Showtrial season 2 will focus on a brand new case, three years after the original season aired.

But recap 1 - 5 here

5 parts on every Sunday at 9 on bbc

In the first season, we focused on the mysterious disappearance of Hannah Ellis and an arrogant entrepreneur's daughter named Talitha Campbell finds herself as the prime suspect.

This time, it's an entirely new hotly contested criminal trial, with this season's case involving the death of high-profile climate activist named Marcus Calderwood, and the people who are trying to uncover the truth.

the drama unfolding as people try to work out if Marcus' death was an accident or a planned attack. But as secrets and lies are uncovered, it soon becomes clear that not everyone is telling the truth...

Showtrial season 2 plot
In Showtrial season 2, we see the high-profile climate activist Marcus Calderwood left for dead in a violent hit-and-run.

But in his dying moments, he reveals his killer is a serving policeman.

It's up to a charismatic and cocky officer, an anxious defense solicitor, and a rigorous CPS lawyer to uncover the truth and reveal whether or not Marcus' death was an accident or a planned attack.

From the victim's last breath to the jury’s final verdict, Showtrial introduces us to the charismatic and cocky police officer Justin Mitchell (Michael Socha);

Sam Malik (Adeel Akhtar) an anxious defense solicitor with a reputation for winning lost causes;

and Leila Hassoun-Kenny (Nathalie Armin) a driven CPS lawyer leading the case against the accused.

As public outrage reaches fever-pitch, the series asks what happens when a trial is dominated by cultural divisions and if the truth is ever clear cut.

Is a fair trial even possible when tensions are riding so high?

Showtrial season 2 cast
Adeel Akhtar (Fool Me Once (www.whattowatch.com/watching-guides/fool-me-once-cast-plot-and-all-about-the-latest-harlan-coben-thriller), Sherwood), Nathalie Armin (Unforgotten), and
Michael Socha (
This Is England
) star in the three leading roles this season.

Adeel plays defense solicitor Sam Gill.

Michael plays officer Justin Mitchell.

And Nathalie is a rigorous CPS lawyer who is leading the case against the accused.

Yes we only have paramedic view that Marcus said that make

But she said the copper was there and heard - tho he said he didn't

So think they are all either on it or Marcus didn't say his name and someone who saw the video of him saying don't want you to have an accident via his cam is setting Justine up

OP posts:
Blondeshavemorefun · 09/10/2024 18:48

Name ffs. Not make

OP posts:
CollaterlieSistersSister · 09/10/2024 19:13

I think the paramedic said she told the other officer, not that he was there when Marcus actually gave her the name. Ooh maybe I have found a twist (disclaimer: I never find the twist).

lazymum99 · 09/10/2024 19:36

Am I right in thinking that we never heard him say the actual name of the police officer. Because I thought he just said it was a police officer.

Blondeshavemorefun · 09/10/2024 19:43

We never heard it so do we believe Marcus said it was Justin and it was Justin

Or some else did it and Marcus said a name but it wasn't Justin but ambulance lady said it was

Something to do with the mermaid code and wats app group

But surely all the messages will be found via their geek tech lab

OP posts:
Georgieporgie29 · 10/10/2024 13:10

I thought the mermaid was their code for shutting down the group chat?

Am enjoying this so far and I can’t decide whether he is guilty or not, I’m thinking not because it would seem too obvious the other way (although I am completely shit at these things and can never figure anything out until it’s right in front of me).

Blondeshavemorefun · 10/10/2024 13:23

Yes mermaid was code for deleting everything

But surely they would releise police tech nerds and geeks can find anything deleted

Ans why delete

What is so important on the messages

OP posts:
Georgieporgie29 · 10/10/2024 15:06

Yes I agree, as an expert in police protocol (picked up from numerous hours of tv based research) I believe they should be able to retrieve any deleted chats

MouseMinge · 10/10/2024 17:47

It's also possible that Marcus did give Justin's name and that he was lying and it wasn't Justin. There was a lot of beef between them so anything is possible wrt the name. Anyone could be lying from Marcus to the police officer with the paramedic in the middle but we would need to know why she might lie.

E2 tonight

Phones have been wiped and colleagues being quiet

What are they hiding

OP posts:
Blondeshavemorefun · 13/10/2024 22:07

I don't know if he is guilty

Ahhhhhh

He's so cocky and sure of his self

But then the car accident looked fake and deliberately done

But things like the giraffe and target don't help

Wonder why Becky decided to give over the transcript of their chat

Becky seems lovely.

So maybe she ran Marcus over! For no reason I can think of.

Nor can i imagine the paramedic made it up. Marcus may have decided to frame Justin/or thought it was him as was his car. Which would mean his girlfriend faking the gym crash? Was that dated after or before the accident (was Sunday 9.55am). If it was before then maybe she did it?

duc748 · 13/10/2024 22:33

I said last week, could it be Sandy, and yes, still think it's still an option. He's surely covering for someone, and I don't see him risking his liberty for his idiot colleagues.

Maybe Becky thought it was the right thing to do

Blondeshavemorefun · 14/10/2024 08:32

Well yes def the right thing to do and one of the few females

But seems extreme to delete whole group if the giraffe

And surely if he is going to Jill someone he's not going to say about it on the group

OP posts:
burnoutbabe · 14/10/2024 08:34

I assume Becky hates the lad culture at the station and as she says to the lawyer, likes the straight forward ness of Southgate.

You saw her face fall after she did some banter with the lads (and they could not see her). She clearly wasn't as cocky as she was making out to them.

deeahgwitch · 14/10/2024 08:57

Whether he's guilty or not we might never know.
In Showtrial Season 1 wasn't the main character found not guilty but at the end a comment was made to indicate she was guilty ?

I agree with you @Blondeshavemorefun, Justin is so cocky and sure of himself.
The wee dog was gorgeous.

The police WhatsApp is very topical as quite a few police officers in the UK have been sacked or are being investigated recently for posting private messages on social media regarding cases they are working on.

Blondeshavemorefun · 14/10/2024 09:30

Yes @deeahgwitch that's why I'm unsure about this

We don't know due to ending of s1 - was she making a comment or playing games

Did she stitch her friend up ?

Tho this story is diff

He's not pointing the finger at anyone

Just saying it's not him

But could be double bluffing

If I did it I wouldn't need to be told would I - as I would know

OP posts:
Moanranger · 14/10/2024 15:00

@Blondeshavemorefun Yeah, but his mates were giving him the heads up that he had been named - the "not needing to be told if he did it" is a red herring.

Blondeshavemorefun · 14/10/2024 15:03

So you think he did it ?

OP posts:
Moanranger · 14/10/2024 20:09

@Blondeshavemorefun I will say to you what I say to my (annoying) DP, who loves to talk & speculate when we watch TV-

I’m really enjoying this, great acting especially the solicitor and the accused. Isn’t he, the accused, a lovely looking man?
