Showtrial season 2 will focus on a brand new case, three years after the original season aired.

S1 thread here

But I don’t think they are linked

But recap 1 - 5 here

reelmockery.com/tag/showtrial/

5 parts on every Sunday at 9 on bbc

In the first season, we focused on the mysterious disappearance of Hannah Ellis and an arrogant entrepreneur's daughter named Talitha Campbell finds herself as the prime suspect.

This time, it's an entirely new hotly contested criminal trial, with this season's case involving the death of high-profile climate activist named Marcus Calderwood, and the people who are trying to uncover the truth.

the drama unfolding as people try to work out if Marcus' death was an accident or a planned attack. But as secrets and lies are uncovered, it soon becomes clear that not everyone is telling the truth...

Showtrial season 2 plot
In Showtrial season 2, we see the high-profile climate activist Marcus Calderwood left for dead in a violent hit-and-run.

But in his dying moments, he reveals his killer is a serving policeman.

It's up to a charismatic and cocky officer, an anxious defense solicitor, and a rigorous CPS lawyer to uncover the truth and reveal whether or not Marcus' death was an accident or a planned attack.

From the victim's last breath to the jury’s final verdict, Showtrial introduces us to the charismatic and cocky police officer Justin Mitchell (Michael Socha);

Sam Malik (Adeel Akhtar) an anxious defense solicitor with a reputation for winning lost causes;

and Leila Hassoun-Kenny (Nathalie Armin) a driven CPS lawyer leading the case against the accused.

As public outrage reaches fever-pitch, the series asks what happens when a trial is dominated by cultural divisions and if the truth is ever clear cut.

Is a fair trial even possible when tensions are riding so high?

Showtrial season 2 cast
Adeel Akhtar (Fool Me Once (www.whattowatch.com/watching-guides/fool-me-once-cast-plot-and-all-about-the-latest-harlan-coben-thriller), Sherwood), Nathalie Armin (Unforgotten), and
Michael Socha (
This Is England
) star in the three leading roles this season.

Adeel plays defense solicitor Sam Gill.

Michael plays officer Justin Mitchell.

And Nathalie is a rigorous CPS lawyer who is leading the case against the accused.

Surely the big question is, if he is innocent, why is he not more forthcoming, with the overwhelming circumstantial evidence? Could Sandy have done it?

Blondeshavemorefun · 06/10/2024 22:51

He's def cocky

And that's camera evidence is damming

Tho are we meant to think that

It was he silly to say that ans that happened

OP posts:
duc748 · 06/10/2024 23:08

I just think, "he's cocky, so he's innocent, case closed" isn't much of a plot-line. There has to be more to it than that. Is he covering for someone? There was a suggestion that maybe the split in the 'green' movement might be behind it. Possibly, but I think that's more likely a red herring.

Blondeshavemorefun · 06/10/2024 23:12

The d4 group chat

Wonder what was on it to be deleted

Possibly @duc748

And was it a story a car going to a garage due to being clipped

Would a police officer go for a run without his phone as his excuse /alibi

What location was sandys phone at time of accident

If it was Justin driving the car , was Marcus doing a usual route so knew he would be down that road at that time

And knew to leave his phone at home and obv take the head cam

Where not sure the average female (sorry sexist) would know to do that

Or

Will we find out that the paint on the medal isn't A match for his car

And Justin is innocent

Tho the chat groups text is something to ponder

Equally surely all coppers know that deleted texts can be read by techno geeks

I honestly don't know if Justin did it

Which makes it a good drama imo

And keeps us guessing till e2 next Sunday

Surprised more didn't watch it

Unless all binged

Clawdy · 07/10/2024 14:54

Enjoyed it, wish I'd watched the first series now.

Clawdy · 07/10/2024 14:58

Oops, just realised I did watch first series! 😁

butterpuffed · 07/10/2024 15:19

I don't think he did it , maybe someone with a grievance against him and heard about what he said to Marcus or maybe Marcus mentioned it to someone , and that's why it happened how it did .

Blondeshavemorefun · 07/10/2024 16:24

Ha ha @Clawdy It's on iPlayer If anyone wants to watch

@butterpuffed Yes I'm coming to that theory

Marcus was an annoying man

Police had seen that comment that Justin had made on his camera

So a dodgy copper framed him

But who

The story about getting a dog from a foreign country seemed so impossible that it did happen.

Really enjoyed this! I was expecting some sort of stereotypical police procedural, but no. It is very character driven.

Blondeshavemorefun · 07/10/2024 19:47

@Moanranger do you think Justin did it

No idea🤷‍♀️

MrsLargeEmbodied · 08/10/2024 05:57

that was good!

Blondeshavemorefun · 08/10/2024 07:25

Def gets you thinking

And maybe as ending of s1 was - did she do it or not

Means I'm unsure dud Justin

He's so cocky and funny in the interview about sandy and dog and car you think he's innocent

But then the mermaid and wats app group .....

I’m almost finished. Loving it! DI Southgate and Becky are brilliant. I kind of hope they get together but I know it’s not that sort of story. Love Sam too. The actor is brilliant!

Blondeshavemorefun · 08/10/2024 22:23

@Julianne65 you binged 🙀🙀🙀

R.E.M. this is tv paced

No you don’t. It is a completely separate story. But series 1 was very good so well worth watching at some point

Blondeshavemorefun · 09/10/2024 17:46

@kimchiketch they are totally separate so totally diff cast

But

The ending of s1 is why I'm dithering on if he's innocent or not

OP posts:
duc748 · 09/10/2024 17:59

I might watch S1 when this finishes. I'm pretty sure I haven't seen it.

CollaterlieSistersSister · 09/10/2024 18:28

Just caught up, and really enjoyed episode 1. Agree with all the praise for Adeel Akhtar, great actor.

I was initially wondering why we didn’t hear the name that Marcus said to the paramedic, and thought it may not have actually been Justin / paramedic was in on it. But nah, that’s silly isn’t it (although if it was on Channel 5, it’s plausible!) I assume it was to keep the suspense for revealing Officer X a little later - although we all knew it was him anyhow, by the pre-show publicity blurb.

Anyhow, trying to stop myself from bingeing…
