I can’t see a thread yet but please do point me in the right direction if there is one!

Anyone else watching? It’s all kicking off at 6:30pm, apparently with the athletes parade first.

London 2012 OC was remarkable, I’m hoping the French can match that magic!

You're mistaken. We want to enjoy it!

You don't want to enjoy it. All you want to do is to compare it to the London opening ceremony - which I don't remember as being any more special than any other. A typical "Britain is Best" thread.

M.

Is it nearly over?

We've only had an hour and three quarters. We aren't half way through yet.

Really dont get the hate for Paris. It's a beautiful place.

It stinks, nothing there of any note once you see Blackpool Tower.

the80sweregreat · 26/07/2024 20:13

The French will do a Gaelic shrug and blame ' global warming '

Kudos to the BBC researchers who have provided Andrew Cotter and Hazel Irvine with all the wee facts about every team, every country and every flag.

Yes. I;m loving hearing about all these countries, we've been to lots of them but I'm ignorant about some of the facts

Yes - I'm enjoying learning about the countries more than the ceremony itself

Andrew Cotter saying that it won't be long before hula hooping becomes an Olympic sport 😅

DodoTired · 26/07/2024 20:13

does anyone know where the cauldron will be? I presume they all end up near the Eiffel tower?

Apolloneuro · 26/07/2024 20:13

I was really looking forward to this, but not enjoying it.

True, but being wet makes your temp drop and makes you more vulnerable to virus transmission.

Prince Philip came down with a bladder infection after the 2012 regatta,

He's a counter tenor, no early "surgery" required. He's got a mic so no reason to believe he's not singing

I don't. Have you read my comments? I love French culture and am confused why it's not being given the best chance to be showcased.

I agree- being wet and cold for prolonged periods can lower your immune system, making you more likely to an illness like a cold.

Britain is a lot better than France on numerous levels

Since when has there been a country called Micronesia???

Someone's just made that up!

munchbunch12 · 26/07/2024 20:15

Borrowed from another thread on this, posted by ColonelRhubarbBikini...

Edit, it won't let me post the pic, but it's basically Rishi Sunak stood at a podium with a sign saying 'stop the boats' on it

KnickerlessParsons · 26/07/2024 20:15

Prince Philip came down with a bladder infection after the 2012 regatta,

And that was really the beginning of the end for him.

I don't think people are hating on Paris, it is beautiful, if a bit wet.

It's just that the whole production would have been better in one place. Anyone in the crowd will only be able to see a tiny part and it's very disjointed.

LookItsMeAgain · 26/07/2024 20:15

I’m thinking the faceless torch carrier is whoever that magician was in BGT a few years ago

Supergirl1958 · 26/07/2024 20:15

Nothing will ever be a patch on London for me. I was late to the party (I was at a pre booked appointment) but I really have no idea what it actually happening!!

I was a stadium gamesmaker so at the opening ceremony in 2012!

Yes but it is July in Paris so it is unlikely to make you cold enough to get sick! More likely to catch Covid from close proximity to others.
Anyway I am enjoying!
I think it is nice to see the teams sailing down the Seine.

Well I’m Irish and the London opening ceremony was a lot better than this.
