The off screen noises. So horrifying and heartbreaking.

Can discuss now, yes?

Dragon roulette appears more dangerous than Russian roulette!

Loved the opening and closing scenes, with Aemond fleeing and Rhaenyra looking like a queen at last!

Also loved the tongue lashing Oscar Tully gave Daemon. He deserves it.

And loved best the dark warning of the dragon keepers " Dragons are not to be the playthings of men" ( paraphrased). But they will be.

I thought it was rather unconvincing the way Ulf miraculously stumbled on Silverwing. In fact, all the dragons finding riders so quickly was a bit unconvincing, but I guess they need to wrap it up in the next episode so have to hurry things along.

MayIDestroyYou · 30/07/2024 10:59

Yes, the pacing of this season has been problematic.

But Ulf’s face, his eyes - when he realised where he was and what he’d disturbed. Even though he’s a plank it would have been impossible not to feel sorry for him!

PrincessConsuelaBag · 30/07/2024 11:15

I feel like it’s just got interesting and the seasons about to end next week. 🤷‍♀️

enjoyed this weeks ep!

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 30/07/2024 11:36

Has anyone got any idea about the wild dragon that it looks like Rhaena might claim? I don't think that subplot is coming across clearly

MayIDestroyYou · 30/07/2024 11:43

An egg that was stolen long ago? (The growing dragon having fried the thief?)

Or perhaps a dragon that was presumed, and left for, dead aeons ago, so no one now living remembers it.

Or … The undocumented dragon of an undocumented Dragonseed, left abandoned after the death of its rider?

🤷‍♀️

Without the benefit of literature I’m going to assume it will turn out to be the biggest and best yet - thus enabling her to go on to iconic status in the dynasty as the most legendary dragon rider.

I do. Because I read the book But I don't want to spoil it for anyone. They have combined two characters from the book so....

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 30/07/2024 11:54

@LobeliaBaggins

I have also read the book but my memory is shocking these days

Trixiefirecracker · 30/07/2024 15:48

Finally stuff starts happening and only one more episode to go!!!🙄 Loved the dragons in this.

MayIDestroyYou · 30/07/2024 16:20

Can I proffer another guess?

That next week The Master of Laws will admit he brought news of a new dragon rider but was told to keep schtum by The Master of Whisperers. This will be the end of Larys.

Have I missed something but didn’t this kind of happen in this episode?

MayIDestroyYou · 30/07/2024 17:06

Has he told Aemond the Regent that Larys is responsible for the Greens not having advance warning of the gathering of dragons in the House of their enemies?

(If that’s happened then I missed the consequences. And that initial conversation seemed quite important.)

The plotting is amazing in Game of Thrones, especially once you get into season 2, but the production values of season 1 need some allowance made for them once you're used to how gorgeous modern TV with an infinite budget can look.

Also the sexposition is really awful.

I haven't rewatched it, as the final season was so bad.

Also - too much misery porn for me

MayIDestroyYou · 31/07/2024 15:49

Reading this fairly detailed, and quite jaunty, recap - it doesn’t seem as if any punishment has yet been meted out to Larys for not telling about Seasmoke’s new rider.

To quote the writer ‘I pray to the old gods and the new’ - that Aemond inflicts some truly grisly schooling for Larys’ failure to whisper sufficiently.

‘House of the Dragon,’ Season 2, Episode 7: Recruiting dragonseeds bears dragonfruit

Rhaenyra goes looking for a few good men and finds them; Daemon dithers.

Thanks @MayIDestroyYou for those great links. Loved the Vulture piece with "You get a dragon, you get a dragon"! 😂I wish the showrunnners had realised earlier that everybody is only interested in dragons- that's what makes the Targaryens interesting- not Daemon sleeping with his mum and Rhaenyra-Mysaria's pathetic kiss out of nowhere.

Some of your guesses are right, some wrong, some I can't answer because memory hazy ( the book was very hard going ) I think it's ok for me to say that Rhaena does not become the most accomplished dragon rider of all time!
Larys has not been punished yet for his mess-up; I expect that will come in the finale. I think we will also see Tessarion in the finale.

They've changed Rhaena's plot completely. In the book she doesn't get a dragon but it's looking an awful lot as if she will in the show. We can guess which dragon she'll get and which book character she'll be replacing but we can't know for certain. Or maybe they're just teasing us and they'll go down the book route after all (I'd prefer that tbf).

Don't hold your breath for Larys' comeuppance - remember how long it took Littlefinger to get the throat slashing he so richly deserved?

LobeliaBaggins · 03/08/2024 10:37

Rhaena's character has been combined with that of Nettles, as I remember.

Probably, but we don't know for certain. I'd love her to go round the corner of the mountain and find Nettles.

[nerdy sidebar please ignore] Also if Rhaena tames that dragon now then Addam and Alyn's story loses an important beat which I'd have thought they'd want to keep (though I guess they could shift it elsewhere)

Great stuff (and no spoilers):

‘How House of the Dragon’s Ewan Mitchell became TV’s most chilling villain’

https://www.thetimes.com/article/e3827826-cb08-41c2-9a6d-0f853aaf5dff?shareToken=5495968f47ea29648ab10e44a007d1af

Is Aemond really a villain though? He's definitely not as black and white as, say, Joffrey or Ramsey Bolton and although he has a personal vendetta against his brother (can't really blame him), he doesn't seem cruel just for the sake of it.

MayIDestroyYou · 03/08/2024 12:10

It must feel very fortunate, as a young actor, to find a role that just seems made for you, and you for it. What surprised me about reading that article was that it had never occurred to me that Aemond was being acted. Amongst all my complaints about the show, Aemond seems whole and complete and real. I certainly can’t imagine anyone else in the role and this actor may well have made more of it than even the writers imagined. It’s a fairly astonishing achievement.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 03/08/2024 12:31

He is doing such a good job this could be the kickstart of a great career for him the way a supporting role in Game Of Thrones was for so many. I like the way he's 100% believable as Daemon's real nephew as well

TinselAngel · 03/08/2024 12:31

He's good in The Last Kingdom too.

TammyJones · 03/08/2024 14:34

Agree.
It has become my favourite character.
I hope the actor goes far.
