The off screen noises. So horrifying and heartbreaking.

Thanks, they are all double-related so it must be something like that 😀

LoobyDoop2 · 23/07/2024 18:08

I’m not finding it as gripping as GoT. I used to sit completely transfixed the first time I watched every episode, whereas now I keep stopping to comment or look things up. So maybe a fair amount of the interest is for hardcore fans?

It seemed a foolish decision to start working through the legitimate extended family first, given that they were 3rd cousins, rather than go and find the unacknowledged bastards in Kings Landing who appear to be direct descendants and therefore half Targ. Surely the success rate would be higher and failures less likely to alienate half the noble families? I guess the natural consequence of insane snobbery.

And I find it increasingly weird the way Alicent just accepts two of her children being married. Incest was taboo for non-Targs, and she wasn’t raised that way.

Trixiefirecracker · 24/07/2024 08:10

I’m finding it pretty hard going. Nothing too much to get excited about. One dragon fight out of how many episodes does not a GofT make. Needs more action and less pontificating round a dirty table.

Invisablepanic · 24/07/2024 08:35

I wouldn't mind the pontificating around a dirty table if the dialogue was as amazing as GOT. The council meetings with Varys, Tywin, Little finger and the rest were fantastic whereas in HOD they don't seem to have that punch.

I just struggle with the idea of having a character like Daemon, building him up and seeing the audience reaction to him in S1 to sideline him in S2. I always think dream sequences/hallucinations should be kept to a maximum of one person season, very few people ever seem to like them.

TammyJones · 24/07/2024 13:33

@Invisablepanic
Agree
Daemon was my favourite character
He's got so boring
Still love the show though

Buffypaws · 28/07/2024 13:45

The hallucinations are dire! They just don’t know what to do with him while he’s in Harrenhal.

the dragon scenes were good this week. That’s about it. The Mysaria kiss was dreadful.

Agree
Daemon has become a snooze feast.
And the kiss was completely pointless ( I was willing them not to go there)

MayIDestroyYou · 28/07/2024 18:01

Is that not how it happens in the books? (Daemon all alone.)

Perhaps Matt Smith had to film at a different time to the main body of the cast, because of other work?

SapatSea · 28/07/2024 18:57

Season 2 is a total snoozefest. The writing is poor. Mysaria is so very dull and WTF was that kiss about, especially after what Mysaria had just told Rhaenyra? Aemond should come with a puff of smoke and as for all the boring Daemon hallucinations.... I missed a few weeks and nearly didn't start again.

readingmakesmehappy · 28/07/2024 21:55

I see from the IG account that Alys Rivers features this week. I have absolutely no sense of her as a character at all. Even with Simon Russell Beale the Harrenhal sequences are sure.

DIRE. I meant dire.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 28/07/2024 22:04

Yes as a big Matt Smith fancier even I am tired of Daemon's arc!

MayIDestroyYou · 29/07/2024 10:13

Anyone watched yet?

I decided I needed my sleep. And this morning is too pretty for dragons and dungeons.
🌞🌞🌞

MayIDestroyYou · 29/07/2024 16:37

I take it all back. Grin

This is not GOT light. This is an entirely different beast, only now coming into its own.

That was so exciting!!!

Lovewine1975 · 29/07/2024 16:52

@MayIDestroyYou I'm excited for tonight's episode now!!

LobeliaBaggins · 29/07/2024 19:34

I liked this episode, pretty much. Will wait till tomorrow to discuss.
Another thing I like about HoD versus GoT is that there is no pointless female nudity.

WinterIsComingKnitFaster · 29/07/2024 21:13

Urgent question. I'm just about to start watching episode 7, which I understand to have lots of Dragon Action. Can I watch it with teen DS who isn't big on plot manoeuvres but loves the dragons, or are people going to have oral sex with their mother (again)?

WinterIsComingKnitFaster · 29/07/2024 21:17

I called him in for the battle of Rooks Rest because I was definitely sure that nobody was going to have sex in the middle of that - he's quite old enough to watch tv sex scenes but not with me he's not because Cringe.

MayIDestroyYou · 29/07/2024 21:21

No one has time for that sort of thing this week, @WinterIsComingKnitFaster!

Thicker skin is what’s needed.

As in I need thicker skin?
or as in certain would-be dragon riders could do with asbestos underwear?

MayIDestroyYou · 29/07/2024 21:33

Oh - characters!

Grin
LoobyDoop2 · 29/07/2024 21:50

That was so exciting! And three new characters I really like- Adam, Huw and especially the new Lord Tully.

Yes. Mucho dragons no sex!

Lovewine1975 · 29/07/2024 22:11

What an episode!!! The dragons were magnificent!

MayIDestroyYou · 29/07/2024 22:39

The opening scene … 😍 Cinematic in the best way.

Really liked the way that just as Daemon was reintegrated into society, Alicent removed herself from it and struck out on her own.

That little Lord Tully … he’s a one! I had almost forgotten how the inherited power and influence of certain children played a huge part in distinguishing GOT from any other mythical/fantasy drama. And added to the wild insecurity characters lived with.

I do like the way dragons make … connections. Think we should have a few on dating apps.
