StellaGibson2022 · 01/05/2024 06:23

Oh. Ive been waiting! How annoying

MerylSqueak · 01/05/2024 07:00

Homeland maybe but I'm not sure what service it's on.

The Wire is the best.

Whole you're deciding, The Bodyguard is a cracker though short. I watched it on player but it was a while ago.

SheilaFentiman · 01/05/2024 07:11

Homeland is on Netflix.

I thought Manifest was also on Netflix, at least partly. @Yetmorebeanstocount there are 4 seasons of it so be sure you have access to them all and not just the first one.

SomeBollocks · 01/05/2024 07:12

The Americans

JoJothegerbil · 01/05/2024 07:20

I enjoyed both The Americans and Homeland.

Manifest is on Netflix, seasons 1,2 and 4, but season 3 is still on Sky/Now and doesn't expire until June 2025 from there.

CormorantStrikesBack · 01/05/2024 07:33

The Americans, no idea what platform it's on.

OhYoko · 01/05/2024 07:41

Someone might have already said this but Line of Duty.

jobessieandme · 01/05/2024 07:42

The Sopranos
The Wire
Mad Men
Game of Thrones
Breaking Bad

I also really enjoyed The Romanoffs a few years ago but it was just one season as opposed to a sweeping box set.

RagzRebooted · 01/05/2024 07:43

If you don't mind the adverts, ITVx has some great shows. 12 Monkeys is long and quite drama/sci-fi.

FeatheryStroker · 01/05/2024 07:44

Larkrise to Candleford on ITV

ASighMadeOfStone · 01/05/2024 07:53

The Americans is on Channel 4

I'm halfway through rewatching, first watched it on Netflix.

@EineReiseDurchDieZeit I never realised (or possibly forgot) that your username comes from Dark. We still laugh about Dark (me, DD and my friend) how we'd all synchronise watching an episode with notepads and family trees and Dark wiki to try and make sense.

Whatineed · 01/05/2024 08:02

Don't think I've seen it mentioned but Fargo is on Amazon?

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 01/05/2024 08:38

@ASighMadeOfStone

Yes it's the name of the book! The one written by HG Tannhaus that seems to have no origin.

Noted that you don’t want police or crime stuff.

Can you clarify when you say no other platforms, do you specifically mean no other subscription services, or are you excluding the apps for ITV, channels 4 and 5 and the Drama app I linked to above, which are all free to air?

There are two series of six episodes of The Newsreader on Iplayer and I enjoyed that more than The Morning Show. It’s set in mid 80s Australia and references real life events.

That said, for people who have Apple+ or who take a trial, there’s quite a bit on there. The Morning Show as mentioned, Slow Horses which is brilliant, highly acclaimed, but about spies and so sits alongside the crime genre. The New Look, which I also loved. Set in Paris during World War II. Ostensibly about couture fashion, Coco Chanel and Christian Dior, it’s about so much more. Would recommend.

NZDreaming · 01/05/2024 10:12

‘Hell on Wheels’ is a great series set in the American west, I think it’s on Amazon and has 5 or 6 seasons.

‘what we do in the shadows’ is a fantastic series about vampires living in America. It’s on iplayer and is extremely well written, very funny.

‘Colin from accounts’ is on iplayer, unfortunately only one series so far but really good scripts/acting. Comedy drama.

if you do end up getting Netflix I can highly recommended ‘Love’ and ‘Loudermilk’ both are 3 or 4 seasons and are extremely accurate portrayals of real life, a lot of heart and genuine connection towards the characters but funny too. I suppose they’d been called comedic dramas (not sit com).

WonderingWanda · 30/04/2024 23:25

I player- The Handmaid's Tale if you've not watched it already.
Prime - The Fall and The woman in the window are both good.

Can't find Handmaid's tale on the BBC iplayer. It was on Channel 4, now unavailable.

OhCobblers · 01/05/2024 10:22

I don't know why but this thread has made me think of Murder One which was on years ago! Well over 20 years but I loved it! I've just looked for it and It's on Amazon and Apple!

Fellow West Wing lover here.

If anyone ever wants a series recommendation this is what I always suggest.

Eight fabulous seasons and a PROPER ending.

Phenomenal tv series!!

QuickDraining · 01/05/2024 10:24

Annoyingly there's just too much crime drama. Channel 4 has lots of World Drama, but it is dominated by that genre. However there is the delightful Seaside Hotel. I like Sci-fi, but don't often find anything I like. I thought the Expanse and Dark were both dreadful. Will give High Castle a watch.

Mad Men is hands down my favourite long runner.

OhCobblers · 01/05/2024 10:24

@QuickDraining handmaids Tale is on Amazon Prime

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 01/05/2024 10:25

desperatedaysareover · 30/04/2024 21:48

I hate police procedurals but there has never been a better series than The Wire. I also don’t like sci-fi but Raised by Wolves is worth a watch.

So do l.

That leaves very little to watch!
