Is anyone watching? New series with Nicole Kidman?

Yes, that's a major plot hole. Also Tag (strange name) could have denied the baby was his and they'd have to go through DNA tests. So we're talking a year or so. They couldn't put the trust fund on hold because a woman is pregnant with a baby who may or may not be Tag's and may not even be carried to term.

Overall, I enjoyed it but thought the ending was a bit of a damp squib. Someone said they may be setting it up for a series two but I'm not sure what would be left? The story seemed completed.

He could have but didnt.

ShyMaryEllen · 10/09/2024 10:43

I googled in case I'd missed something in the second ending (in the zoo), and found out that in the book the bride's mum was a man. I have no idea how that worked, but assumed the wig was part of that somehow? It seems that there were several changes made to the story, so I stopped reading as I was confused enough. The zoo thing was pointless, I think.

newnamethanks · 10/09/2024 11:07

Wtf? Her mum was a man? Please help me out. I can't face reading the book.

newnamethanks · 10/09/2024 11:09

Zoo ending is setting up Film 2 in which, presumably, Greer's secret past will feature heavily. Thus book.

Nor can I 😂. It was in an article about the differences between the book and the film. It doesn’t make sense, I know.

Ginmonkeyagain · 10/09/2024 16:58

Do they mean perhaps the character and their circumstances was her mum in the programme but was a man in the book ie Aemilia's dad or her dad's male partner or even just a random additional male guest. Film and TV adaptions of books tend to combine or cut characters for budget or time purposes.

Just finished it. Stupid ending but also astonished by the bad London accent of the actor who played the brother.

I liked it. Rubbish obviously, but enjoyable. Isabelle Adjani’s face though!!!!

I know. It makes me sad. Same with Nicole.

Seeing them against similar aged 'Tag' is a stark demonstration of how standards are so different for men and women. We are supposed to think he is a 'hunk' despite his jowls, deep lines, eye bags and grey hair. Yet the women have to disfigure themselves to resemble a creepy version of porcelain dolls.

Ginmonkeyagain · 10/09/2024 17:55

Indeed there were points where it was clear the 20 and 30 something "kids" had more fine lines and wrinkles than the older generation of women.

Maybe, but that would have changed the plot ever so slightly , there wouldn’t have been a murder, and it would have been all about the wedding and poor Amelia would have been trapped in that disfunctional family before you could say prenup.Though we would have got to see the wedding outfits ( what body parts would Merrits dress have displayed, would Tag have shaved for the occasion, what would Greer have worn, how much chest would Shooter show?)

Two things I can’t understand!

Why did Amelia’s mother wear such a terrible wig, I mean I know why she wore it, but why did she choose it?

Why did .Amelia try her wedding dress on in the middle of the night before her wedding?

Other plot holes are available but these really annoyed me.

Amelia’s wedding dress was my favourite thing about the whole show. It was coincidentally very similar to mine 😂

EachandEveryone · 10/09/2024 19:28

I still don’t understand was she a prostitute when he met her and he was mega rich? Or was he a bum and the money was from all her novels? I thought the house had been in the family for years and the family practically ran the town? So, was she ever rich and the boarding school was that all made up?

I think they said that his money was all tied up in trusts and such like, so on a day to day basis they were living off her income from her books. Not sure it made a lot of sense however. I think it's the type of TV where it's best not to give things too much thought!

Well they don’t have to, they chose to, and honestly I think Nicole has softened a lot of the work, she looks fine. I don’t get the hysteria some folks are having. And I do think tag was hot 😜

Disturbia81 · 10/09/2024 20:16

@IcedPurple Exactly, the contrast was stark.

autienotnaughty · 10/09/2024 20:17

I really liked it. By about episode 4 it was fairly obvious who the murderer was going to be but i liked the way different people were put forward as suspects.

I thought tag was an odd fit for Greer but I thought the character was well played. I liked Dakota fanning too.

stanleypops66 · 10/09/2024 20:20

It was watchable but poor acting overall. It really reminded me of the series Revenge with Emily Vancamo. The setting, the mother as matriarch, the family dynamics etc.

Yes, they 'chose' to, but the 'choice' was made in a context where middle aged women are expected to still look 'youthful', while a bloke with jowls, piggy eyes, wrinkles and grey hair can still be considered 'hot'.

As for Nicole looking 'fine', we'll have to agree to disagree on that one.

dierama · 10/09/2024 20:53

SPOILER ALERT

am I the only one who doesn’t think the person they arrested at the end did it? There was no motive.

wasn’t the end scene supposed to suggest the other person did it? And the other character in that scene worked it out because of what their job is

stonkytonk11 · 10/09/2024 21:06

Spoiler!!

@dierama I think it was shown to be her though? She wanted money for the dream house and like pp said the new baby might jeopardise the trust money coming their way.

stonkytonk11 · 10/09/2024 21:07

I don't understand how Tag got all the ladies...I kept thinking he would probably smell quite bad with that stubble, the weed and the booze...

stonkytonk11 · 10/09/2024 21:09

I think the zoo ending was just to show how different Greer was once freed from her marriage and the life she had before which was fake and very high pressure

BiggerBoat1 · 10/09/2024 21:40

I think the zoo ending showed that Greer admired Amelia for being free and independent in a way that she hadn’t been for most of her adult life.

dierama · 10/09/2024 22:05

So why had she, a crime novelist written a book about her? There was nothing to her story apart from “met rich guy, nearly got married, but didn’t”

Yes, that’s how I see it. The book wouldn’t be a page-turner would it?

But there had to be some point to the zoo scene.

I enjoyed it, particularly how they subtly changed the dance.

Edited

Did they?
The lady dancing in the end credits. Was that the writer? Director?

I liked it all. I guessed a few mysteries beforehand but not the main who sone it.

I guessed the end zoo part was she had written the story we had just saw played out?
