It is going through South America.

"The four new famous faces embarking on an epic 12,500 km race of a lifetime are:
Broadcaster Jeff Brazier and his son, Freddy
Actor Kola Bokinni and his cousin, Mary Ellen
Broadcaster Kelly Brook and her husband, Jeremy
Radio 2 host Scott Mills and his husband (then fiancé), Sam"

"Their journey begins in Belém, Northern Brazil - the gateway to the Amazon - and will pass through five checkpoints across the length of South America, to reach the finish line in the Andes, Frutillar in Southern Chile."

I like all of them so far!
I thought KB came across as fun but also adventurous and hard working.
It'd nice to see Kola from Ted Lasso on there. I think we'll see him and his cousin really mature over the series.

Scott and his partner look like brothers!

I said they look really similar too!

The Braziers look weighed down with extra baggage. I wonder if the tent is allowed. Good way of saving money on accommodation if it is. But it looks like it will slow them down

It must be allowed. They've had tents in previous series

purpleme12 · 17/08/2024 23:10

I don't find Kelly annoying

I often don't have the same strong negative feelings towards people as some on these RATW threads I'm sure

So far Kola and Mary are my favourite. I felt bad for them being so far behind

ClaudineMallory · 18/08/2024 06:14

I agree, I quite liked Kelly. I think the issue may be Jeremy's competitive approach. I like all of them really, we'll see how they get on. This is a good one, because Brazil is so vast and not so many people are English speakers.

ellebelli · 18/08/2024 15:07

I agree,I don't tend to find the same people annoying that others do.
I like joe swash on celeb masterchef and everyone on here hated him haha.
However I find Jeff false.

malificent7 · 20/08/2024 08:01

Kelly's boobs are outstanding! I quite like her.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 20/08/2024 15:47

MrsLargeEmbodied · 20/08/2024 15:48

i liked Kelly
i dont know who she is

She was famous in the 90s. Page 3 model I believe and then went on to present tv shows.

Does anyone know how the checkpoints works?
I'm really confused with when the first couple get to go, sometimes it's 4am and sometimes they leave before the last couples arrive. How many hours do they get at checkpoint?

They stay for 24 hours. They have enforced rest and get laundry done etc.

Tuyouyou · 20/08/2024 16:57

It's not always 24 hours though

ClaudineMallory · 20/08/2024 16:59

It is.

ClaudineMallory · 20/08/2024 17:01

ClaudineMallory · 20/08/2024 16:59

It is.

Actually, I've just seen sometimes it's 36 hours - is that what you meant?
Anyway, it's an enforced break of the same length for each couple.

Tuyouyou · 20/08/2024 17:12

Yes I'm wondering how they decide, how many hours the enforced stop is at the checkpoint. It would make sense if it was the same at each checkpoint.
Sometimes it doesn't give an advantage to be first at checkpoint as your leave time could be inconvenient with the train/bus timetables. I'm baffled how the couples don't seem to factor this in to their strategies and they just seem to be focused on wanting to be first.

diian · 20/08/2024 17:16

I think they get 36 hours at each checkpoint so if you arrive at 3pm, you leave at 3am 36 hours later. Not sure you get any advantage leaving at that time, but leaving at 10pm must be a nightmare too as you suddenly have to find and pay for accommodation is there is no overnight transport.

Tablefor4 · 20/08/2024 17:17

Ah - @Tuyouyou apparently, that's because on each leg there are usually 2 main routes, and the couples can choose their preference, but for interest, not everyone can pick the same one so the earlier departers get first dibs.

Like you, I couldn't understand the rush on intermediate stages.

ClaudineMallory · 20/08/2024 17:17

I see your point, @Tuyouyou , but they spend the time planning as well. So if they know they can leave at 4am, so they can plan accordingly.

diian · 20/08/2024 17:28

They don't find out until 4am where the next check point is.

They don't find out until 4am where the next check point is.

That's true, diian! I suppose they could get familiar with taxis and see if buses run.

ThePoshUns · 20/08/2024 17:41

Ah I didn't realise about this . Will have to watch on catch up thank you/

Tuyouyou · 20/08/2024 20:56

The hours don't seem to add up. I'm watching series 2, as I missed it before. In this episode team 1 arrives 9.38 team 2 arrives 15.30. Teams 3 and 4 are 24 hours behind. Team 1 then leaves at 6am which is almost 48 hours. Who decides the timings on when they can leave? And why?

Tuyouyou · 20/08/2024 21:03

Oh and team 2 have left an hour after team 1! Why did they not wait 6 hours?

purpleme12 · 20/08/2024 21:08

you could look up the thread for that series 😂
