of hiding his guilt. Very well portrayed by the actor. I have known men like this, deeply screwed up.
Legal conundrum, now that he has admitted his guilt, I think he can only change his plea to the charge in front of court, murder, he cannot now plead guilty to manslaughter, as that is not the charge. I could be wrong on this. It puts lawyers in a real bind, as it seriously limits their options.

That's a good point

I assumed he was so cocky due to being innocent

But hiding stuff makes sense

Now sam has heard he can't unheard

But if he planned to kill Marcus then surely it's murder not manslaughter
