Anyone else watching? It’s all kicking off at 6:30pm, apparently with the athletes parade first.

London 2012 OC was remarkable, I’m hoping the French can match that magic!

I don’t think it will ever be topped. An era-defining work of performance art. I fill up just thinking about it.

I was really bigging it up to the kids, how they must watch it as it’s a really good ‘show’. I’m disappointed. Hopefully the closing ceremony will be different.

Visually this is mostly pants. It’s not great to have half a boat randomly drifting across the screen, and then a caption's plonked on top as well. With loads of other stuff happening on the quais which they then have to cut to/away from. It’s just not a made-for-TV spectacle but 99% + of the audience will be watching it that way.

Yes, it's very Eurovision cheap 'n' cheerful, not very Olympics. Ripe for sending up.

It's all a bit underwhelming so far IMO.
I think holding the ceremony in an arena creates more of an atmosphere.
