Anyone else watching? It’s all kicking off at 6:30pm, apparently with the athletes parade first.

London 2012 OC was remarkable, I’m hoping the French can match that magic!

Apparently Macron's instruction to the organisers was to outdo London.

Anyone been to Puy de Dome? It's jaw dropping, the French are usually so good at these big events, and son et lumière. What on earth is going on?

The crowd aren't looking that keen, can't blame them really. The boats aren't close and most of the performers are on film or stuck on buildings.

Eric Guillon who designed and voices them is French. Despicable Me was directed by a Frenchman (Pierre Coffin) and the franchise is animated at a Paris animation studio (Illumination).

I don't really get it. Maybe it's better IRL. Hopefully this is a warm up to the big event. It's a shame it's raining, the sunset would have been amazing.

Agree can can girls were rubbish, but am enjoying the ceremony as a whole. It's different and original. Not just loads of folk in tracksuits millling round a track,waving.

It's not great and we're all watching on TV. I can't imagine how crap it is actually being there in person. It's very disjointed and the atmosphere is nothing like being in a stadium
