I can’t see a thread yet but please do point me in the right direction if there is one!

Anyone else watching? It’s all kicking off at 6:30pm, apparently with the athletes parade first.

London 2012 OC was remarkable, I’m hoping the French can match that magic!

It was someone with a 'vision ' who wanted all this. Unfortunately it didn't translate ( and they didn't think about any rain )

I'm watching with headphones and the sound of rain is overwhelming. Sounds like static.

That’s so odd, on French tv I can’t hear the rain at all, sound is really good

motheronthedancefloor · 26/07/2024 20:03

I'd be pissed if I was in a tiny boat or tiny corner compared to other countries, and getting soaked through too. I wonder how many athletes will get chest infections affecting their performance?

they would have to go some to beat London. I can still recall the section during the Industrial Revolution bit where they poured some molten metal into a circular ring, which was then hoisted into the air to form part of the olympic rings. Just a stroke of imaginative brilliance.

As i mentioned upthread - I was at the dress rehearsal. I had a terrible mobile phone at the time and only took a few snaps. This one shows the rings as they were coming together. In the rehearsal one of them didn't light up at all but it obviously worked ok on the official ceremony. In this pic the sky is still fairly light because the rehearsal started at 4pm on the Monday before, but on the Friday it started later so if you see pics from that, then it's a lot darker.

I’ve worked it out, it’s a subliminal tribute to Dunkirk.

purplevipersgrass · 26/07/2024 20:03

Are we supposed to feel any better about having two men (a male athlete and a simpering drag queen) with the flame yesterday because now we have a whole section dedicated to wobbly plastic statues women?

Moonshine5 · 26/07/2024 20:03

Love the 10 feminist statues

Cattyisbatty · 26/07/2024 20:04

I feel like I’m watching a different event!!! I think it’s all stunning and beautiful and culturally spot on for Paris!!!

CheeseCakeSunflowers · 26/07/2024 20:04

It reminds me of the 2012 Diamond Jubilee Pageant on the Thames, that was a disappointing wash out too.

YesIReallyDoLikeRootBeer · 26/07/2024 20:04

Surprised by all the comments about the sound of the rain. No sound problems on American TV and dont hear the rain at all

HonestMistake · 26/07/2024 20:05

He'll be here.

The gold statues of women - when the descriptions mentioned 'abortion' both times the graphics immediately disappeared

I thought it was readable and obvious. Pretty bold choice - good on them.

Cherrypi · 26/07/2024 20:05

I'm concerned someone's going to slip off something in the rain, particularly when the guy was running along the wet roof.

Bathymamouth · 26/07/2024 20:05

I'm getting very worried about people getting ill now. They must have been on these boats for hours!

i think we out to send a load of small boats over to rescue our guys from this atrocity

Hangingupnow · 26/07/2024 20:05

It’s all a bit odd which is quite French tbf 😆

Ciochan · 26/07/2024 20:06

These Alice in Wonderland barges look awfully slippery for the stunt bikers/break dancers/hula hoopists...

JaneJeffer · 26/07/2024 20:06

It's only a bit of rain. It's not going to kill them!

KnittedCardi · 26/07/2024 20:06

You can't hear the rain on iplayer. Pop over to UHD. Much better visually and sound.

TellyUsername · 26/07/2024 20:06

Why do I think the conclusion to this thread will be all of us saying "I loved it!"

Nice sentiment but executed really badly, I thought. Popping up out of boxes. It was odd.

Dying!!!

MrsLeonFarrell · 26/07/2024 20:06

I wonder if the rain is coming via the BBC commentary rather than the main feed?
