Couldn't see a new thread (please delete if there is one!)
So, currently broadcast (and just caught up with) Friday 2nd August. Recap:

Lauren - given birth to baby boy at 24 weeks after Joel hid labour inducing drugs in her soup
Jack - been charged with arson with intent to endanger life (Hope seemed pleased!)
Paul - going to donate his corneas to MND research, much to Bernie's dismay
Beth - lost box of fake t-shirts and told Carla where to stuff her job

What else?

Billy has only know /been with Paul X amount of years.

Poor Bernie has to live with the guilt that she sent him /to agreed for him to go / live with the abuser dad .

I understand if fizz doesn’t keep the baby however, unless they have some hidden debt they should be bringing in at least 2500 a month with no mortgage. I’m sick of her banging on about money. Why don’t they go to b and m and sodding decorate or do something with that house it always looks so messy.

Yes this drives me mad, they both have full time jobs, no mortgage, no travel costs, no childcare costs, no school fees, they should be minted.

Exactly he’s on a good wage for acting himself . Hes dim in real life fair enough but they make him even more the village idiot

Clawdy · 05/10/2024 07:54

How do you know he's "dim in real life "??

Cural · 05/10/2024 10:22

Kirky's happily married with kids irl, he seems perfectly fine on chat shows.

One thing I don't get... Why did they make out that Paul was into 1990s raves? Paul was born in 1990, and would not have been going to any adult nightclubs, until around 2010. Raves were popular and common some 15-18 years earlier... Poor bit of writing there. Made no sense.

FeltCarrot · 05/10/2024 11:04

He would have been too young for all the Madchester stuff that was going on too.

Shellingbynight · 05/10/2024 11:32

I agree, the rave was all about Bernie, Paul was a child in the 90s and we never saw him take any interest in raves in all the time he was on screen. At least Bernie and the vicar have now made up, although it will all go bang again when she inevitably finds out the vicar tried to kiss Todd.

There is a real lack of connection between characters now. I cannot remember the last time Fizz even spoke to Paul, and I’m not sure Tyrone ever has. Half the street have never even clapped eyes on Joel, whereas in the old days everyone interacted Charlie Stubbs or Hillman in the Rovers twice a week.

Yes it made Bernie look quite infantile. Wasn't she busy bringing up her dc and the teenagers were at the raves at the time

WiddlinDiddlin · 05/10/2024 17:13

No, Bernie was almost never busy bringing up her DC, because she was out raving all the time...

But yes I don't quite grasp the rave thing for Paul as you say, the dates do not add up at all. I was born in 1980 and went to very few raves as the whole thing was dying off as I hit 16/17.

AmusedMaker · 05/10/2024 17:18

Fizz won’t terminate the baby.

And surely Bernie is too old for the Manchester rave scene?
she must be almost 60?
She would have been pushing 30 in the early 90’s.

Shellingbynight · 05/10/2024 18:42

Raves aside - we saw Gail! Great to see her after so long. And I love that David still calls her Gail.

Is that a spoiler, @BirthdayRainbow ? I have no idea who you're talking about, and don't recall any mention of that person last night.

I thought the same. Paul was much too young to have been to a rave. Sloppy writing.
Weird having rave during the day ( who were all those people?) and how much would those fireworks have cost! It's only a few months ago that Gemma and family were supposedly practically penniless.

Who was babysitting the quads whilst all this was going on

I really hope not as it is a person coming in and it was well reported about the departure. Apologies if anyone is annoyed.

If it hasn't happened in the show it's a spoiler. Even if it's been "well reported"

Re raves, I was born in 84, so too young for raves with drink and drugs. But often attended under 18s nights and school disco. Which all contained an element of "rave"

The quads are always conveniently forgotten about until needed for a storyline.Gemma always seems readily available to work in the Rovers for example.
The whole idea of the quads was a stupid mistake.

TellingBone · 05/10/2024 19:29

A lot of us here go to great lengths to avoid seeing such 'well reported' items about the soaps we watch.

I wonder whether the Turkish lipo place will have to stump up for Bethany's care to avoid a scandal? They know they're on the back foot, hence the pathetic offer a few days ago. Obviously Sarah will find out about Damon's offer whether it's taken up or not.

BirthdayRainbow · 05/10/2024 19:39

I'll ask for it to be deleted

Well the actress who plays Bernie (Jane Hazlegrove) is 56 - born 1968 - so I guess maybe Bernie is meant to be about the same age? Gemma and Paul were born in 1990 - so she would have been 22 when they were born. So, she was old enough to be out at raves...

Even so, as has been said - she would surely have been looking after her 2 babies wouldn't she? Then again, I do know people who had babies in their younger years, and dumped them on other people while they went out partying/ clubbing/ raving!

Bernie dumping her twins on someone and going out to raves, is more believable than Paul going out to raves at 2-3 years old! 😆

I have to say I did enjoy raving Dev! 😆 Made me LOL.

Another weird thing that didn't add up though, is that LOADS of people were at the rave in the street, (even some people I hadn't seen before as another poster said.) How come all these people weren't at Paul's funeral?
