Is anyone watching? New series with Nicole Kidman?

Her borrowing 300K from shooter made no sense considering the wedding probably cost more than that. I did enjoy it and the pace was good. I like Eve Heuston, shes a good actress and has an untouched face and body that is refreshing. I usually can't watch anything with NK but at least she didn't do that whispering thing she does in absolutely everything now

I agree Eve Hewson is beautiful and not in the overdone bland way that seems to be the Mumsnet ideal.

paranoidnamechanger · 16/09/2024 22:39

It was pretty good, but nothing amazing. I would have preferred more suspense and I struggled to engage and invest with the characters because there were too many of them. I agree with others that Billy Howle was miscast as Benjy and his hair dye job was silly. Big Little Lies and The White Lotus did this kind of thing much better.

I think Tag is certainly in the DILF league, but I've had a thing for Liev Schreiber ever since his Scream days in the 90's, so I'm biased.

Victoriawould24 · 17/09/2024 11:40

I don't really understand why 69 year old Isobel Adjani was cast , what age was her character supposed to be and what was she (the character) even doing there anyway.

Why was Greers brother a cockney and what accent was NK supposed to have?

It was ridiculous when the police brought the brother in to the interview and when she dropped the supposed bomb he was her brother they just went 'oh ok by then' - zero checks that the story added up.

Also agree with PP why would G write a book about Amelia's life.
None of it really made any sense and I thought it had a weird production value that made it all look like an episode of Neighbours or Home and Away especially the outside shots.
Nothing felt particularly luxurious about it.

I thought the whole thing was shite.

It didn't think it was great. Watchable but no more than that.

Nicole Kidman used to be a brilliant actress but this wasn't one of my favourite roles she'd played.

Liev Schrieber as the hot husband doesn't work for me.

Enjoyed Dakota Fanning & Jack Reynor (he was brilliant in What Richard Did)

Eve Hueston - I cannot get passed the abomination that was Behind Her Eyes. Every time I see her in something it reminds me of it.

I haven't seen Behind Her Eyes, but I think she's good in Bad Sisters.

Agree with you, she was.

Maybe the fact Behind her Eyes is so bad, it's skewed my opinion.

Rosybud88 · 17/09/2024 12:32

The show was ok it just felt like a bunch of dead ends rather than any actual mystery or intrigue though. Plot wasn’t the strongest but it was entertaining in the very least.

I quite fancy Liev Schriber though (ever since Ray Donovan) so that didn’t hurt.

LoobyDoop2 · 17/09/2024 17:09

Why was Greers brother a cockney and what accent was NK supposed to have?

Presumably she was originally cockney as well, and the RP was part of her reinvention.

newnamethanks · 18/09/2024 07:36

Telly gangsters have to have a regional accent of some kind. It's compulsory.

Oceangreyscale · 18/09/2024 22:46

I was excited about this at the start but in the end it was only ok, but fun.

I had to skip the dance intro, very cringe.

Nicole Kidman was good in it although she's been in very similar roles before. Her face fits the part so I wasn't distracted (same with Isabel, the characters would have had all the surgery).

Why did Greer know when the jeweller mentioned the bracelet that her husband was having an affair? She found the actual bracelet in his study right? So he could have been about to give it to her? Very indiscreet jeweller!

I also thought the trust would pay out before new baby is born so doesn't make sense.

And the book launch scene was overdone.

And why didn't the police check the story about Greer's brother?

And I didn't understand the significance of the end zoo scene. What on earth does that book have in it when Amelia is probably the character with the least interesting story?!

But still enjoyed it.

Mistymorin · 19/09/2024 10:11

Just finished it, it was just OK. As some PP said, Nicole Kidman's face is off putting, there is no emotion in her face, which is a shame as I think she's not a bad actress. Wonderful filming location!

burnoutbabe · 19/09/2024 18:07

The bracelet she found the receipt and picture on searching.

Then she spotted the bracelet on the girlfriend.

The brother -I assume easy to check they are siblings by the police and they did check it off screen.

Tag must have absolutely stunk with all that smoking and drinking, The weird thing that everyone fancied him was baffling he’s grim.

The wigs and frozen faces are sinister. Why are women on screen not allowed to age?

We think Eve Hewson is the ultimate nepo baby and can’t act for toffee. She’s embarrassing compared with the other proper actors.

Agree it was like a Cluedo game but mildly enjoyable watch for a weeknight. Kept teens interested which is high praise. Want more of the high quality stuff white lotus / big little lies. This was the poor man’s version of those.

CharlotteRumpling · 20/09/2024 06:46

And Tag's terrible singing at every opportunity!

TheaBrandt · 20/09/2024 07:06

The book launch scene 😳. Hated her having to placate him. I had an awful ex who he reminded me of in looks and personality

rivebrokethebanks · 20/09/2024 10:07

Did anyone read the book, wonder how closely it followed it and if the book was better, usually they are.

Just binged this over the week.

Enjoyable tosh really. And I must've fallen asleep because I didn't understand the connection between Amelia and Shooter. They had a chance encounter on a train and then she got with his best mate and denied all knowledge of having seen him before when they officially met?

And this brief meeting on a train meant that they were some star crossed lovers that in a different life would've been together?

I didn't get that Shooter Amelia thing either. And why was Amelia so secretive about being on the B train? I thought she had committed a murder or something.

I'm glad I wasn't the only one. I thought I'd slept through a big reveal and that something happened on/after the train that made her so secretive.

PuppyMonkey · 21/09/2024 17:52

My take on that Shooter/Amelia thing is that she knew straight away where they’d previously met and she probably felt that instant attraction thing then but now that she was with the Other Fella she was trying to play it down and pretend she couldn’t remember etc and kid herself nothing was going on. Maybe!

Wildbird12 · 21/09/2024 19:55

I absolutely loved the dancing at the start... Perhaps it's a marmite thing?!

Thisoldheartofmine · 21/09/2024 20:05

@PuppyMonkey a good theory!
Although maybe now that she was committed to someone else , Amelia was viewing him as the ', one that got away' and this enhanced the pull.

MrsPeterHarris · 23/09/2024 19:59

I really enjoyed it & loved the dancing at the start!

Notmyfirsttimeinthismadhouse · 27/09/2024 09:27

The trust wasn't a plot hole. The murderer was unlikely to have known the full details of the trusts, just the basic elements of youngest child turning 18.

However, unless there was a confession there is no way there would be a conviction with that low level circumstantial evidence - no witnesses, no forensics.

I'm another finding NK and IA faces distracting. NK naturally has very think lips and the lip fillers look great but the robot glass skin is just odd as is her michael Jackson nose.

The youngest son is also a nepo baby - he's Emily Mortimer and Alessandro Nivola's son.

Enjoyable fluff but white lotus does it better.

Cattyisbatty · 27/09/2024 10:39

The French woman’s face was ridiculous- j had to Google her to see what she actually looked like in her prime - she was gorgeous. Why do these women ruin their beautiful faces?
As for the series - meh! I kept on falling asleep so it tells me it didn’t hold my attention enough. Wasn’t keen on any of the characters - Eve Hewson better in Bad Sisters!!
