Lost Boys & Fairies is a three-part series that starts on BBC1 from Monday June 3 at 9pm with episodes running weekly at the same time.

Lost Boys & Fairies is a powerful new drama on BBC One that advocates for the rights of the gay community to parent a child. It stars Sion Daniel Young as Gabriel, a singer and performer who works at the queer nightclub, Neverland, who adopts a child with his partner, Andy (Fra Fee).

But to truly be able to parent his son Jake, Gabriel must first revisit his own painful past and repair the fractured relationship he has with his own father.

Lost Boys & Fairies features a mix of Welsh language scenes and singing performances as it follows Gabriel (Sion Daniel Young), a singer and ‘artiste-extraordinaire’ who performs at the queer club Neverland in Cardiff.

The drama begins as Gabriel and his partner Andy are encouraged by their social worker, Jackie (Elizabeth Berrington), to attend a special event where they can meet children up for adoption.

It’s there that the couple first come across seven-year-old Jake (Leo Harris). But while Andy, who works as an accountant, is convinced Jake is a great match for them, Gabriel remains hesitant as he struggles with his own painful memories and issues from his childhood and dad Emrys (William Thomas).

but before he can throw himself into parenthood, Gabriel must come to terms with his own traumatic childhood. And part of the process is healing the rifts between him and his own dad

Starring as singer Gabriel, aka Gabe, in Lost Boys & Fairies is Sion Daniel Young. Gabe lives with his partner Andy but things aren't easy.
"Andy and Gabe have a gorgeous relationship. They’ve been together for eight years and are keen to start a family. However, there are lots of things that Gabe has tried to keep under wraps. And as the adoption process gets underway it brings them all to the surface.

Gabe lost his mum when he was a child. The strained relationship with his dad defines his inability at times to manage the adoption process.

The series is incredibly emotive and beautiful written by Daf James, who has gone through his own experience of adoption.

I was floored when I first read the scripts. The overriding theme is love!"

Half way through and really liking it.
Is this Victoria park in Hackney? I know it's tv but what do they do for a living? One is a singer? Very lush lifestyles. It must have been so difficult for people in the 80s.

SoupDragon · 04/06/2024 16:22

Andy is an accountant.

It was brilliant wasn't it? Just so well done. I've worked with adoptees and their families, and I just cried watching lots of this. I've been thinking about it all day.

SoupDragon · 04/06/2024 19:27

Loved it. Will be back once everyone's caught up!

Filthycop · 06/06/2024 00:18

I just sobbed for an hour and a half. Loved it... took me a while to realise that Celyn was Shakeel from Eastenders - he's grown up a lot!

But this was a beautiful show - so glad I watched it - even if it broke me too

I think the house is on Victoria Park Road East in Canton, Cardiff. A 5/6 bed house there, facing the park, will set you back around £600-650k - which is pricey by Cardiff standards.

Andy is an accountant. The suggestion that Gabriel is earning a full time income from singing in gay bars is a little fanciful though!

Fantastic show. Darker than I thought it was going to be to be honest. I thought the actress who played the birth mother gave a fantastic performance.

Fishcake18 · 06/06/2024 08:28

Looking forward to watching this.

Showmethebagels · 06/06/2024 08:37

I loved this but sadder than I expected which threw me! Agree with pp about birth mother!

Blondeshavemorefun · 06/06/2024 11:43

We haven't seen BM yet as assume that's E 2/3 and only seen 1

So no more mentions please

Thanks

Thought this was a bit shit, tbh. Bland in general, crap direction and writing in the first episode, and full of cliché’s.

Blondeshavemorefun · 06/06/2024 15:02

Tbh @westisbest1982 I didn't like the first time I watched but I was very tired

Tried the next day and thought e1 was amazing

We’re hoping to start this at the weekend, I saw Fra Fee in Cabaret and he was very good.

Longcovider · 06/06/2024 22:33

I've just finished this. I cried my way through it, amazing tv

Twonewcats · 07/06/2024 00:53

And this kind of programme is why we need BBC to remain as is.
59 minute episodes, something a bit different, but without having to resort to the shock factor.
