Showtrial season 2 will focus on a brand new case, three years after the original season aired.

But I don’t think they are linked

But recap 1 - 5 here

5 parts on every Sunday at 9 on bbc

In the first season, we focused on the mysterious disappearance of Hannah Ellis and an arrogant entrepreneur's daughter named Talitha Campbell finds herself as the prime suspect.

This time, it's an entirely new hotly contested criminal trial, with this season's case involving the death of high-profile climate activist named Marcus Calderwood, and the people who are trying to uncover the truth.

the drama unfolding as people try to work out if Marcus' death was an accident or a planned attack. But as secrets and lies are uncovered, it soon becomes clear that not everyone is telling the truth...

Showtrial season 2 plot
In Showtrial season 2, we see the high-profile climate activist Marcus Calderwood left for dead in a violent hit-and-run.

But in his dying moments, he reveals his killer is a serving policeman.

It's up to a charismatic and cocky officer, an anxious defense solicitor, and a rigorous CPS lawyer to uncover the truth and reveal whether or not Marcus' death was an accident or a planned attack.

From the victim's last breath to the jury’s final verdict, Showtrial introduces us to the charismatic and cocky police officer Justin Mitchell (Michael Socha);

Sam Malik (Adeel Akhtar) an anxious defense solicitor with a reputation for winning lost causes;

and Leila Hassoun-Kenny (Nathalie Armin) a driven CPS lawyer leading the case against the accused.

As public outrage reaches fever-pitch, the series asks what happens when a trial is dominated by cultural divisions and if the truth is ever clear cut.

Is a fair trial even possible when tensions are riding so high?

Showtrial season 2 cast
Adeel Akhtar (Fool Me Once (www.whattowatch.com/watching-guides/fool-me-once-cast-plot-and-all-about-the-latest-harlan-coben-thriller), Sherwood), Nathalie Armin (Unforgotten), and
Michael Socha (
This Is England
) star in the three leading roles this season.

Adeel plays defense solicitor Sam Gill.

Michael plays officer Justin Mitchell.

And Nathalie is a rigorous CPS lawyer who is leading the case against the accused.

He looks remarkably like his sister, which I find a bit weird.

xsquared · 18/10/2024 20:00

Is it just me or does Adeel Akhtar play the same character in Fool me once.

Devillishlooloo · 18/10/2024 19:22

I’m really enjoying this, great acting especially the solicitor and the accused. Isn’t he, the accused, a lovely looking man?

He is rather cute @Devillishlooloo

Tho also cocky

But funny

I'm almost old enough to be his mum - if I was a naughty girl at 14/15

Now what did sandy say

Are we meant to think Justin did it and she was covering

So he's not a nice man sleeping with the wife and taking the piss about naked cleaning

The clues he's gives about Romanian and sweets and the lake

But why talk in riddles

I'm def enjoying this !!

I'm enjoying this. Really good acting and an unusual storyline. I love the solicitor guy but does he always play someone with issues? I think Becky knows exactly what happened.

duc748 · 20/10/2024 22:42

Clearly it's all pointing to, Justin is guilty as hell. But it's hard to square his confidence that he's not going to prison for a very long time. And that he sees it as a jokey challenge to Sam to get him off. And he's happy to have Sam think that he really is guilty, and he's helping a murderer walk free. But back in the real world, Justin, you're in big shit. Although the very convenient loss of the pedal might help. It's hard to care about Leila and her awful family.

Yes, I commented earlier that he pretty much plays the same character in Fool Me Once. A detective who is reliant/addicted to medication bought from the internet and who hallucinates about his dead fiancee.

Ahh I couldn’t think what it was. Is that where he kept crashing the car and being found unconscious or something?

Blondeshavemorefun · 20/10/2024 23:05

I haven't seen fool me once.

Hopefully it will be on sky soon

Justin is so cocky and sure of his self or was till found out about sandy doing a statement

Maybe she has still supported his story

Everything points to him doing it

The gym crash with other car being more damaged

The camera being stolen

A bike in the pond

The pedal missing

Which means he prob is innocent

I think

Either way it's a good programme to keep me /us guessing

I'm confused how Marcus was responsible for the death of Daniela that so troubled Justin? I'm assuming the climate protestors were blocking the road or something so the couldn't get help to her. Has it been made clear?

Blondeshavemorefun · 20/10/2024 23:25

Yes that was it. Ambulance couldn't get through due to protesters via Marcus

Agree I thought that too! I kept getting the storylines mixed up!

Northoftheterritory · 20/10/2024 23:38

I'm thoroughly enjoying it, great characters. I love Sam's son the uni student supplying his Dad with barbiturates!

duc748 · 20/10/2024 23:44

I must say young Mani seems admirably grown-up and sensible compared to most of his age.

Yes, something like that! He suffers from black outs and is later revealed to have some medical brain condition.

Even more confusing is that his name in that series is also Sam!

I don't think it was that, I think it was the pregnant lady had to go a different route on a busier road and wasn't a confident driver because of the protestors.

I love the interaction between father and son.
Adeel Akhter is superb in Showtrial.
Hard to believe he is only 44.
I want to watch Fool Me Once now based on the comments on this thread.

Blondeshavemorefun · 21/10/2024 09:46

@Girliefriendlikespuppies unless it was both

But I thought she died in the car in his Arms while he was waiting for the ambulance to come /fire engine cut her out

OP posts:
CollaterlieSistersSister · 21/10/2024 10:20

I think it was both - she was somewhere different to where she wanted to be (because of Marcus), and the ambulance couldn’t reach her in time (because of Marcus).

The acting is superb in this, I heartily agree.
