TV PACE THREAD. NO SPOILERS AS IT WILL BE ON I-PLAYER

The BBC teases: "Nightsleeper is a real-time thriller set on a sleeper train travelling from Glasgow to London, while a government agency desperately tries to intervene in the rapidly-escalating events onboard.

"Can two people who’ve never met, one on the train and one not, work together to save the lives of its disparate group of passengers as the Heart of Britain service hurtles towards what might quite literally be its final destination?"

"Abby Aysgarth, the Acting Technical Director at the UK’s National Cyber Security Centre, is finally about to take a well-earned holiday when she receives a phone call that will change everything - the UK railway network is under attack.

Meanwhile Joe Roag, an off-duty cop onboard and hoping for a quiet night. However, over the next six rollercoaster hours, Joe’s about to get anything but, as he and Abby battle both their own distrust and the unpredictable behaviour of the person or persons now in control, desperate to try and stop the Heart of Britain from reaching the end of the line, in more ways than one…"

Joe Cole, who's appeared in hit gangster dramas Peaky Blinders and Gangs of London, plays off-duty cop Joe Roag, while Alexandra Roach, whose screen credits include C4 drama No Offence and period piece Sanditon, stars as cyber security boss, Abby Aysgarth.

The series also stars Alex Ferns (The Devil’s Hour), Sharon Small (The Bay), James Cosmo (Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan), David Threlfall (Shameless), Daniel Cahill (The Control Room) and Lois Chimimba (Vigil).

While an impressive cast is completed by Gabriel Howell (The Fence), Katie Leung (Harry Potter), Leah MacRae (Rosie Molloy Gives Up Everything), Ruth Madeley (Years and Years), Adam Mitchell (Mother’s Day), Pamela Nomvete (Andor), Scott Reid (Maxine), Sharon Rooney (Jerk) and Parth Thakerar (Gangs of London).

Unless I’m mistaken his wife is in labour.

If the oil rig guy works in the North Sea he wouldn't need a satellite phone. The rigs and platforms pretty much all have mobile reception.

But if he worked in the North Sea then why would he be in Glasgow? Wouldn’t he come into Aberdeen then train to Edinburgh and on to London?

So I’m going with either he or his colleague(s) is working in the arse end of nowhere where you’d still need satellite comms.

Some of the rigs are accessed from Shetland so some workers might travel from there to the central belt direct. Although tbf, I think even when going from Shetland, most trips would be via Aberdeen.

Given how ludicrous the whole thing is anyway, I'm not sure why I'm so invested in mobile phone coverage. It's not as if it's the most improbable aspect of the show!

30slifecrisis · 18/09/2024 21:14

Just finished episode 2 of this. It's gripping, and I am going to continue watching, but it's ridiculous and some of the acting is so cringe-worthy!!

I’d think you’d shuttle between Shetland and Aberdeen via the heli services?

I'm sure I've seen this Alexandra Roache before in something but I can't see that I've watched things she's been in from looking on Wikipedia

Maybe the oil rig worker just preferred the satellite phone as it seems to have a longer battery life than normal ones do ( obviously for the sake of 'poetic license ' the writers needed some way around the mobile phone problem too I suppose?)
Not sure what else they would have used to order to communicate with everyone ? Do the drivers have a walkie talkie or radio on board ? Would that have worked maybe ?
The terrorists obviously didn't think someone would have such a device as a sat phone though ! You just wouldn't

I feel like I saw a scene where walkie talkies were picked up by the train staff from a rack but didn’t work.

Jimmy Perez is always getting the plane to Glasgow isn’t he? Maybe the ones direct to London are less frequent and more expensive.

purpleme12 · 18/09/2024 22:05

I'm only on episode one but I can't believe that boy hid from his mum for all that time

And that woman must have been in the toilet for a hell of a long time to have come out and said where is everyone!!

purpleme12 · 18/09/2024 22:07

Almost finished episode one and now thinking it might not be such a good idea to watch this, I go on trains quite often!

We enjoyed it although some parts were silly, the mum of the kid said he was 4 years old didn't she? No way was he 4! Anyway he's learning a hard lesson - natural consequences and all that 😁

She didn't say he was 4, she said 'C4' because they were in carriage 4! 😂

deeahgwitch · 18/09/2024 20:43

The oil rig worker is waiting very impatiently for a phone call.
What information is he desperate to have ?

That's what I said

And we know the person is on the train

He knew phones wouldn't work

Hence the satellite phone

The worst part of this for me is that I can't silence the earworm, aka The BeeGees, which keeps chorusing 'NightSleeper, Nightsleeper' ....etc.

I have 'Daysleeper' by REM in my head every time I see this thread!

purpleme12 · 18/09/2024 23:49

Bloody hell

Blondeshavemorefun · 16/09/2024 22:14

Decided to keep off here so could watch and not miss anything

That was a good hour !!!

Sooooo

Shameless bloke saved the day and got the grid working to see trains. Yah !

Monster of transport aka sharon little is dodgy

They have someone bad on the train

Wondering if oil rig man as I said earlier he knew phones be down and why has a satellite phone

Plus he needs to make a call /use if. Maybe to call the badies

So a small crash but obv not enough to derail on. As another 4 episodes

Abby and paj have just split up so no isn't a couple with the one she was travelling with

He's from brassie

Missed junior and glasses 😂

Still can't beleive drunk is Trev from ee !!!

Did the little boy mouse say he looked like him - it's not going to be his dad is he

I don't understand why I'm e1 he didn't push him out of the doors to his mum

I'm pretty sure that it was his dad that Mouse was saying goodbye to at the station when they got on

purpleme12 · 18/09/2024 23:55

I don't know why so many people are so bothered about what Abby's wearing

IvysMum12 · 19/09/2024 00:03

We're really enjoying it.
It's even keeping DH awake!

purpleme12 · 19/09/2024 00:05

It's a bit scary

purpleme12 · 19/09/2024 01:32

Ah ha!
I know where I've seen Alexandra Roach from now!
It's from The Light in the Hall!

I think if it was him though (the guy with the beard who works on the oil rig), it would be way too obvious. They want viewers to think “ah well it must be him because he has a satellite phone and is desperate to receive this call”, but I think that’s just to try and distract us from the real baddie on the train.

Didn’t they discover there is another satellite phone on board the train? Or some other device. I don’t think whoever has hacked the train planned or expected for somebody to have a satellite phone (the one which they are using to communicate with Abby), as it’s making the whole thing a lot harder for them. Joe hasn’t found the other device yet either, just the gun.

I actually think there’s going to be a huge plot twist and it’s either an inside job or the hacking group is linked to someone who works for the national cyber centre.

HotCrossBunplease · 19/09/2024 07:54

I think it’s the woman who serves the drinks. She’s doing a great job of looking gormless, but at some point will drop the mask and reveal herself to be a slick criminal. She played that exact part in an episode of MacDonald and Dodds!

Sat phone guy way too obvious, as pp says.

Blondeshavemorefun · 19/09/2024 08:17

Oh @HotCrossBunplease maybe. Sharon - she's quite well know. Actress now
