TV PACE THREAD. NO SPOILERS AS IT WILL BE ON I-PLAYER

The BBC teases: "Nightsleeper is a real-time thriller set on a sleeper train travelling from Glasgow to London, while a government agency desperately tries to intervene in the rapidly-escalating events onboard.

"Can two people who’ve never met, one on the train and one not, work together to save the lives of its disparate group of passengers as the Heart of Britain service hurtles towards what might quite literally be its final destination?"

"Abby Aysgarth, the Acting Technical Director at the UK’s National Cyber Security Centre, is finally about to take a well-earned holiday when she receives a phone call that will change everything - the UK railway network is under attack.

Meanwhile Joe Roag, an off-duty cop onboard and hoping for a quiet night. However, over the next six rollercoaster hours, Joe’s about to get anything but, as he and Abby battle both their own distrust and the unpredictable behaviour of the person or persons now in control, desperate to try and stop the Heart of Britain from reaching the end of the line, in more ways than one…"

Joe Cole, who's appeared in hit gangster dramas Peaky Blinders and Gangs of London, plays off-duty cop Joe Roag, while Alexandra Roach, whose screen credits include C4 drama No Offence and period piece Sanditon, stars as cyber security boss, Abby Aysgarth.

The series also stars Alex Ferns (The Devil’s Hour), Sharon Small (The Bay), James Cosmo (Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan), David Threlfall (Shameless), Daniel Cahill (The Control Room) and Lois Chimimba (Vigil).

While an impressive cast is completed by Gabriel Howell (The Fence), Katie Leung (Harry Potter), Leah MacRae (Rosie Molloy Gives Up Everything), Ruth Madeley (Years and Years), Adam Mitchell (Mother’s Day), Pamela Nomvete (Andor), Scott Reid (Maxine), Sharon Rooney (Jerk) and Parth Thakerar (Gangs of London).

Oh yes could be her. I’m thinking possibly the government minister as she’s up to something methinks.

the80sweregreat · 19/09/2024 09:44

Wasn't sure who Abby was with at first, but I think she is just a friend ( not partner )

purpleme12 · 19/09/2024 09:48

Yes she's a friend

Gloriia · 19/09/2024 09:54

purpleme12 · 18/09/2024 23:55

I don't know why so many people are so bothered about what Abby's wearing

Dramas are all about the characters. How they they look, their image is it believable etc.

So yes in theory her awful 80s jeans and bomber jacket are irrelevant but it's just part of the picture. You would expect her to look cool, switched on not all gapey mouthed wearing terrible clothes.

purpleme12 · 19/09/2024 09:56

I quite like her clothes

It's not necessarily something I'd wear but I like some expression of character

the80sweregreat · 19/09/2024 09:59

She was dressed for a holiday flight and probably has to wear the office suits and smarter things when she is at work normally.
Pav makes me laugh though

the80sweregreat · 19/09/2024 13:07

Sorry, didn't mean to be a 'know it all ' below about the clothes situation! It does read a bit sanctimonious, of course people know she wouldn't dress like that for a normal 'work day ' in the office !! Although I admit I wished she'd take the jacket off , but maybe she was cold.
(They didn't spend much on wardrobe for this drama! lol)

Grin

I will stop being so over invested in the 80s jeans and the bomber jacket!

the80sweregreat · 19/09/2024 17:25

No, fair play re the jacket ! It doesn't suit her at all! She probably couldn't be bothered to send it back to freeman's and have to sort that out so she decided to keep it instead !

Strobbery · 19/09/2024 17:30

For sure! That pink wrap around monstrosity on the big boss lady did absolutely nothing for her either!

the80sweregreat · 19/09/2024 17:47

It was back of the wardrobe for these outfits wasn't it!

Blondeshavemorefun · 19/09/2024 20:58

They use satellite phones in very remote places. I remember a correspondent in Africa using one once on the news or in war zones , so oil rigs wouldn't surprise me. I do believe they cost loads.
I do need to watch the first part again though
It was very fast moving

Of course they do. It's not been made up for the tv show 😂😂

the80sweregreat · 20/09/2024 14:15

No, I knew such phones existed before this show ! I suppose it gets around the problem of the normal mobiles being off. Clever really ( the walkie talkies didn't work either someone on here said)

Mil3nnial · 20/09/2024 20:50

ooh this looks up my street!

TitsInAbsentia · 20/09/2024 21:20

I love that methadone mick got himself a wee job 😂

xxSideshowAuntSallyxx · 20/09/2024 21:37

All I keep thinking about when I see Joe Cole in this, is when is Gangs of London back (they're taking their time with series 3).

I've now watched it all so I'll wait for everyones opinions.

Agree about the wardrobe department choices. Abby's jacket is interesting.

It's just a bit clumsy and highly convenient isn't it. What are the chances!

Still i'll ignore that (along with the outfits) as there is definitely an element of tension which is keeping me watching.

the80sweregreat · 21/09/2024 10:30

The first commercial satellite phones were available in 1998 according to the internet , but actually invented in the 50s ( as so much 'space age 'tech was back then)

SabrinaThwaite · 21/09/2024 10:59

DH used to work in remote places in the late 80s and early 90s - they had satellite phones but they were so expensive to use they were just for dire emergencies.

RaraRachael · 22/09/2024 14:37

I lasted about half way through the first episode. Had been recommended by a friend of OH who claimed it was so gripping he'd binge watched the whole lot.

The chase at the beginning went on and on and on and on.
The head of cyber security is totally unbelievable
When the guy who'd been "helping" turned out to be on their most wanted list, I lost the will to continue.

If the train managed to stop at Motherwell God knows what they were going to pad it out with for another five and a half episodes.

I think far fetched will be a big understatement

Blondeshavemorefun · 22/09/2024 15:08
